LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis called his new home the Death Star in 2020 — and the name stuck. The futuristic stadium takes center stage on Feb. 11 when the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers meet in the first-ever Super Bowl in Las Vegas. Last year's Super Bowl host, the Arizona Cardinals' stadium, uses a similar transfer system. Players slipped on that grass in the Super Bowl, which the Chiefs won 38-35 over the Philadelphia Eagles. The NHL's Vegas Golden Knights and the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces also had the honors after winning their leagues' championships.

TickPick's highest non-COVID Super Bowl was in 2020 at Miami Gardens, Florida, when the Chiefs and Niners met for the first time in the championship game. That average price was $6,370. “Location has always impacted demand for a Super Bowl, but Vegas takes things to a whole other level,” TickPick co-CEO Brett Goldberg said in a statement to The Associated Press. "It’s already the entertainment capital of the world, and could very well become the sports capital of the world after the Super Bowl. “With both teams having made at least one Super Bowl appearance in the past five years, we would typically expect there to be slight fatigue from fans, in turn causing prices to dip.

Relatives of tourists killed in the 2002 terrorist bombing in Bali, Indonesia, spoke of endless, devastating grief, and two prisoners who conspired in the attack renounced violence in the name of Islam on Thursday for a U.S. military jury assembled at Guantánamo Bay to deliberate their sentence. The prisoners, Mohammed Farik Bin Amin and Mohammed Nazir Bin Lep, both Malaysians, pleaded guilty last week to war crimes charges for conspiring with an affiliate of Al Qaeda that carried out the attack. He was born after his uncle, Nathaniel Dan Miller, 31, was killed in the bombing and read a statement written by the victim’s mother, his grandmother. Today, remote work has declined from its levels of the pandemic but is still – depending on how broadly one measures it – three to four times as prevalent as it was in 2019. And remote work tends to be dominated by higher-educated employees, with nearly 40% of those holding advanced degrees hybrid or fully remote. In early January, LinkedIn’s Global State of Remote and Hybrid Work study found that at its peak, in April of 2022, the share of job postings that offered remote work reached 20.3%. The more enduring feature of remote work is now hybrid.”There are also substantial differences within industry and among countries. “You’re moving to where the housing is cheaper.”Not that it is all rosy when it comes to remote work.

CNN —CONMEBOL, South America’s soccer federation, has announced the 14 cities that will host matches at the 2024 Copa América as the tournament returns to the United States for the first time since 2016. Ecuador was originally designated as the tournament host but pulled out in November 2022 due to economic and security concerns, as well as a lack of viable stadiums. CONMEBOL has encountered obstacles in hosting the last three editions of the Copa América held in South America. Now, for the third edition in a row, the host nation has been changed after the US took over organizing duties from Ecuador. You'll need to make over $200,000 annually to afford a home in some California cities, a recent National Association of Realtors report reveals. Perhaps unsurprisingly, cities that require the highest income are large urban coastal hubs where homes tend to be more expensive. In California, homes are both desirable and scarce, which is why the state has some of the highest home prices in the U.S. Here are the 11 metro areas where households need to earn over $200,000 to afford a median-priced home. Similarly, homes in smaller rust belt and rural cities are much cheaper compared with some cities in California.

"Ghost guns" seized in federal law enforcement actions are displayed at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) field office in Glendale, California on April 18, 2022. A federal appeals court on Thursday ruled that the Biden administration lacked authority to adopt a regulation aimed at reining in privately made firearms called "ghost guns" that are difficult for law enforcement to trace. Circuit Court of Appeals sided with a group of firearm owners, gun rights groups and manufacturers in declaring the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' 2022 rule "unlawful." The administration has said that ghost guns are attractive to criminals and others prohibited from lawfully buying firearms, including minors. There were about 20,000 suspected ghost guns reported in 2021 to the ATF as having been recovered by law enforcement in criminal investigations — a tenfold increase from 2016, according to the White House.

