But key questions remain about when exactly water first appeared on Mars and how it evolved — and disappeared — over time. Scientists analyzed a sample from the “Black Beauty” meteorite, also known as NWA 7034, that was found in the Sahara Desert in 2011. If hydrothermal systems existed in the Martian crust 4.45 billion years ago, liquid water likely made its way to the surface. “Many environments on Earth host life in hot water systems, including hot springs, and hydrothermal vents. Currently, the Perseverance rover is climbing the rim of Jezero Crater on Mars, an ancient lake once filled with water 3.7 billion years ago.

Merriam-Webster’s word of the year is one that the dictionary suggests unifies both sides of the aisle. The word was frequently used by the media this year, Merriam-Webster noted, and was repeated on networks like MSNBC and Fox News — particularly when describing politics and the presidential election. Several other terms associated with politics — including “democracy” — also made the dictionary’s words of the year list. But this year, Merriam-Webster said the word saw a “rise in lookups” due to “multiple reasons relating to the U.S. election,” including the health of both President Joe Biden and Trump. Meanwhile, Collins Dictionary named “Brat” word of the year, after the Charli XCX album became part of the cultural zeitgeist over the summer.

He did so as the rebels entered and seized Damascus, seemingly with little fightback from Assad’s government forces. Syria dominated international consciousness for almost a decade, its civil war erupting after Assad crushed peaceful protests during the region-wide 2011 Arab Spring. But until last month the conflict had been largely at a stalemate, after Assad’s forces regained control of much of the country. The conflict in Syria partly contributed to a wave of mass migration into Europe, met by a right-wing backlash across the continent that is still reverberating today. Much of this diaspora has also responded to Assad’s downfall with astonished glee, some rushing to return home.

The business started having $100,000 AUD (about $65,000 USD) months and never went back. CNN —A word that has been used incessantly to describe the fraught state of American politics and society is Merriam-Webster’s 2024 word of year. “The online dictionary tells us which words are being looked up, but also in what volume. “And polarization is the term that has been used by everyone.”Other contenders for word of the year included “totality,” following an April solar eclipse that drew astronomical excitement, and “fortnight,” the primarily British word that’s also a Taylor Swift song. Merriam-Webster is one of the final few English-language dictionary platforms to release its annual word. Earlier in December, Oxford Dictionary announced that “brain rot” was its word of the year, while Cambridge Dictionary declared “manifest” its lead word for 2024.

If fewer homes are built in a supply-constrained market, prices might grow much higher, said Channel. More than 21 million renter households are “cost-burdened,” meaning they spent more than 30% of their income on housing costs, according to 2023 U.S. Census data. “Rent prices typically decline in the colder months of the year,” as fewer people are apartment hunting in the late fall and winter seasons.
