These Women Say YesFashionClothsurgeon, the first streetwear atelier to open on London’s Savile Row, is proving that bespoke isn’t just for suits. At New York Fashion Week, veteran designer Vivienne Tam showcased a metaverse-themed collection featuring various NFT characters. Kerry Chrapliwy — CEO of a marketing agency representing Gemini, a cryptocurrency exchange platform that co-sponsored the show — said web3 world has a reputation for being geeky, insular, and male, which needs to change. A divide became clear, though, despite the overlap between the fashion world and the NFT world — like being environmentally disastrous and needing disposable income to participate — their communities do not easily merge, even in a space dedicated to facilitating just that. They didn't seem to know about the NFT element of Tam's collection, didn't care, or both. At New York Fashion Week, blockchain gaming company ChainGuardians debuted its first line of 'phygital' clothing. Web3 enthusiasts and 'Love Island' stars Ekin Su Cülcüloğlu and Davide Sanclimenti attended the event. The unlikely medley of people was brought together earlier this week for a New York Fashion Week runway show that blended real-life fashion with Web 3 couture. "When you're wearing your t-shirt, your avatar in the metaverse will be wearing the same thing," Liu said. "Those are opportunities we can get women into the space, and make it easy to understand — starting with fashion."
Elena Maravelias is a celebrity hairstylist who got her start cutting a singer's hair at a concert. She toured with the Warped Tour, got a job at a salon in NYC, and now has a celebrity client list. She says when working with celebrities, don't put them on a pedestal or ask personal questions. I didn't have the goal to become a bicoastal celebrity hairstylist — it just sort of happened. You never know what you're going to encounter on set, which is the exciting part, but being on set for up to 14 hours at a time for weeks can be a lot.
