CNN —Tropical Storm Sara is here and closing in on Central America where it will unleash disastrous flooding rain in the region. The storm will bring “life-threatening” flooding rainfall up to 30 inches to Honduras and double-digit rainfall totals to other parts of Central America, the NHC warned. This scenario would bring strong winds and torrential rain to Central America, but could keep the storm away from the US entirely or have it approach as a very weak storm. It would still unleash life-threatening flooding rainfall in Central America and head for dangerous strike on Belize and Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. This would bring more substantial impacts to Central America, the Yucatán and Belize and a much more troubling forecast for the US.

Several other studies have examined drinking habits among people taking GLP-1 drugs who do not have alcohol use disorder. Around 75,000 people in the study used some type of medication to treat alcohol use disorder. CNN —The United Nations has accused Israel of “severe violations” of a 50-year-old agreement with Syria, saying it has engaged in “engineering groundwork activities” that encroach on a key buffer zone in the Golan Heights. The Israeli military said the strikes were part of a larger effort to target the capabilities of a Hezbollah unit responsible for weapons smuggling. Saban said that Hezbollah is unlikely to try and trigger an Israeli military offensive from the Golan, however. In July, the IDF said it struck Syrian military infrastructure in retaliation for alleged breaches. “The IDF holds the Syrian military responsible for all activities occurring within its territory and will not allow any attempts to violate Israeli sovereignty,” the Israeli military said.

Elon Musk says a leaderboard of "dumb" government spending will expose waste — and he wants your two cents. The Tesla CEO said this week that he planned to post a public "leaderboard for the most insanely dumb spending of your tax dollars." While the effectiveness of Musk's leaderboard remains to be seen, experts told Business Insider it showed his marketing savvy — even if it could also encourage "gotcha" moments that need more context. Especially in a dry realm such as government spending, Musk's plans are bound to grab eyeballs — and perhaps make people feel more invested in the outcome. She said there was some precedent for Musk's leaderboard, noting that former Sen. William Proxmire, a Democrat from Wisconsin, issued the "Golden Fleece Award" for wasteful spending throughout the 1970s and '80s via monthly press releases.

What issue did your vote come down to in the end? Starting in mid-August, we spoke regularly to 13 young voters who were torn about their choice in the presidential election, to track how and why their opinions were evolving. “I can’t believe it, but I did end up voting for Donald Trump,” said Abigail, a 23-year-old Virginian who backed Mr. Biden last time. The Summary An advanced diagnostic test uses genetic sequencing to detect a range of pathogens — viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites — that might be causing an illness. A cutting-edge diagnostic test is helping some doctors find diagnoses for medical mysteries by analyzing DNA and RNA to detect a broad swath of viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites, according to a pair of studies published Tuesday. Traditional diagnostic tests are generally designed to measure specific substances such as proteins, hormones or trace amounts of genetic material. The technology is not a replacement for existing tests used to diagnose common illnesses — like those for Covid or strep throat — since it’s slower to deliver results and more expensive. The test also misses some cases, she added, so it should be used alongside other diagnostic tests in hospitals.
