Chinese smartphone company Honor on Wednesday revealed new AI features. U.S. sanctions cut Huawei off from Google, prompting the Chinese company to launch its own operating system, HarmonyOS, in 2019. Telecommunications giant Huawei on Tuesday launched an upgrade to its HarmonyOS system that eliminated reliance on the Google-created Android operating system. The new AI features are slated for release on Honor's forthcoming Magic 7 smartphone, due for launch on Oct. 30. Chinese home appliance and smartphone company Xiaomi will also launch a new phone this month that uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon Elite 8 chip.

Target is lowering prices on more than 2,000 items across an array of categories in a bid to offer more discounts to cash-strapped customers as the holiday season approaches. Both Target and Walmart have also sought to lean in to more store-brand offerings as a means of offering discounts. The most recent official retail sales data showed ongoing strength in consumer spending, while the pace of 12-month inflation continues to approach the Federal Reserve's official 2% target. However, research from a new Federal Reserve paper suggests lower-income households continue to struggle financially, something reflected in a lower pace of retail sales growth for that cohort. Target recently announced it was hiring 100,000 seasonal workers for the holidays — in line with the previous three years.

"You'll have tax efficiency that a standard mutual fund is not going to be able to achieve, hands down," he said. The same concept applies within a mutual fund: Mutual fund managers generate capital gains when they sell holdings within the fund. Large-cap and small-cap "core" stocks also "benefit considerably," with about 85% to 90% of their returns coming from capital gains, Armour said. However, there are instances in which passively managed funds can trade often, too, such as with so-called strategic beta funds, Armour said.

New York CNN —Target is slashing prices on more than 2,000 items, marking the second time this year that the retailer cut customer costs as it attempts to attract inflation-weary shoppers ahead of the holiday shopping season. Some prices have dropped effective immediately on a number of items, including home goods, beauty products, food, beverages and toys. In a press release, Target said it “routinely adjusts its prices to remain competitive in markets across the country” and the discounting will continue through December. In May, Target announced it was going to slash prices on 5,000 items but ended up surpassing that number, cutting prices on 8,000 products. However, there’s some good news for stores: Spending at US retailers climbed 0.4% in September from the prior month, according to government data released last week.

In fact, Madras said, adverse effects are such a concern that researchers in psychedelic clinical trials often actively recruit people who have successfully taken psychedelics in the past. In a study using psilocybin for alcohol substance abuse, for example, some 95% of those involved correctly guessed whether they were taking psilocybin or the placebo.
