The lawsuit against the IRS is only the latest in a series of counterpunches by the president's son. Now, Hunter Biden could be heading to trial in the midst of his father’s reelection effort. Hunter Biden, according to his memoir, tumbled into drug addiction after the death of his older brother, Beau, in 2015. Earlier this year Hunter Biden hired high-profile attorney Abbe Lowell, a legal heavyweight known for also representing Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump. “And it is not even touching on the issue of whether people think that he is being prosecuted because he’s Hunter Biden," she said.

[1/4] Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman receives U.S. President Joe Biden at Al Salman Palace upon his arrival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, July 15, 2022. Biden would also score a foreign policy win as he seeks re-election in November 2024. The focus is on Biden’s fellow Democrats who have condemned Saudi Arabia over human rights but whose support would be needed if any agreement requires congressional approval. Though foreign policy rarely sways U.S. elections, Biden, facing a re-election fight against Republican former president Donald Trump, may be thinking of his legacy. Murphy, a Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said he favors Israeli-Saudi normalization and is open to reviewing any broader agreement but would not be easily convinced.

CNN —The initiation of an impeachment investigation against a president ought to be an earthshaking moment in the nation’s history. Republicans could use an impeachment investigation of the president to fuel public suspicion over Hunter Biden’s cascading controversies. But the coming impeachment investigation represents a gamble for Republicans since it could cause a backlash in moderate districts that their majority depends on. Ian Sams, a White House spokesman for oversight and investigations, blasted the impeachment investigation as “extreme politics at its worst.”But the strain of an impeachment inquiry is hardly the way the White House would have preferred to prepare for election year. If the impeachment investigation does uncover more direct involvement of Joe Biden, condemnations of McCarthy’s action may have been premature.

But evidence that the president was himself involved in Hunter’s schemes or shared in any of the profits is thus far lacking, as is any evidence that the president violated the law. There is no evidence remotely comparable to the evidence that spurred inquiries against Clinton or Trump. They’d note that Joe Biden falsely denied that Hunter had business dealings in China. The deep concern that Joe Biden might have profited from his position sounds almost comical after the G.O.P. has spent years trying to divert Americans’ attention from the blatant way that the Trump administration steered federal dollars into Trump properties during his presidency.

TORONTO (AP) — Bayard Rustin, the civil rights activist and primary architect of the 1963 March on Washington, who often worked tirelessly out of the limelight, takes center stage in the new Netflix drama “Rustin." “Rustin,” directed by veteran theater and film director George C. Wolfe, is the first narrative feature from Higher Ground, Barack and Michelle Obama's production company. Led by a powerhouse performance by Domingo that's already being called a likely Academy Award nomination for best actor, “Rustin” aims to celebrate a pivotal but undersung civil rights hero. In 1953, Rustin spent 50 days in jail and was registered as a sex offender — a conviction that was posthumously pardoned in 2020 by California Gov. It’s like: ‘I’m directing ‘Angels in the America’ a seven-hour play, get out of my way.’ ‘I’m doing a movie about Bayard Rustin.

George C. Wolfe can pinpoint the exact moment that sparked his career as a director and dramatist. “We were supposed to sing this song,” recalls Wolfe, 68. “Here was this monumental human being who changed history, and then history forgot him,” says Wolfe, himself a gay man, who has lived in New York City since 1979. Though contemporaries in adjacent disciplines, Wolfe and Weems had never had a real conversation before meeting on a steamy July day in a downtown Manhattan studio. Here, the two discuss their childhoods, art as activism and what they feel is still left to accomplish.

CNN —Former White House trade adviser Peter Navarro goes on trial Tuesday as the second ex-aide to former President Donald Trump to be prosecuted for criminal contempt of Congress. With the judge finding that Trump did not make a formal invocation of privilege, Navarro will be severely limited in the defenses he can put in front of the jury. It declined to prosecute former Trump White House officials Mark Meadows and Dan Scavino, who were also subpoenaed by the committee and referred by the House to the Justice Department for contempt. Navarro told reporters outside the courthouse last week that his legal bills, including appeals of the case, would exceed $1 million. This is the same suit I wore in 2017 going into the White House,” he said.

