The Wall Street investment bank polled its analysts about the probability of M & A activity of the companies under its research coverage. Analysts were tasked with assigning a "1" ranking to those possible targets if the probability was 30%-50% of M & A activity in the next 12 months. In a tight credit environment and amid concern about a looming recession, M & A activity saw a sluggish first half of the year. The market is expected to open up as interest rates stop rising, and the stocks on Goldman's list could have the potential to be taken over once credit becomes more available. Health care stocks Maravai LifeSciences , Quanterix Corp ., Enhabit also have a relatively high likelihood of being M & A targets in the next 12 months, according to Goldman analysts.

Rebalance your portfolio Tech's remarkable bounce in 2023 could result in a significant portfolio tilt toward that sector — and an overconcentration that could hurt in the event there's a downturn. That means it's time to trim down a few of those oversized positions and make sure your asset allocation is properly reflecting your goals. Check in with cash Cash is another asset that requires your attention, especially in an era when investors have a host of options of where keep those funds. Cash you don't need for many years can go right back into your stock portfolio so you can keep ahead of inflation, Pearce said. "Make sure you have an appropriate amount of cash, and make sure you're not sitting on an enormous pile of cash that's doing nothing," he added.

NEW YORK, June 12 (Reuters) - A steadily rising U.S. stock market appears to be drawing investors off the sideline, one measure of market positioning showed. Positioning among discretionary investors - a cohort that includes everyone from portfolio managers to retail investors - broke out of its one-year underweight range and went above neutral for the first time since February, data from Deutsche Bank showed Friday. The shift comes after months during which discretionary investors sat on the sidelines while systematic investors - funds that take a repeatable data-driven approach and rely on computers to identify investment opportunities - have been steady buyers, according to Deutsche Bank. The S&P 500 index extended its gain last week to 20% from its October lows - one definition of a bull market. "A lot of it has to do simply with stocks moving up ... buyers attract more buyers," said Tim Ghriskey, senior portfolio strategist at Ingalls & Snyder.

ET (1900 GMT), to discuss the debt ceiling bill. U.S. 10-year Treasury yields fell about 10 basis points (bps) to 3.72%, while thirty-year yields fell 8 basis points to 3.90%. "What is currently happening since yesterday shows where the debt ceiling premium was actually priced: mostly in bonds," said Ielpo. The cost of insuring exposure to a U.S. debt default meanwhile fell. "I wouldn’t blame the Treasury rally on the debt ceiling deal necessarily... the additional T-bill issuance, quantitative tightening, and difficult bank funding conditions now conspire to less favourable financing conditions to the economy," said Bouvet.

David Einhorn joined other big investors in shares in several regional bank stocks last quarter in a bet that the financial institutions would survive the industry crisis that felled Silicon Valley and First Republic banks. That's the bank whose subsidiary, Flagstar, acquired Signature Bank assets after that bank was shuttered. Einhorn's additions come amid a broad selloff of regional bank stocks on concern more institutions could fail as depositors withdrew assets and the value of banks' bond holdings narrowed. "Big Short" investor Michael Burry also bought regional bank stocks last quarter. Outside of the bank stocks, Einhorn notably increased exposure to Concentrix , Gulfport Energy and Tenet Healthcare .

Oil prices are on a tear to start the new quarter, and if history is any guide, some stocks are better positioned to benefit from rising prices. The recent surge comes after oil prices tumbled last month to their lowest since December 2021 as Silicon Valley Bank's collapse rattled traders and spurred fears that a banking crisis could dent global economic growth. With oil prices at highs, CNBC Pro screened for the S & P 500 that consistently win during these times. Here are the names that made the list: Given their close correlation to oil prices, it's no surprise that energy stocks topped the list. While energy stocks, on average, benefit most when oil prices rise, other sectors also prosper.
