LONDON, March 27 (Reuters) - Barclays (BARC.L) has said recent allegations against its former Chief Executive Jes Staley are "serious and new", after U.S. lawsuits alleged he had a close relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and alleged involvement in his sex-trafficking operation. "The Board's original review, conducted in February 2020, was based on the information it had at the time and representations made by Mr Staley," the notice added. Whatever sentence is pronounced should be served once the former movie producer and Miramax co-founder has completed the 23-year sentence imposed for a sexual misconduct conviction in New York, prosecutors argued in their sentencing memorandum. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lisa Lench declared a mistrial on the deadlocked charges. The producer of "Pulp Fiction" and "Shakespeare in Love" was convicted of sexual misconduct in New York in February 2020, and extradited from New York to a Los Angeles prison in July 2021. A lawsuit filed Monday in New York City alleges that Hollywood writer-director James Toback is a “serial sexual predator” who targeted and abused dozens of women over decades while often saying he wanted to cast them in his films. The Harvard Club of New York City, where the suit alleges Toback "lured" several of the women, is also named as a defendant. In some cases cited in the suit, Toback allegedly blocked women from escaping or chased them when they fled before sexually assaulting them. CNN —Apple has been sued by two women who allege their previous romantic partners used the company’s AirTag devices to track their whereabouts, potentially putting their safety at risk. But soon after its launch, some experts warned that the devices could be used to track individuals without their consent. This isn’t the first time AirTags have allegedly been used for unwanted tracking. In June, a woman from Indiana allegedly used one to track and ultimately murder her boyfriend over an alleged affair, according to reports. Earlier this year, Apple added more safeguards to the AirTag to cut down on unwanted tracking.

CNN —Both the defense and prosecution in the Los Angeles sexual assault trial against former movie mogul Harvey Weinstein concluded closing arguments Thursday, bringing the weekslong trial one step closer to jury deliberations. A rebuttal from prosecutors to the defense attorney’s closing remarks is expected to begin Friday morning. Jurors heard from about 50 witnesses, including four accusers who were identified in court as Jane Does due to the nature of their allegations. Those alleged incidents are not being charged as part of this case because they happened outside of Los Angeles County. Midway through the trial, four of the original 11 charges against Weinstein tied to a fifth Jane Doe were dropped without explanation.

LOS ANGELES — The jury weighing the rape charges against “That ‘70s Show” star Danny Masterson announced Wednesday it was hopelessly deadlocked and a mistrial was declared. Masterson has also denied assaulting a fourth woman, identified as Jane Doe #4, who told the court she too had been raped by him. While the judge allowed testimony by Jane Doe #4, Masterson was not criminally charged with raping her. A lawsuit accusing former “Saturday Night Live” star Horatio Sanz of grooming a teenage girl and sexually assaulting her two decades ago her was dismissed, according to a court filing. Lawyers for Sanz and NBCUniversal, the other defendants listed in the filing, did not immediately respond to requests for comment Tuesday night. Sanz, who appeared on “Saturday Night Live” between 1998 and 2006, was 31. In a court filing in April, Sanz acknowledged knowing the teen but denied the allegations.