That’s the median weight loss experienced by people who take Wegovy, a drug from Novo Nordisk. Many patients started by taking Ozempic, a diabetes drug also by Novo Nordisk that led to weight loss as a side effect. Mounjaro, made by Eli Lilly and approved for treating diabetes, is expected to be approved soon for obesity. While price and insurance coverage pose problems for patients, health economists expect prices to come down as more drugs are approved and companies face competition. Medicare is forbidden by law to pay for weight-loss drugs, although there is an intense lobbying effort to change that.

Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner distanced themselves from her family after Donald Trump left office. Their reappearance in the Trump orbit comes as Donald Trump's 2024 campaign poll numbers are up. Days later, she skipped her father's 2024 presidential campaign announcement and in April dumped the lawyers representing her and her brothers in a fraud lawsuit brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James. "If he's president again, Jared needs to protect his turf, especially in the Middle East." Lawyers for Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner and representatives for the Trump 2024 presidential campaign did not immediately respond to Insider's requests for comment.

Charles Kushner donated $1 million to Trump's super PAC. Kushner, who Trump pardoned, was one of the largest individual contributors to the super PAC. Trump and his allies have burned cash at an alarming rate, making the donation even more important. Christie has long thought that putting Jared Kushner's father in prison led to him being blocked within Trump's orbit. Charles Kushner's donation was one of the largest to the pro-Trump "Make America Great Again Inc" super PAC has received from an individual contributor through the end of June.

The dwindling cash reserves in Mr. Trump’s PAC, called Save America, have fallen to such levels that the group has made the highly unusual request of a $60 million refund of a donation it had previously sent to a pro-Trump super PAC. This money had been intended for television commercials to help Mr. Trump’s candidacy, but as he is the dominant front-runner for the Republican nomination in 2024, his most immediate problems appear to be legal, not political. The super PAC, which is called Make America Great Again Inc., has already sent back $12.25 million to the group paying Mr. Trump’s legal bills, according to federal records — a sum nearly as large as the $13.1 million the super PAC raised from donors in the first half of 2023. Those donations included $1 million from the father of his son-in-law, Charles Kushner, whom Mr. Trump pardoned for federal crimes in his final days as president, and $100,000 from a candidate seeking Mr. Trump’s endorsement. The extraordinary shift of money from the super PAC to Mr. Trump’s political committee, described in federal campaign filings as a refund, is believed to be larger than any other refund on record in the history of federal campaigns.

Former first lady Melania Trump has not been a major presence on the campaign trail. People close to the first lady brought up tell-all books which cast her in an unfavorable light. Per The Times, Melania Trump had a sometimes strained relationship with Ivanka Trump — her stepdaughter — and son-in-law Jared Kushner. And Wolkoff's book, "Melania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship with the First Lady," also presented Melania Trump unfavorably. While Melania Trump has so far chosen not to join her husband on the campaign trail this year, she is poised to be a more visible presence next year.

The American theater is on the verge of collapse. The Humana Festival of New American Plays, a vital launching pad for such great playwrights as Lynn Nottage and Will Eno over the past four decades, was canceled this year. This season the Williamstown Theater Festival, one of our most important summer festivals, will consist of only one fully produced work, alongside an anemic offering of staged readings. The Lookingglass, a major anchor of Chicago’s theater scene, is halting production for the year. Nonprofit theaters are where many recent hits — including “A Strange Loop” and “Hamilton,” both of which won Pulitzer Prizes — started out.

Wegovy is a weekly injection that can help patients shed 15% of their weight alongside diet and exercise changes. Walgreens (WBA.O), one of the biggest U.S. pharmacies, is experiencing supply shortages for the higher strengths, spokesperson Erin Loverher confirmed. Doctors in six U.S. states told Reuters patients are reporting problems filling their prescriptions for the higher doses. Three of the doctors said supply delays at pharmacies had resulted in patients missing their Wegovy injections at the prescribed weekly interval. "Patients are often having to delay their injections because it's harder for pharmacies to get Wegovy in stock," he said.

Some of the questions being asked in the grand jury were about whether Donald Trump was told he had lost the election, according to one of the sources familiar. Migrant workers in Oman are constructing a new luxury "city" that includes a Trump-branded hotel. They are laboring in extreme heat for as little as $340 a month, The New York Times reported. Critics of the project note that Oman is not regarded as a safe and welcoming environment for foreign labor. "Migrant workers are often not paid their full wages, forced to work excessively long hours, and denied adequate food and living conditions," according to a 2021 report from Human Rights Watch. Over a thousand migrant workers, many hailing from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, work 10-hour shifts before retiring to trailers that line the under-construction city.
