CNN —Five-time Olympic gold medalist Elaine Thompson-Herah will miss Paris 2024 with an Achilles injury, she announced on social media. “I am hurt and devastated to be missing the Olympic this year but at the end of the day it’s sports and my health comes first. In doing so, she became the first woman to complete the Olympic sprint double since Florence Griffith-Joyner at Seoul 1988. Thompson-Herah – who turns 32 on Friday – finished last in the Prefontaine Classic last month with a time of 11.30, with one of her main rivals for Olympic gold, American Sha’Carri Richardson, finishing first. Then, at the New York Grand Prix in June, she once again finished last with a time of 11.48.

CNN —Sha’Carri Richardson has qualified for her first Olympic games after winning the 100-meter final on Saturday at the Olympic trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Richardson finished in first place with a time of 10.71 – the fastest time in the 100m in the world this year – to book her spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics with the US Olympic team. CNN —A delegation of Kenyan “command staff” has arrived in Haiti, according to a law enforcement source in the country, ahead of the long-delayed arrival of a Kenyan-led multinational security support force in the Caribbean nation. Members of the delegation are also expected to meet with US and United Nations officials in the country, sources said. The UN Security Council last year authorized a multinational mission to support Haiti’s National Police in battling deadly gangs that have seized control of much of the capital Port-au-Prince. But despite strong support from the US and other regional powers, the mission has been mired in uncertainty and legal challenges for months.
