They said 54% of Aritzia employees and 60% of retail employees identified as BIPOC but declined to provide a breakdown of those statistics. Insider spoke with 53 current and former Aritzia employees, several of whom said that while the world of fashion is notoriously cutthroat, working at Aritzia was particularly grueling. Aritzia's spokesperson said the company's success was a "direct result of its high-performance culture." (In a statement of defense filed with the court on July 5, the store manager and Aritzia denied all allegations. A former Ontario store manager said that shortly after she was hired, the manager of store operations asked if she had a boyfriend.

But one recent PR campaign has centered on Justice Clarence Thomas, The Washington Post reported. But one more recent campaign was directed at Justice Thomas, who had already spent about three decades on the Court's bench. According to the Post, a nonprofit called the Judicial Education Project paid the lawyer about $300,000 in 2016 for "media projects." "Since his confirmation on October 15, 1991, Justice Thomas has been a stalwart defender of the original meaning of the Constitution." The comment was made years ago in a 2007 biography of Thomas, "Supreme Discomfort: The Divided Soul of Clarence Thomas."

Wall Street has gone from more than a year of worrying about a recession to thinking that one actually may not happen. At this point, the outgoing executive said, it doesn't even matter much if the U.S. hits a technical recession. "What matters is if you have a deep recession that changes the unemployment, and that's not happening," he said. Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee is among those who think the economy can avoid a recession even with 5 percentage points worth of rate hikes since March 2022. Finally, those expecting a "soft landing" for the economy rose to 68%, against 21% of those who see a hard landing.

Last week Sarah Brady, an ex-girlfriend of actor Jonah Hill, started posting screenshots of text messages the couple exchanged during their year-long relationship to her Instagram account. He includes "surfing with men," "to post pictures of yourself in a bathing suit," and "to model." The screenshots sparked discussion around Hill's use of the word "boundaries" and how what we know as "therapy-speak" can be invoked to justify questionable behavior. "Therapy speak has become weaponized in many ways," says Lisa Marie Bobby, psychologist and clinical director of Growing Self Counseling & Coaching in Denver. "By saying, 'you're failing to respect my boundaries,' it is effectively stopping the conversation and accusing someone else of being inappropriate," Bobby says.

Drew Angerer | Getty Images News | Getty ImagesCentral banks are at "the end of the beginning" in their battle against inflation, as several factors keep core prices persistently high, according to top Societe Generale economist Kokou Agbo-Bloua. U.S. inflation cooled in May to an annual 4%, its lowest annual rate in more than two years, but core inflation rose by 0.4% month-on-month and 5.3% year-on-year. In assessing the current state of global policymakers' efforts to tame inflation, Agbo-Bloua quoted former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill's remarks in a 1942 speech: "Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. He suggested that this has helped to keep the labor market resilient, which will likely extend this lag time.

Several friends of Clarence Thomas helped finance a documentary on the justice. Thomas vehemently denied the allegations and was confirmed to the Supreme Court in a close 52-48 vote. The actor Wendell Pierce, best known for his role as Detective William "Bunk" Moreland on HBO's "The Wire," played Thomas. That film, "Created Equal: Clarence Thomas In His Own Words," was released in 2020. While speaking during an appearance at a Connecticut library, he once remarked that Thomas had dealt with "lies, innuendo, distortions, and outright personal attacks" throughout the Supreme Court confirmation process.

Lawmakers and federal regulators are contemplating changing the definition of "accredited investor." There's a philosophical debate raging in Washington that could transform the multitrillion-dollar capital markets and change the way startups raise money. The origins of the definition of "accredited investor" trace back to the Great Depression and the Securities Act of 1933. And since the Reg D exemption's creation, private markets have become the dominant way for most issuers to access capital markets. According to analysis from the Brookings Institution, in 2020, 13.85% of US households qualified as accredited investors, compared with just 1.8% in 1983.

Ron DeSantis' presidential campaign speech in Iowa sounded uncannily similar to Winston Churchill's. The syntax of his speech was similar to that of Churchill's iconic World War II speech. Ron DeSantis' channeled former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill at an Iowa campaign even this weekend, invoking Churchill's famous World War II speech to tout his own position on "woke" ideology. We will fight the woke in education, we will fight the woke in the corporations, we will fight the woke in the halls of Congress." However, Trump himself has invoked the same Churchill speech.

Since then, Japanese equities have rallied. Even so, Strategas Securities' Chris Verrone has remained optimistic on Japanese equities, saying this week that the rally is not yet overbought. Meanwhile, JPMorgan chief market strategist Marko Kolanovic said in a note, also on Tuesday, that the rally in Japan still has "staying power." For international investors, those remarks signaled that Japanese companies may be more transparent with shareholders in the future. Investors can also take a company-specific approach, according to Diamond Hill's Mohanraj, who favors Japanese companies that boast differentiated products.

