Lindell insulted him, his lawyers, the judge, and took a break to go on Steve Bannon's podcast. When he stood up to take a call in the middle of questioning, Coomer's lawyers called it a day. In an interview with Insider on Friday, Lindell called Coomer's lawyers "creepy" and "evil." He said he had to take a personal "emergency call" before the deposition ended, and that Coomer's lawyers were aware it was coming. During the depositions, Lindell fiercely guarded his pillow company's brand and bristled at any suggestion that one of its latest products, the MyPillow 2.0, could be subpar.

Another has an ally in Congress vowing to support his legal defense. On Thursday, Trump’s legal team formally asked a judge to sever his case from his co-defendants who want a speedy trial, according to court filings. The prospect of a costly legal defense has prompted some defendants to find other ways to raise money. Paying the legal bills of his co-defendants in Georgia could help the former president keep them all unified as they fight the Fulton County charges. None of the defendants has pleaded guilty, but it is common for criminal defendants facing mounting legal bills to end their cases without the time-consuming costs of a trial.

The atmospherics are distractingFormer President Donald Trump’s stone-faced mug shot and the televised motorcade of his trip to court painted his arrest Thursday at the Fulton County jail in Atlanta with a reality TV theatricality. Trump’s control of the party he remade around himself continues to hold. But ultimately, just as he was forced to submit to a mug shot, Trump will have to submit to the fact that juries of his peers, American citizens, will decide these trials of the century. It’s far from a mainstream view, and Trump’s multiple arrests have so far yielded little in the way of mass protest. He could win acquittal in any or all four of the trials in which he’s a defendant.

Why Republicans say the U.S. is in danger of failingRepublican fatalists, much like Republican voters overall, overwhelmingly support Donald J. Trump. This group is largely older — two-thirds of Republicans over 65 say the country is on the verge of failure — and less educated. They are also more likely than Republican voters overall to get their news from non-Fox conservative media sources like Newsmax or The Epoch Times. Many of these gloomy Republican see the Biden administration’s policies as pushing the country to the verge of collapse. “The first day Biden became president he ripped up everything good that happened with Trump; he opened the border — let everyone and anyone in.

An ex-Giuliani staffer told Politico that Fani Willis will be a "superstar" if she convicts Trump. Giuliani during an appearance on Newsmax earlier this week firmly rejected Willis' use of RICO statutes in the Georgia case. Since November 2020, Trump has cast doubt on now-President Joe Biden's 2020 victory in Georgia, despite no evidence of voting irregularities and vote counts affirming the final results. After decades of GOP dominance on the presidential level, Georgia backed Biden by roughly 12,000 votes out of 5 million ballots cast. Shortly after the 2020 election, Trump pushed Gov.

But if the Republican Party is no longer in Reagan’s image, it’s not necessarily a populist-conservative MAGA monolith, either. But if the Republican Party isn’t quite a MAGA monolith, what is it? The groups were defined by how Republican-leaning voters felt on the issues — not how they felt about Mr. Trump. In fact, Mr. Trump leads Mr. DeSantis among every group of Republican voters identified in the analysis. They’re the smallest group of Republicans today, but this group of relatively moderate but anti-woke voters might play an important role in the Republican Party in the years ahead.

Opinion | Are the Elite Anti-Trumpers the ‘Bad Guys’?
  + stars: | 2023-08-12 | by ( ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
To the Editor:Re “What if We’re the Bad Guys Here?,” by David Brooks (column, Aug. 4):I am sick and tired of people like Mr. Brooks telling me that I am the problem or the “bad guy” because I am educated (and no, I was not educated at an Ivy League school, and neither of my parents finished high school) to justify the fact that 35 percent of the population are fervent supporters of Donald Trump, no matter what he says or does. Moreover, Mr. Trump is also part of the elite, but his supporters simply ignore this. This is not because he identifies with them in any way (as a golden-haired billionaire living in a mansion), but because Fox, Newsmax, and other right-wing TV and radio media outlets, right-wing militias and Trump puppet politicians in Congress essentially brainwashed them with their daily dose of propaganda about how the “left wing socialists and communists,” “elites,” the “woke,” etc., are all conspiring to take their country and only Donald Trump can stop them. In my opinion, this is the biggest problem, Mr. Brooks, not educated Americans who as you correctly state are “are earnest, kind and public spirited.”So, let’s not beat ourselves up because the other side has been completely brainwashed, does not accept facts, scientific and otherwise, is obsessed with conspiracies and lives in a right-wing echo chamber.