REUTERS/Chris Helgren Acquire Licensing RightsNEW YORK, Nov 8 (Reuters) - Citigroup Inc (C.N) has agreed to pay $25.9 million to settle U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) charges it intentionally discriminated against credit card applicants who the bank identified as Armenian-American based on their last names. The CFPB also said bank employees lied to applicants by giving them fake reasons for denials, and were instructed not to discuss the discrimination in writing or over the phone. According to a consent order, some employees referred to card applicants they suspected were of Armenian descent as "Armenian bad guys" or the "Southern California Armenian Mafia." The payment includes a $24.5 million civil fine and $1.4 million of restitution to card applicants, for violations of the federal Equal Credit Opportunity Act. Citigroup apologized, saying it had been trying to thwart an Armenian fraud ring in California but that a "small number" of employees circumvented its fraud detection protocols.

NEW YORK (AP) — Citigroup intentionally discriminated against Armenian Americans when they applied for credit cards, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau said Wednesday. The bureau said some bank employees argued internally that Armenian Americans were more likely to commit fraud and referred to applicants as “bad guys” or as affiliated with organized crime. As part of the order, Citi will pay $24.5 million in fines as well as $1.4 million in remedies to impacted customers. However, in the bureau's order, these Citi employees used identifiable information that broadly discriminated against Armenian Americans in general. The bank has been fined or cited several times by the CFPB, as well as by the Federal Reserve, for unsound business practices.

According to the regulator, Citi employees pegged the community, in Glendale, Calif., as a group whose members were likely to rack up huge debts and then flee the country. They warned new hires not to give credit card applicants with Armenian-sounding last names that ended in “ian” or “yan” the same rates that other customers received, and in some cases urged them to reject these applicants altogether. The people affected by the bank’s practice were not applying for Citigroup-branded cards; they were seeking cards offered by retailers, like Home Depot and Best Buy, that were underwritten by the bank. Eric Halperin, the consumer bureau’s enforcement director, said during the news conference that Citigroup was still trying to identify how many people were affected by the discrimination, but so far regulators had identified “hundreds.”Karen Kearns, a spokeswoman for Citigroup, said in a statement that the bank had been “trying to thwart a well-documented Armenian fraud ring operating in certain parts of California,” and that “a few employees took impermissible actions.”According to regulators, Citi managers knew excluding Armenians was illegal and warned employees “not to discuss it in writing or on recorded phone lines.” Even so, regulators found evidence of Citi employees discussing over email how to cover up their denial of applicants from Glendale. “It’s been a while since I declined for possible credit abuse/YAN — gimme some reasons I can use,” one employee wrote to another in 2016, seeking advice on how to tell a potential customer that a credit card application had been denied without revealing the real reason, according to the consumer bureau.

At 30,000 square feet, Amazon Style is smaller than traditional department stores, but offers "more than double the number of styles," according to a press release. Amazon is shuttering its brick-and-mortar apparel stores almost a year and a half after opening the first location, the company confirmed, marking the latest shift in its physical retail strategy. The company said it will close its two Amazon Style stores in Columbus, Ohio, and Glendale, California, by Nov. 9. "Physical retail remains an important part of our business, and we're continuing to invest in growing our grocery stores business, which spans Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, Amazon Go, and third-party partnerships." It represented the company's first foray into hawking clothes, shoes and accessories in the offline world, and its latest attempt at cracking physical retail.

The company said Thursday that it will close both of its “Amazon Style” stores located in Los Angeles and Columbus, Ohio, making it the latest brick-and-mortar business abandoned by Amazon. Amazon opened the first Amazon Style store last year at The Americana at Brand, a mall in Glendale, California. Earlier this year, Amazon said it was shutting down some Amazon Fresh and Go stores that weren’t living up to their promise. “Physical retail remains an important part of our business, and we’re continuing to invest in growing our grocery stores business, which spans Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, Amazon Go, and third-party partnerships,” spokesperson Kristen Kish said. In August, the company showed off two redesigned Amazon Fresh stores in Illinois that it says will provide more product selections, low prices on more items and greater convenience during checkout.

Universal Music has sued artificial intelligence startup Anthropic over "systematic and widespread infringement of their copyrighted song lyrics," per a filing Wednesday in a Tennessee federal court. One example from the lawsuit: When a user asks Anthropic's AI chatbot Claude about the lyrics to the song "Roar" by Katy Perry, it generates an "almost identical copy of those lyrics," violating the rights of Concord, the copyright owner, per the filing. The lawsuit also named Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" as an example of Anthropic's alleged copyright infringement, as Universal owns the rights to its lyrics. Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI research executives and funded by companies including Google , Salesforce and Zoom.
