Alphabet : If this mega-cap name experiences a move lower, investors should scoop up shares, Jim said. Nvidia : There's not much more to say about Nvidia in light of another blowout earnings report and the strong guidance accompanying it.

In addition to Wegovy and Ozempic, the GLP-1 class includes Eli Lilly's highly popular weight loss drug Zepbound and diabetes treatment Mounjaro. VanGilder signed up nearly four years ago and started taking the weekly diabetes injection Ozempic specifically for weight loss. The big difference between Calibrate and prior weight loss efforts, VanGilder said, is that she doesn't feel like she's dieting. Calibrate is one of the only companies to regularly release reports detailing the results of its weight loss program. The federal Medicare program by law can't cover weight loss drugs unless the prescription is for another approved health benefit, such as diabetes or cardiovascular health.

But the new analyses could be warning signs for Trump Media, whose business depends in large part on growing its user base. Truth Social users were down 19.7% year over year, according to Similarweb. Truth Social users on average check the site fewer than two days a week — falling behind apps like Facebook, X, TikTok, Reddit and Pinterest. Truth Social users also clock fewer minutes of engagement on the platform that do the users of other social media networks. "Compared to other social media platforms, Truth Social users are accessing the app much less frequently and are spending much less time on it per session," the firm's CEO, Dr. Paul Carter, told CNBC in an email.

Target on Wednesday posted a year-over-year sales decline and missed Wall Street's earnings estimates, as consumers fatigued from high prices bought both fewer discretionary items and groceries. On a call with reporters, CEO Brian Cornell said the company's results reflect "continued soft trends in discretionary categories." Target also announced Monday it was cutting prices on thousands of everyday items, including milk, bread, paper towels and diapers. Like other retailers, Target has tried to win over consumers who are not spending as freely on clothing, home goods or other discretionary items. Walmart, for example, has gained market share from higher-income shoppers and recently introduced a premium food brand with most items under $5.

Nestle is launching a new frozen-food brand, Vital Pursuit, aimed at the growing market of consumers who are using GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy. In October, Walmart's U.S. CEO John Furner told Bloomberg that people who pick up GLP-1 drugs from its pharmacies are buying less food, typically with fewer calories. But Nestle sees an opportunity to cater to those consumers through Vital Pursuit. Vital Pursuit's packaging won't include mentions of GLP-1 medications, but Nestle said the company will more directly connect the brand to the drugs on social media. The food company expects that its global growth will slow this year as inflation-weary consumers buy less of its products.

U.K. stocks are finally turning a corner after years of underperformance, according to one chief investment officer, who stressed that valuations are looking "very cheap." The U.K. FTSE 100 is up around 11% over the last three months, while the broader FTSE 250 index is more than 9% higher. In comparison, the U.S.' S&P 500 is trading around 6% higher over the same period. He gave the example of oil giant Shell trading at a significantly lower price-to-earnings multiple than its U.S. rivals. A low P/E multiple — the ratio of a company's share price to its earnings per share — can indicate that a stock is undervalued.

"Consumers continue to be even more discriminating with every dollar that they spend as they faced elevated prices in their day-to-day spending," McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski said on the company's conference call in late April. Paul Weaver | SOPA Images | Getty ImagesFor more than two years, consumers have dealt with sharply rising prices. But that doesn't mean the actual prices seen on grocery store shelves or restaurant menus will fall, and shoppers are feeling that pinch. While some CEOs have said that consumers are growing more cautious, others — like those in the airline industry — have celebrated strong and persistent spending. Corporate misfires can also lead to disappointing sales, even if their shoppers aren't necessarily pulling back on their spending.

Walmart Opens the Year With Stronger Sales and Profit

The Numbers: Sales grew in stores and especially online. Walmart said its comparable-store sales in its U.S. business rose 3.8 percent from the quarter a year earlier. Walmart has performed better than retailers dependent on apparel sales, in part because it also sells essential goods like groceries. Walmart’s quarterly profit, of $5.1 billion, was triple the result a year earlier. The retailer’s stock rose in premarket trading, as investors reacted to last quarter’s results and the company’s upgraded forecast for growth this year.

Neuralink deemed the risk low enough for a redesign not to be merited, the sources added. Neuralink is testing its implant to give paralyzed patients the ability to use digital devices by thinking alone, a prospect that could help people with spinal cord injuries. The company said last week that the implant's tiny wires, which are thinner than a human hair, retracted from a patient's brain in its first human trial, resulting in fewer electrodes that could measure brain signals. The company said it managed to restore the implant's ability to monitor its patient's brain signals by making changes that included modifying its algorithm to be more sensitive. In the weeks after the surgery, "a number of threads retracted from the brain," Neuralink said in a blog update last week.

