A video showing soldiers placing an Israeli flag on the roof of a school in Gaza has been miscaptioned in online posts that claim it shows the Al Shifa hospital. Israeli troops entered Gaza’s biggest hospital Al Shifa on Nov. 15, with Israel saying its forces found weapons as well as an underground structure it called a Hamas tunnel shaft after two days of searching the hospital complex, while Hamas denied the assertion. A post (archived) on social media said: “This is the IOF putting up a flag at Al-Shifa Hospital. The video circulating online, however, does not show the Al Shifa hospital. LONDON (AP) — TikTok and Facebook owner Meta are filing legal challenges against new European Union rules designed to counter the dominance of digital giants and make online competition fairer by giving consumers more choice. The Digital Markets Act will take effect by March, with a list of dos and don'ts for big tech companies aimed at giving users more choices and threatening big penalties if they don't comply. Labeling TikTok a gatekeeper undermines the DMA’s goal by “protecting actual gatekeepers from newer competitors like TikTok,” the company said, adding that the video-sharing app is “arguably the most capable challenger” to bigger social media rivals. Political Cartoons View All 1250 ImagesAmazon, Apple, Google and Microsoft also were given the gatekeeper label in September, along with TikTok parent company ByteDance and Meta. Meta is not arguing with being designated a gatekeeper, but the company thinks the European Commission, the EU's executive arm, was wrong to specifically single out Marketplace and Messenger as core platform services.

His review was fake — part of an effort to boost the online ratings for Dr. Mohrmann’s business using phony positive reviews, according to an analysis by Fake Review Watch, an industry watchdog. Last month, Dr. Mohrmann agreed to pay a $100,000 penalty to settle with New York’s attorney general on charges of deceiving the public with fake reviews. The fake review for Dr. Mohrmann is just one example of the billion-dollar fake review industry, where people and businesses pay marketers to post fake positive reviews to Google Maps, Amazon, Yelp and other platforms, and deceive millions of customers each year. Fake reviews are as old as the internet itself, and they are illegal and banned by online platforms. But fake review businesses have continued to blossom anyway.

The company said artificial intelligence allowed for improvements to Google Maps' EV charging station feature, more specific recommendations of nearby activities and more in-depth visualization. New ways to search for things to doGoogle Maps is offering new ways for people to search for activities to do near them as well. Instead of getting a random list of activities near you, Google Maps will return a categorized list of activities grouped by topic. CNN —When Google Maps users navigated to the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt on Tuesday, they might have seen placenames that included, “F**k Israel,” and “May god curse Israel’s Jerusalem.”Cyber activists appeared to have targeted the service to post anti-Israel messages, likely by taking advantage of a feature on Google Maps that allows people to create and contribute information about businesses and landmarks that appear on the service. The company did not say if the action was at the request of the Israel Defense Forces. Google took the same action at the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year after online researchers used live traffic data to track the movements of Russian troops. It is unclear if the targeting of Google Maps with anti-Israeli messages was the result of the company’s decision to disable live traffic data. After CNN shared several examples of fake anti-Israel placenames with Google on Tuesday, a company spokesperson said, “On Google Maps, we strive to strike the right balance of helping people find reliable information about local places, and reducing inaccurate or misleading content.

Google has suspended live traffic updates in Israel and Gaza amid the war. Google Maps also suspended live traffic updates in Ukraine in 2022 amid Russia's invasion. It turned off live traffic updates in Ukraine, reportedly because the apps were being used to track military movements. Google Maps' live traffic updates work by getting data from smartphones that have the app installed. Those in the area will still be able to use Google Maps and Waze to help with navigation.
