He sees California Forever. And if he can't undo the damage, there may never be a California Forever. California Forever may be a subdivision, but it's precisely the kind of subdivision America needs right now. But here's the thing: California Forever may be a subdivision, but it's precisely the kind of subdivision America needs right now. Places like California Forever aren't being opposed by the people who are desperate for a place to live.

Stocks and the economy look strong but there are four factors that could pose a problem, Capital Economics said. Geopolitical risks in the Middle East and high interest rates are big risks to markets. A depreciation of the Chinese yuan and soaring US debt are also the two factors investors need to watch. Last March, Law Roach seemed to be at the peak of his career as a celebrity stylist. He had won the first stylist of the year award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and was working with Zendaya, Celine Dion, Anya Taylor-Joy and Anne Hathaway, among others. Rumors that he had thrown a tantrum because Louis Vuitton wouldn’t seat him next to Zendaya in the front row. On May 6, Mr. Roach is dressing Zendaya, a host of the Met Gala, which he is also attending. And he is plotting a certification course for would-be stylists, which will, essentially, mass-market and formalize his approach.

"Elon Musk's visit to China means far more than seeking approval for self driving tech on Chinese roads. Jonas reiterated an overweight rating on Tesla stock, alongside a $310 per share price target, implying more than 82% upside from Friday's $169.29 close. Tesla jumped as much as 14.4% on Monday following news of Musk's visit to China and meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang , as investors interpreted it as a sign of Musk's commitment to Tesla. To be sure, Musk's visit to China doesn't mean a breakthrough for FSD technology will come sooner. Tesla stock has faced increased pressure in 2024 on several fronts, and has still slumped 22% even after Monday's rally.

The recent late-life critical embrace of a generation of underappreciated major female artists — the 91-year-old nude self-portraitist Joan Semmel, the 84-year-old visual artist and sculptor Barbara Chase-Riboud, the 87-year-old performance and multimedia provocateur Joan Jonas and the Cuban-born abstractionist Carmen Herrera, who died two years ago at age 106 — has brought a measure of satisfaction to the sculptor Arlene Shechet. Also, a good bit of eye rolling. “C’mon now, Carmen had to get to her 90s before people cared,” she says, standing in her roughly 5,000-square-foot Kingston studio, about two hours north of New York City, on a rainy late spring morning, attired in her usual work garb of a knitted cap and an indigo Japanese frock coat now used as a smock, flecked with clay dust and wood chips. “Everyone says ‘Oh, isn’t it so great that these women are getting their due?’ Actually, when you think about it, it’s pretty horrifying.”The 75-year-old Shechet — bemused, kinetic, indomitable — is not in danger of having to wait to be recognized, but you might not realize that, given the furious pace at which she continues to make art. Although she spent the early years of her career teaching at her alma mater, the Rhode Island School of Design, and at Parsons, and raising two children, now in their 30s, in an 1866 building in TriBeCa, continuing to sculpt in a basement studio after their bedtime, she has made up for lost time.

Ford Motor on Wednesday evening delivered higher than expected profits in the first quarter, driven by strength in its commercial business. Quarterly commentary Ford Blue , which represents Ford's gas-powered and hybrid vehicles, saw volumes and revenues down 11% and 13%, respectively. The lower volumes shouldn't be much of a surprise given Ford's pivot toward making more in-demand hybrids and ICE vehicles. Ford raised its adjusted free cash flow outlook for the year by $500 million to between $6.5 billion and $7.5 billion. Lowered capex with higher profits is what we want to see because greater capital efficiency should translate to a higher multiple.

The policy enjoys bipartisan political support in Australia, with both the coalition and Labor governments backing offshore detention. And on face value, the UK’s proposed offshore detention policy follows a similar model to that of Australia. Australia’s own offshore detention policy has been heavily criticized and fraught with controversy – but still seems to exert considerable appeal for some UK politicians. Another difference between two nations stems from the fact Australia does not have a human rights charter, Tubakovic said. Elon Musk might need to start sleeping at Tesla again as tough times mount, according to top bull Adam Jonas of Morgan Stanley. The firm may slowly be exiting the EV industry, given rising Chinese competition and dimming outlooks, he said. "Looking ahead to Tesla's 1Q results ... investors are starting to ask: 'Is it time to sleep on the floor again?'" General Motors is buying back a ton of stock; Ford, so far, not so much. Before the buyback disclosure late this year, Ford had been down 10%, which was less than GM's 14% decline. In guidance alongside Q4 numbers, Ford said it expects warranty costs for full-year 2024 to be flat year over year. "We do not believe Tesla will get credit as an AI company as long as core auto earnings are being revised down," wrote widely-followed Tesla bull Adam Jonas. The $100 bear case suggests that Tesla could fall more than 40% from Wednesday's close. These issues could hamstring Tesla near term, but Jonas expects deliveries to find a bottom in the second quarter. In fact, he views Tesla as a combination of an auto, energy, AI and robotics stock, noting that its auto business represents only 20% of Morgan Stanley's $310 price target valuation. The $310 price target, down from a previous $320, suggests that Tesla stands to gain 84% from Wednesday's close over the next 12 months.

CNN —More than 200 artists, including Billie Eilish, Kacey Musgraves, J Balvin, Ja Rule, Jon Bon Jovi, The Jonas Brothers, Katy Perry, Miranda Lambert and more, are speaking out against artificial intelligence-related threats in the music industry. The letter highlights AI threats including deepfakes and voice cloning, as well as “irresponsible uses of AI” such as the using AI sound to diminish royalty payments to artists and the use of musical works by AI developers without permission to train and produce AI copycats. “Unfortunately, some platforms and developers are employing AI to sabotage creativity and undermine artists, songwriters, musicians and rightsholders.”The letter urges digital music platforms and services to pledge to protect artist. “We must protect against the predatory use of AI to steal professional artists’ voices and likenesses, violate creators’ rights, and destroy the music ecosystem,” the letter says. In a statement, the executive director of the ARA, Jen Jacobsen, said the threats of artificial intelligence are worsening already-tough working conditions for artists.

Wall Street firms know the pains of having to satisfy regulators, and with advancements in artificial intelligence, there's a whole new level of scrutiny and complexity. It involves quality-and-assurance teams who test, verify, validate, and challenge the AI models before they go into production and report issues back to the engineering team to fix. In some cases, banks' technology teams are spending at least half their time documenting models for compliance, Jonas Jacobi, cofounder of fintech startup ValidMind, told Business Insider. AI models are often compared to a "black box" because it can be difficult to understand their decision-making or how the models arrive at their results. With the new injection of capital, ValidMind will build more features, like one aimed at automating the risk management of third-party vendor solutions.
