CNN —Bolivia has arrested more than a dozen high-ranking military and intelligence officials following a failed attempt to unseat the country’s president in a coup allegedly led by its former army chief. All three men are among 17 people arrested so far in connection with Wednesday’s events – most of them members of the military, the report says. San Salvador CNN —At least 30 people have died in the heavy rains pounding Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador this week, according to authorities in each country. In El Salvador, 19 deaths have been recorded due to the storms, the director of Civil Protection, Luis Alonso Amaya, told local media. Among the victims are two minors who died after a landslide buried their home in the Soyapango district, located about six miles from capital San Salvador. More than 2,500 people in El Salvador have been evacuated from their homes and have been placed in shelters. Storm Alberto, the first named tropical storm of the hurricane season, was located approximately 305 miles south-southeast of Brownsville, Texas and formed earlier today in the Southwestern Gulf of Mexico. The first named storm of the hurricane season made landfall in Mexico on Thursday, bringing heavy rain and flooding to the country's Gulf Coast and Texas. Tropical Storm Alberto is moving inland over Mexico with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, the National Hurricane Center said in an update at 7 a.m. local time. A Tropical Storm Warning that was in effect for the Texas coast from San Luis Pass southward to the mouth of the Rio Grande was lifted early Thursday. Alberto's center was forecast to move west into Mexico before weakening and most likely dissipating by Thursday night, the National Hurricane Center said.
