We’re looking back at the strongest, smartest opinion takes of the week from CNN and other outlets. In Kansas City, Andrew Lester, an 84-year-old White homeowner shot Ralph Yarl, a Black teenager who rang his doorbell. And, “with Trump as the front-runner for the 2024 Republican nomination, Fox has resumed coverage of him which often veers into the free-advertisement category. Neither Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who announced his candidacy last week, nor Marianne Williamson represents a serious threat, Axelrod noted. “The calendar reads 2023,” wrote the Republican former lieutenant governor of Georgia, Geoff Duncan, “but it feels like 2016 all over again.

Biden has also avoided the kind of gambits and defeats that might leave a large constituency ready to revolt. None of this eliminates the difficulty of imagining his campaign for four more years. But it’s outstripped by the difficulty of seeing how any serious and respectable force inside the Democratic Party could be organized to stop it. However, as the Trump era has taught us, the serious and the respectable aren’t the only forces in American politics; disreputability has potency as well. Right now there’s no clear opening for a major rival like Newsom to replace Biden as the Democratic nominee.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is challenging President Joe Biden for the 2024 Democratic nomination. The nephew of former President John F. Kennedy officially announced his long-shot bid to challenge President Joe Biden for the nomination at an event in Boston on Wednesday. Kerry Kennedy, one of his sisters, told Insider in a statement that she will not be supporting her brother's bid. I will be supporting President Joe Biden." Not only have family members long opposed his views on vaccines, three of his siblings are diplomats for the Biden administration.
CNN —President Joe Biden was the toast of Ireland last week, as he was treated to a hero’s welcome in a pageant-laden return to his ancestral home. Biden, who is expected to formalize his plans next week, has a significant body of achievements on which to run. So is the absence of a real primary challenge simply the luck of the Irish? Perhaps with that primary battle in mind, Biden has worked assiduously to court the progressive wing of the party, from which such Democratic primary challenges generally arise. Finally, there is former President Donald Trump, whose candidacy is a boost to Biden among Democrats.

CNN —Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the anti-vaccine activist and environmental lawyer, described himself as a truth-teller who will “end the division” as he launched his bid for the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination on Wednesday in Boston. Some Kennedy family members have denounced his views on vaccines. Kennedy lives in Los Angeles, but he chose Boston as a nod to his family’s deep political roots in the city, even though his father, Robert F. Kennedy, declared his presidential ambitions in the Senate Caucus Room on Capitol Hill in 1968, the same place his uncle, John F. Kennedy, launched his presidential campaign in 1960. “I’m a lifelong Democrat, but I will not be voting for Robert Kennedy Jr. because I cannot stomach the anti-vaccine thing,” said Tyson Humble of Portland, Oregon, who was visiting the John F. Bernie Sanders told Insider that she'll run a "strong campaign and raise very important issues." Sanders has said he supports Biden in 2024, but his praise for Williamson contrasts with other Democrats. Williamson — a self-help author, spiritual leader, and 2020 presidential candidate — is currently the only well-known Democrat to officially launch a presidential campaign. "I'm sure she's going to run a strong campaign and raise very important issues." Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, by contrast, was firm in her support for Biden when asked about Williamson's campaign.
Marianne Williamson’s longshot campaign in the 2024 Democratic presidential primary faces obstacles. WASHINGTON—Self-help author and activist Marianne Williamson launched her longshot 2024 Democratic presidential bid Saturday, joining a contest that is unlikely to include any serious challengers to President Biden. Ms. Williamson, who sought the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination before pulling out before the leadoff Iowa caucuses, faces steep obstacles in her race against Mr. Biden. The president has locked up broad support among party leaders and officials ahead of his expected re-election campaign later this spring, though polls have shown many Democratic voters are wary of him running again.
Williamson on Sunday told ABC that the DNC is "rigging" the primary system for President Joe Biden. Jonathan Karl asked Williamson on ABC "This Week" if she expected that Biden would debate her if the DNC held debates. Karl asked Williamson if she would still be competing in the New Hampshire primary election, which she said she would. Karl asked Williamson to clarify that she meant "rigging the system" in favor of Biden, to which she responded; "They even admit that, Jonathan." They know that the president did not do well in New Hampshire," Williamson said.

Biden, 80, is the oldest president in U.S. history and would be 86 at the end of a second term. Biden's political advisers say they aren't worried about the Democratic primary and say Biden is anxious to defeat Donald Trump again in the general election. Williamson insists her 2024 campaign is about far more than just making a statement. A Texas native who now lives in Beverly Hills, California, Williamson is the author of more than a dozen books. She ran an unsuccessful independent congressional campaign in California in 2014 and supported Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders' 2016 progressive challenge of eventual Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
WASHINGTON, March 3 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden's team is moving to tap top Democratic allies and even some people once seen as possible rivals as key representatives of his expected re-election bid. Biden's team is making other steps, too, including thinking through possible options for a campaign manager a host city for the 2024 party convention where Biden would be formally nominated. The campaign's strategy is expected to be set by the same inner circle that guided Biden's 2020 race against Republican former President Donald Trump, including his final 2020 campaign manager, Jen O'Malley Dillon. In the absence of a formal re-election announcement, the White House continues to book Biden in campaign-style appearances across the country. On Monday, Biden is expected to speak to the International Association of Fire Fighters, the first major labor group to endorse him ahead of the 2020 campaign.
A Republican governor hit back at Marjorie Taylor Greene's call for a "national divorce" in the US. Spencer Cox called Greene's rhetoric "destructive" and "evil." This isn't the first time Greene has called for the break up of the US. Utah's Republican governor called the rhetoric "destructive and wrong and — honestly — evil." On Monday, Marjorie Taylor Greene had suggested that there should be a "national divorce" – the separation of the US into red and blue states.
South Carolina will now kick things off for Democrats, with Michigan — and potentially Georgia — joining the early states in the biggest shakeup of the presidential primary in years, while Nevada will go second. "The Democratic Party looks like America," Harrison added, "And so does this proposal." Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart said the removal of Iowa will expose the party to charges that they have "turned their back on Iowa and rural America." New Hampshire Democrats have asked for more time to try to come up with a solution, but most Democrats say the writing on the wall and expect there will be no solution to the impasse. "Y'all, for far too long, our party's nominating calendar has not reflected this country looks like," said Georgia Rep. Nikema Williams, who is also the chairwoman of the state Democratic Party.
“Around the country, MAGA extremists are lining up to take on those bedrock freedoms,” Mr. Biden said, using Mr. Trump’s Make America Great Again slogan to describe the former president’s allies. While he had repeatedly and consistently said he intended to run, Mr. Biden stoked renewed speculation by delaying his kickoff for months. Mr. Biden tapped Julie Chávez Rodríguez, a senior White House adviser and granddaughter of the iconic labor leader Cesar Chávez, as his campaign manager. But the operation is expected to be overseen from the White House by top presidential aides. While polls show that most Democrats have favorable opinions about Mr. Biden, a majority of them would still rather he not run again.