Conners had started the day level with Scheffler one back of pacesetting Bryson DeChambeau and finished it in the same position also signing for a 68. World number 11 Hovland began his round with back-to-back birdies and then drained a five-foot birdie putt at the 18th to join Conners and Scheffler on five-under 135. "The tournament is halfway done," said Scheffler, who can reclaim the number ranking with a win on Sunday.
Dan Loeb's Third Point built a sizable stake in Google parent Alphabet in the first quarter, according to a new regulatory filing. The hedge fund added a position in Alphabet worth nearly $500 million at the end of March, making it the fund's fifth biggest holding, the SEC filing showed. Shares of Alphabet rallied almost 12% this month alone, pushing its 2023 gain near 36%. Third Point kept its biggest holdings — PG & E , Colgate-Palmolive , Danaher and Bath & Body Works — relatively unchanged last quarter. In other bets, Loeb added a new stake in Salesforce , worth $160 million at the end of March.

The complaint was sent to the US judges' Committee on Financial Disclosure. For now, questions about Thomas's previously undisclosed financial dealings with Harlan Crow, a billionaire Texas real-estate developer, will fall to an obscure committee of sixteen federal judges — the Committee on Financial Disclosure. Koszczuk said the same letterhead was routinely sent to any member of the public who asked for a judge's financial disclosure report. When Ranjan wrote his article, a review of a Thomas biography, the controversies surrounding Thomas had nothing to do with his financial disclosures. Judges' financial disclosures are only updated annually, and until recently, it wasn't easy to get ahold of them.

Thao had opted to allow Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill decide whether he was guilty or not guilty, waiving his right to a trial by jury. Derek Chauvin, a white officer captured on cellphone video kneeling on the handcuffed Floyd's neck for more than nine minutes, was found guilty of murdering Floyd in 2021. With Chauvin kneeling on Floyd's neck, and Lane and Kueng restraining his knees and buttocks, Floyd pleaded for his life before falling limp. Two other former officers, Thomas Lane and J. At a federal trial last year, Keung, Lane and Thao were found guilty of violating Floyd's civil rights.
April 28 (Reuters) - Colgate-Palmolive Co (CL.N) raised its full-year organic sales forecast on Friday, betting on consistent price hikes and steady demand for its pet nutrition products. The company now expects full-year organic sales growth of 4% to 6%, compared with its prior expectations of 3% to 5% range. Peer Kimberly-Clark Corp (KMB.N) also raised its full-year profit forecast on Tuesday, helped by consistent price hikes. While that pulled down its total organic volumes by 2%, this was more than offset by a 12% increase in prices. Colgate-Palmolive's revenue rose over 8% to $4.77 billion in the quarter ended March 31, beating analysts' average estimate of $4.58 billion, according to Refinitiv data.
LONDON, April 26 (Reuters) - U.S. clean technology subsidies are sucking capital from Europe, making it more urgent to improve London as a global financial centre, business bosses told UK lawmakers on Wednesday. It's the biggest shift in competitive dynamic in my career," GlaxoSmithKline chair Jonathan Symonds told a Treasury Select Committee hearing on why UK companies are listing in New York instead. "The effect of what's happening through the Inflation Reduction Act across the whole of Europe is like a dirty great hoover on full suction mode," said Jonathan Hill, who authored a government-backed report on reforming UK listing rules. Britain has already eased listing rules in line with Hill's recommendations, and plans further changes. UK listed companies disclose whether they follow governance best practice or explain why they do not, but critics say flexibility has been lost.
Kevin McCarthy plans to have the House vote on his debt ceiling bill on Wednesday. Other House GOP lawmakers wanted to see stricter work requirements for welfare programs in the legislation. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's proposal would only raise the debt ceiling by $1.5 trillion, or until March 31, 2024 — whichever comes first. Ensuring another debt ceiling fight just months before next year's elections is reportedly drawing some ire, or at least headaches, from fellow Republicans. "The American people expect and deserve serious, sensible action to address our soaring national debt," McCarthy and other GOP leaders said in a statement on the legislation.
LONDON, April 20 (Reuters) - U.S. investment bank Guggenheim Securities will begin its European expansion by hiring four senior bankers from Greenhill, three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. Guggenheim already had a small group of bankers covering European deals, one of the sources said. The Wall Street bank has snapped up Greenhill & Co.'s telecoms and digital infrastructure team, led by Jonathan Dann and Pieter-Jan Bouten, the sources said on condition of anonymity. Investment bankers Charlie Evans and Achille Del Pizzo will also move to Guggenheim, where the team will begin in May. Guggenheim, which according to Refinitiv ranked 39th among global M&A advisers in 2022, in the first quarter advised on Pfizer Inc.'s $43 billion deal to acquire Seagen Inc.