Kemp on Thursday chided former President Trump over his refusal to sign a GOP loyalty pledge. By signing the pledge, a candidate commits to backing the eventual Republican presidential nominee. During a Newsmax interview earlier this week, Trump scoffed at the GOP debate requirement. Brian Kemp has a stern but simple message for former President Donald Trump: Sign the Republican presidential loyalty pledge. So the former president remains in a precarious political situation in the presidential swing state ahead of 2024.

“We’ve been very vocal with them.”In the Newsmax interview, Mr. Trump said, “I can name three or four people that I wouldn’t support for president,” without naming them. “So right there, there’s a problem right there.”Mr. Trump also said in the interview that he wasn’t convinced it was worth it for him to debate given how far ahead he is in the primary. A recent New York Times/Siena College poll showed him leading the field by an enormous margin, more than 35 percentage points ahead of his nearest competitor, Gov. Some other Republicans criticized Mr. Trump on Thursday for his refusal to commit to supporting a nominee other than himself. Mr. Trump’s vacillation over the pledge is not new; he objected to signing the same loyalty pledge during his first campaign eight years ago.

Donald Trump’s dangerous lies about the 2020 election, which saturated right-wing media after the presidential contest and led to the January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol, have finally put the disgraced former president in serious legal jeopardy. Fox News, Newsmax, and One America News have already been hurled into legal peril for their roles in disseminating Trump’s election lies to the masses. Each of them have faced colossal lawsuits from Smartmatic and Dominion Voting Systems, two voting technology companies at the center of Trump’s lies. In the indictment handed down Tuesday, special counsel Jack Smith alleged Trump knew the lies that he was pushing about the election were false. Now, Trump will be forced to step into the same dangerous arena as his media allies.

Marjorie Taylor Greene held up large nude photos of Hunter Biden during a House Committee meeting. Greene used a House Oversight Committee hearing on Wednesday to hold up photos that purportedly showed Hunter Biden having sex with prostitutes. Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, and the Department of Justice all deny that the investigation has been too lenient. Hunter Biden has become a magnet for conspiracy theories, and Republicans, including Greene, have made unsubstantiated claims about Hunter Biden beyond what the DOJ has investigated. Greene, in the committee hearing, alleged that Hunter Biden used his company to pay prostitutes and then wrote it off as a business expense.

CNN —Trump allies Michael Flynn and Steve Bannon have been subpoenaed by Smartmatic as part of the voting technology company’s massive defamation lawsuits against Fox News and Newsmax over their promotion of 2020 election lies. Court filings made public last week in New York and Delaware indicate that Flynn and Bannon were hit with subpoenas, demanding that they sit for depositions and answer questions under oath. Fox News and Newsmax deny wrongdoing and are fighting the lawsuits. Both Flynn and Bannon played a key role in Trump’s attempts to overturn his 2020 election defeat. Bannon was federally indicted in a fraud scheme in 2020, through Trump pardoned him before trial.

Which raises the question: Who would Trump bring back into his orbit should there be a second Trump term? Flynn was handsomely repaid by Trump when he won the 2016 presidential election, gaining the critical position of national security adviser. That is, they agree or strongly agree with statements such as “the federal government should declare the US a ‘Christian nation….’”The “ReAwaken America Tour”The ReAwaken America crowd looks to be a highly energized vanguard within this population. For an Audible podcast that we produced about Flynn and his role in ReAwaken America, Clark told us he considers Flynn “to be kind of like a father figure to [him],” and he hopes that Flynn will be Trump’s vice-presidential candidate. On tour, Flynn is dubbed, without irony, “America’s general,” and, at the event we attended in May, America’s general was the unquestionable star of the show.

CNN —The post-Chris Licht era at CNN is taking shape. Viewers saw the most visible change on Monday when CNN updated the network’s on-screen banners that Licht had implemented in the final days before his departure. While the former network chief sought to tone down the volume, the emerging iteration of CNN is reporting the news in a bolder, unbridled way. To be clear, CNN has not reverted entirely back to the style of journalism that it practiced under former network chief Jeff Zucker. And the new programs that Licht introduced into the lineup, such as “CNN News Central,” remain in place, for now.
