Voters in seven out of 10 states approved ballot measures this week to safeguard abortion rights, a hot-button issue that helped drive Americans to the polls. Trump has waffled considerably on his position on abortion, most recently saying he would not support a federal ban and wants to leave the issue up to the states. "The more restrictions we see on abortion over the next four years, the worse health outcomes are going to be. People are suffering and dying unnecessarily," said Katie O'Connor, senior director of federal abortion policy at the National Women's Law Center. At least 70% of Americans oppose a federal ban on abortion or a ban on the procedure at six weeks.

Mortgage rates rose again last week, pulling demand from both the refinance and purchase markets. Total mortgage application volume dropped 10.8% compared to the previous week, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association's seasonally adjusted index. Applications for a mortgage to purchase a home decreased 5% for the week and were just 2% higher than the same week one year ago. Mortgage rates, however, are pricing some buyers out again, and concern over the economy and the election may have some sitting on the sidelines right now. Mortgage rates were essentially flat to start this week, and whatever the results, or nonresults of the election, will surely play into recent volatility.

A jury has found a man guilty of conspiring to steal a passenger jet and commit a 9/11-inspired attack under the direction of Somalian terrorist organization “al Shabaab.”Cholo Abdi Abdullah, 34, was found guilty Monday on six counts including conspiring to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization and conspiring to murder U.S. nationals. Abdullah had sworn allegiance to Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mijahideen, the militant Islamist group commonly known as “al Shabaab,” based in Somalia, prosecutors said. He took part in a plot to hijack a commercial plane and crash it into a building in the U.S., reminiscent of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, prosecutors said. On the last day of a brutal, wild and tightly contested campaign, former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris blitzed voters Monday with their final pleas for turnout. Harris and Trump both put their emphasis Monday on Pennsylvania, suggesting they still believe "Keystone State" is more than just a nickname.
