Jeremy Renner’s Avengers character, Hawkeye, now has his own Disney+ series. Jeremy Renner suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries in a snowplow accident in Reno, Nev., on Sunday, a representative for the actor said, and remains in critical but stable condition after undergoing surgery. A publicist for Mr. Renner said that the 51-year-old “Avengers” star is in an intensive-care unit following surgery on Monday.
Dr. S. Robert Rozbruch has led limb-lengthening and reconstruction surgery for more than 20 years. Rozbruch performs 350 to 400 limb-lengthening surgeries and deformity corrections a year. I also loved the TV show "M*A*S*H." The character Hawkeye Pierce, who's a surgeon, was like a mentor to me. I really like helping these kinds of patients and feeling their appreciation for something special that not every orthopedic surgeon can do. Cosmetic limb-lengthening surgeries are a one-offI do limb-lengthening reconstruction, not that bullshit cosmetic limb-lengthening that was discussed in GQ.
“Have you heard of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome?” the podiatrist asked me. There are 13 types of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), according to research and advocacy organization The Ehlers-Danlos Society. Drag queen Yvie Oddly, who has hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, crab walks down the pink carpet at RuPaul's DragCon LA in 2019. Bluestein says that for many years it was thought that one in 5,000 people had Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. But despite her career choice, Bluestein only received her hEDS diagnosis when she was 47 – more than 30 years later.

Sprains, strains, dislocations and fractures were common but also concussions and other head injuries. In fact, head injuries make up 20% of the roughly 600,000 ski- and snowboarding-related injuries that occur annually across North America, according to a study published in The Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery. “Certainly, we worry the most about head injuries,” said Dr. Brian Cole, an orthopedic surgeon at Chicago’s Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush. “You’re less likely to have a catastrophic ligament tear or fracture this way.”Common injuries by age and sexSome winter sports injuries are more common in people of a certain sex or age. Cole sees a lot of sledding injuries in his younger patients, snowmobiling injuries in middle-aged men and downhill skiing injuries in women, especially torn ACLs in the knee.
CNN —A common treatment for some arthritis pain might actually be making the condition worse, according to two new studies. Some of those patients didn’t receive any treatment and others got corticosteroid or hyaluronic acid injections, according to the studies. The takeaway from the studies is that corticosteroids should be administered with caution for osteoarthritis pain. “Perhaps hyaluronic acid injections need to be studied for pain management more thoroughly,” he said. And some people may not see significant benefit from either steroid or hyaluronic acid injections, Kim added.

CNN —The head doctor at Spanish football club Atlético Madrid has been called upon by the Vatican to treat Pope Francis’ knee injury. José María Villalón, a specialist in orthopedic surgery and traumatology, told Spanish radio station COPE that he was part of a group of specialists who traveled to treat Pope Francis. In an interview with Reuters in July, Pope Francis spoke about the injury for the first time, saying he had suffered “a small fracture” in the knee when he took a misstep while a ligament was inflamed. Villalón told COPE that Pope Francis is suffering from an “arthritic process which is affecting various joints.”He continued: “Sometimes, it starts in a joint with arthritis and other joints worsen because they carry more load than normal. CNN has reached out to the Vatican and Atlético for comment.
Patrick Pleul/Getty Images; Vicky Leta/InsiderLate Thursday, Elon Musk began his much-anticipated mass layoffs at Twitter. The layoffs are part of a new culture that Musk has unleashed at the company. But now, this person said, the company's new workaholic culture is "psychologically unsafe" and has "Elon's stamp all over it." How Gen Z is shaping the workplace. They're happier, they have a lot more confidence, and they feel like they're able to conquer a lot more than before."
The only field in medicine that uses all of these tools is orthopedic surgery, so it seemed like the right fit. I specialized in limb-lengthening surgery specifically because I wanted to do something that was different from everybody else. People that undergo limb-lengthening surgery are from all walks of life, and many used COVID lockdowns to recover post-surgery. I would say 80% to 85% of my cosmetic limb-lengthening patients are men and 15% to 20% are women. Even though I've done limb-lengthening surgeries hundreds of times, I still get a little nervous.

CNN —Kris Jenner had to undergo hip replacement surgery on Thursday’s episode of “The Kardashians.”The 66-year-old visited an orthopedic surgeon who told her the diagnosis after Jenner was unable to sleep or walk properly. I’m here to see the doctor because I have this excruciating hip pain,” Jenner said. “Hearing the doctor say that I need a hip replacement is very scary for me,” she said. “It reminds me of somebody older than I feel on the inside and somebody who is going to have challenges for the rest of her life. Despite that, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback led the league in regular season passing yards, completions and touchdown passes. And he was the starting quarterback in four of the past six Super Bowls, bagging three Lombardi Trophies in that span. At the game Brady attended, Ronaldo became the highest scorer in FIFA history after netting his 807th career goal. Not everyone is brimming with the baseline talents of James or Brady or has the discipline or resources to stick with such regimens. With time, this may radically alter how athletes at all levels are nurtured, and even how nonathletes fend off the crippling effects of age.
This article is part of Overlooked, a series of obituaries about remarkable people whose deaths, beginning in 1851, went unreported in The Times. Anyone who passed through downtown Chicago in the 1970s or ’80s might have encountered a weathered blond woman wearing a rabbit fur coat and men’s orthopedic slip-ons as she hawked her art on Michigan Avenue. If you looked like a prospective buyer, she would slowly, seductively, unfurl her latest canvas as you approached. Frenchy,” a racy hit from World War I, was her favorite. The eccentric “bag lady,” as she was often called, was Lee Godie, one of the city’s most iconoclastic artists.

Bill Walton’s Long, Strange Tale of N.B.A. Survival

Bill Walton arrived at the San Diego Natural History Museum carrying a large black chair. It’s so large that it made even Walton, one of basketball’s dominating giants, look small. We were standing inside the building, near the skeleton of a dinosaur (Allosaurus fragilis, the sign said), watching him approach. I had come to San Diego to speak with Walton about his life: the magic rainbows interweaving over the bottomless, flaming abyss. It suggests an existence largely shaped by dark matter — all the things that didn’t happen, that never coalesced, that went missing.