Walmart is cutting hundreds of corporate jobs and asking most remote workers to move to offices, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing people familiar with the matter. Walmart will still let staff work remotely part time, as long as they are in offices a majority of the time, the report said. Walmart employed approximately 2.1 million associates as of Jan. 31, 2024, according to regulatory filings. In February 2023, it shut three of its U.S. technology hubs and asked hundreds of workers to relocate to keep their jobs, pushing for more employees to report to work from office. The Dublin-based parent company of FanDuel launched a secondary listing of its shares on the New York Stock Exchange on Jan. 29. Shareholders have since voted to making the NYSE the primary listing for the stock rather than London, and that change is slated to take effect May 31. UBS analyst Ben Shelley said in a May 9 note to clients that the primary listing change could help close those gaps. Flutter is not the only company in recent years to shift its primary listing to the U.S., and the track records of those companies could be a positive sign for Flutter. UBS pointed to building materials companies CRH — which transitioned its primary listing to the NYSE in September 2023 — and Ferguson — which made the switch in May 2022 — as examples.

MonzoBritish neobank Monzo said Wednesday that it's raised another $190 million, lifting the total it's raised so far this year to $610 million. Singaporean sovereign wealth fund GIC also participated in Monzo's latest fundraise, a source familiar with the matter told CNBC. General Motors said on Wednesday that it would stop making the Chevrolet Malibu, the last affordable sedan in its U.S. model lineup and a venerable nameplate that was introduced in the 1960s when the company was a dominant force in the U.S. economy. For years, American drivers have been gravitating toward sport utility vehicles and away from sedans, compacts and hatchbacks. G.M.’s two Detroit rivals, Stellantis and Ford Motor, have also largely wiped their slates clean of cars in the United States. Last month, Subaru, a Japanese automaker, said it would stop making its Legacy sedan next year. produces the Malibu at a plant in Fairfax, Kan., and will continue to manufacture the car until later this year, when it plans to retool the factory to make a new version of the Chevrolet Bolt, an electric car, and the Cadillac XT4, a luxury S.U.V.

Yen eases despite intervention threat, Aussie steady before RBA

The yen continued to drift lower against the dollar on Tuesday as gaping interest rate differentials weighed on the currency, despite fresh warnings from Japanese officials following two rounds of suspected dollar-selling intervention last week. The U.S. dollar gained 0.22% to 154.235 yen in early Asian trading, adding to its 0.58% rally from Monday. The Aussie edged up 0.17% to $0.6636, heading back towards the high of $0.6650 from Friday, a level last seen on March 8. All but one of the 37 economists surveyed in a Reuters poll expect the RBA to keep rates on hold, with the other predicting a quarter point rate hike, amid stubbornly high inflation. "A different set of central bankers would have had the policy rate higher sooner on the same set of data," Taylor Nugent, a markets economist at National Australia Bank, wrote in a note.

The chairman of the powerful House Judiciary Committee is launching an investigation into Formula 1 and its U.S. owner, Liberty Media , to demand answers about the sport's decision to deny Andretti Global a spot on the grid. The letter is dated Tuesday and addressed to Greg Maffei, the president and CEO of Liberty Media, and Stefano Domenicali, the president and CEO of Formula One Group. "Delaying Andretti Cadillac's entry into Formula One for even one year will harm American consumers to benefit failing Formula One teams," Jordan writes. "Limiting the number of teams in Formula One will increase the price of sponsoring or buying into an existing Formula One team. The letter comes days after Mario Andretti, a former Formula 1 world champion, visited Capitol Hill and spoke at a press conference with lawmakers to pressure the sport to admit Andretti Global.

But Deutsche kept its $89 price target, which suggests the stock could gain just 0.6%, as of Tuesday's close. Starbucks stock hasn't logged a positive year since 2021. Bank of America's Sara Senatore maintained her buy rating and $108 price target, which implies roughly 22% potential upside — a fairly bullish aim compared with other firms. Underpinning Senatore's stance is her expectation that Starbucks' earnings growth will reaccelerate in 2025, fueled by traffic-driving initiatives, such as more menu innovation and operational improvements. JPMorgan analyst John Ivankoe kept his overweight rating but moved his price target lower to $92 from $100.

Getir, the rapid grocery-delivery company that boomed during Covid lockdowns, said it was ending its operations in the United States and Europe, a major retreat by another pandemic darling. At its height, the privately held Getir was valued at nearly $12 billion after expanding quickly, buying up competitors and operating in nine countries. The company announced the decision in a short statement on Monday, adding that FreshDirect, its U.S. subsidiary, would continue operations. “Getir generates only 7 percent of its revenues from the markets it is exiting,” the statement said. “This decision will allow Getir to focus its financial resources on Turkey.”
