A Florida jury awarded $800,000 in damages to a 7-year-old girl on Wednesday for the suffering and mental anguish caused when a Chicken McNugget fell on her thigh, causing a second-degree burn. The jury in Broward County awarded the girl, Olivia Caraballo, the damages for pain, suffering and other forms of mental anguish — $400,000 for the pain she endured and an additional $400,000 for any future suffering resulting from the injury, according to court documents. Lawyers for the family had asked for $15 million. The suit was brought in state court by Olivia’s parents, Philana Holmes and Humberto Caraballo Estevez, against McDonald’s and Upchurch Foods, the franchise operator in Tamarac, Fla. In May, a separate jury determined that the two companies were liable for failing to provide reasonable instructions or warnings — on the packaging, for example — about the risks of injuries that could result from a Chicken McNuggets meal, which comes with pieces of white chicken meat.

AUCKLAND, July 19 (Reuters) - Excitement was building across Auckland as the city prepared to kick off the Women's World Cup on Wednesday, the culmination of years of effort to bring the largest ever standalone women's sporting event to its shores. Auckland will host nine matches at Eden Park across the tournament, including one semi-final. While Australia's Matildas are genuine title contenders, the Football Ferns have never won a match at a Women's World Cup. With digital billboards popping up around Auckland featuring the women's home team, Chance said she is already seeing signs of change. The ninth Women's World Cup runs until Aug. 20 when the final takes place in Sydney.

The Matildas called out gender disparity in World Cup prize money in a video message released on Monday, ensuring the topic will stay front-and-centre days before the tournament kicks off on their home turf and in New Zealand. The team went on strike in 2015 to demand better pay and have received the same minimum percentage of prize money for tournaments as their male counterparts since 2019. The statement comes amid upheaval across women's soccer, with players demanding better pay and playing conditions across the globe. The governing body previously said it aimed for prize money parity by the next World Cups in 2026 and 2027. 5, home to the biggest pool yet, being a pool owner felt less like a fantasy and more like a nonnegotiable. After all, if we had been willing to spend more on a house that came with a pool, why not just buy a pool? First of all, apparently, the average in-ground pool costs a lot more than $30,000. I found out that while the unusual shape of our yard meant we weren't getting the pool I'd imagined, this limitation could actually solve all of our problems. This left us with a fully buried, semi-in-ground (an in-ground pool without a deep end) as our only option.

Chalamet steps into shoes previously filled by Gene Wilder in 1971 and Johnny Depp in 2005. Speaking in London ahead of the teaser trailer release, King promised an all singing, all dancing Chalamet and a film that “answers all the questions you never had” about Wonka. The director shared that he’d accessed Dahl’s personal archives and read early drafts of the novel, gleaning ideas from there. CNN and Warner Bros. Pictures are units of Warner Bros.

June 22 (Reuters) - Midfielder Annalie Longo is in a race to recover from a serious knee injury and make New Zealand's Women's World Cup squad, but will gladly endure pain to play in front of home fans if selectors back her. "I think just the nature of the time-frame there is going to be a bit of uncomfortable pain in the knee but it's all to play at a home World Cup. MELBOURNE, April 12 (Reuters) - Women's World Cup co-hosts New Zealand suffered another blow to their confidence in the leadup to the tournament on Tuesday with a 3-0 defeat to Nigeria in a friendly and the loss of veteran midfielder Betsy Hassett to a suspected broken rib. The defeat in Antalya, Turkey extended the Football Ferns' winless run to 10 matches and heaps further pressure on embattled coach Jitka Klimková. Hassett's injury added salt to 25th-ranked New Zealand's wounds, the midfielder forced from the field after 70 minutes after clashing with Oparanozie. New Zealand, who co-host the Women's World Cup with Australia in July and August, have not won since handing the Philippines a 2-1 defeat in September. They meet Norway, Philippines and Switzerland in Group A at the World Cup.

The bill would restrict funding and protections for healthcare providers that offer gender-affirming care to trans patients. "I thought the worst they would do is restrict gender-affirming care," Amanda said. This would prohibit universities or health insurance plans for government workers from using public funds to provide gender-affirming care. In February, the Board of Medicine expanded on the restrictions and banned gender-affirming care for minors, including in clinical trials. In a previous story about SB 254, representatives for DeSantis declined to comment on SB 254 until it makes its way to the Governor's desk.
