Former British nurse and convicted child serial killer Lucy Letby on Thursday lost an attempt to appeal against her conviction for trying to murder a newborn baby, amid questions over the fairness of her trials. Judge William Davis refused Letby’s application for leave to appeal against the conviction from her retrial. Letby attended the hearing by videolink from prison and sat impassively as the judge stated the court’s reasons for refusing her application. She can now only challenge those convictions if the Criminal Cases Review Commission refer those cases back to the Court of Appeal. Since her trials, Letby’s conviction has come under a spotlight, following criticism by some experts of medical and statistical evidence presented by the prosecution.

Analyst Nick Lai, who has an overweight rating on the Chinese electric vehicle maker, added Xpeng to the Wall Street bank's positive catalyst watch list in a 17-page report out Sunday. This comes amid JPMorgan's forecast that EREVs and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles combined will make up about 60% of the new energy vehicle market by 2030 – almost double last year's figure. Another event that could drive the stock higher is Xpeng's third-quarter results next month, which Lai thinks will show expanded gross profit margins. Heading into 2025, Xpeng should see more volume growth, JPMorgan said, with the bank forecasting 72% volume growth in 2025. As a result, Xpeng should see positive free cash flow next year and a profit in 2026, according to Lai.

At least four large YouTube channels devoted to firearms have announced they’re quitting the platform and moving to rival services with looser rules. YouTube, which is owned by Google, has for years imposed rules on gun videos. YouTube says gun videos are only one part of its enormous app. Responsible firearms content is just one part of this vibrant mix of communities,” the company said in a statement. That’s because cocoa prices have more than doubled since the start of the year and have remained at record highs, according to Wells Fargo data shared with CNN. The surging prices have caused grief for confectioners during prime chocolate sales seasons like Valentine’s Day and Easter. The company’s president, Michele Buck, said in a call in August with analysts that cocoa prices are “not sustainable,” and pointed toward higher prices. Though hope is on the horizon, experts project cocoa prices will remain high until at least September 2025. Seven years ago, the bodies of two teenage girls were discovered near a hiking trail outside the small Indiana town of Delphi. Allen worked at a CVS in Delphi and had processed photos for Libby’s family without charging them, her grandparents have said. Investigators found the images on Libby’s cellphone and released them days after the girls' bodies were discovered in a bid to identify a possible suspect. Allen, who was interviewed by authorities in 2017 and admitted being at the trail the day the teens vanished, was arrested in 2022. In a request for a search warrant in 2017, an FBI agent said the girls' bodies appeared to have been moved and staged.
