☆ Bob Costas retiring from baseball play-by-play after 42 years

New York AP —After 42 seasons, Bob Costas is retiring from baseball play-by-play. Costas had done games the past couple seasons for MLB Network and TBS Sports. Costas’ contract with TBS expired at the end of the season, but his plans to retire from baseball play-by-play had been in the works for over a year. I do think that seeing a woman on the ballot will, hopefully, encourage more women to vote, even if they don't vote for Harris. At the time, I thought it was going to be a landslide, like 'We're about to have our first woman president.' I don't think everybody in the U.S. will ever be ready for a woman president, but I don't think everybody in the U.S. was ready for a Black president either. Even if Kamala wins, I don't think everybody in the U.S. is ready for a woman president, just like they weren't ready for a Black president. I think Harris is just bringing a lot of new people into the process who haven't necessarily felt included before.

Census data released on October 17 indicates that New York recorded the highest rate of people moving out of all 50 states. Business Insider calculated each state's net moving rate by comparing the number of people who moved into and out of each state per 1,000 people. The states people move out of the mostOf all 50 states, New York ranks last with a net moving rate of -9.23. But because of its larger population and the greater number of movers into the Golden State, California's net migration rate lands right after Louisiana's. North Dakota — which has about 780,000 residents to New York's 20 million — had the highest net migration rate at 17.55.

The number of E. coli cases linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounders has risen to 90, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday, up from 75 reported cases last Friday. The slivered onions used on the burgers are the “likely source” of the outbreak, the CDC said. The true number of cases linked to the Quarter Pounders is likely much higher than the 90 reported so far. Thirteen states have reported cases: Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming. According to McDonald’s, 900 restaurants across 12 states received the onions from Taylor Farms.

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed Republican officials in Virginia to revive a plan aimed at removing noncitizen voters from the rolls ahead of next week’s election. Virginia has same-day voter registration, meaning that any eligible voter who was removed from the rolls should still be able to vote. The Justice Department said that while states can review its voter rolls, it cannot do so right before an election. States are barred from systematically removing people from voters rolls within 90 days of an election under the National Voter Registration Act. In court papers, the groups said that "the record makes clear that citizens are being removed from the voter rolls."

Ninety people in 13 states have been infected in a deadly E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounders, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday, as it continues to investigate the source of the spread. Before Wednesday, the CDC last gave an update on the outbreak on Friday, when the agency said it had 75 cases in 13 states. Fresh slivered onions served on Quarter Pounders and other menu items at McDonald's are "the likely source of this outbreak," the CDC said on its website on Wednesday. The CDC believes the risk to the public is "very low" due to the efforts from McDonald's and Taylor Farms. A woman died on Saturday after backing into plane's propeller while trying to take a picture at an airfield in Kansas, officials said. The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said the woman was critically injured in the incident and later died at the hospital, according to NBC News affiliate KSNW. CNN —McDonald’s will resume selling Quarter Pounders in all restaurants in the coming week after considering new data regarding an E. coli outbreak linked to its famed burgers, the company announced Sunday. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a food safety alert Tuesday warning dozens of people reported eating the Quarter Pounder sandwich at McDonald’s before becoming sick. On Sunday, the Colorado Department of Agriculture said McDonald’s beef patties used for the Quarter Pounder tested negative for E. coli. The 900 restaurants that received slivered onions from McDonald’s supplier Taylor Farms’ Colorado Springs facility will resume sales of Quarter Pounders without slivered onions, the release added. CNN has reached out to the FDA to see if it has ruled out beef patties as the source of the E. coli outbreak.

Instead, health authorities have honed in on slivered onions used in the Quarter Pounders as the likely suspect for the outbreak. Over a two-week period, McDonald's typically sells roughly one million Quarter Pounders in the affected region, according to company spokespeople. Shares of the company have fallen 7% since the CDC linked the E. coli outbreak to its restaurants.
