CNN —A sign greets visitors arriving at a sun-filled two-story house in El Salvador’s capital. But within El Salvador, a largely Catholic and evangelical Christian country, some viewed the women’s accounts with skepticism and hostility. Again, the UN’s human rights office weighed in, calling El Salvador’s laws “draconian.”Two months later, 11 justices from El Salvador’s Supreme Court commuted Vásquez’s sentence, saying evidence in the case did not prove that she had taken any action to end her baby’s life. The Harvard professor has been studying these women’s cases and the impact of El Salvador’s abortion restrictions for years. This shows her after a visit in August 2018, six months after El Salvador's Supreme Court commuted her sentence.

(AP) — Washington Commanders part-owner Magic Johnson criticized coach Ron Rivera's team for playing with “no intensity or fire" in a 40-20 loss Thursday night to the Chicago Bears, a club that hadn’t won a game in nearly a full year. By the time Sam Howell led the hosts to their initial first down, nearly 2 1/2 minutes into the second quarter, Chicago (1-4) was already ahead 17-0. At halftime, the tally was 27-3, and the Bears had outgained the Commanders 307-84 in total yards. Afterward, the Commanders forced the Bears to punt for the first time all evening. Later, with a chance to cut the deficit to seven with under 5 1/2 minutes left, Slye missed a 46-yard attempt.

That was the biggest challenge, particularly given what was going on in the world. Would you say sometimes the biggest challenge is — and I have it — imposter syndrome? I think that's probably the biggest thing is that, you know, CEO or any other role, you're not one person; you're not in it yourself. Economists from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago predict inflation will cool without a recession. "That model implies larger effects of monetary policy and faster policy transmission than other empirical models," the economists said. So far, based on the analysis, tighter policy has resulted in 5.4 percentage points in the level of real GDP and 7.1 percentage points in CPI. That represents about 65% and 75% of the total tightening effects on the levels of real GDP and CPI, respectively, that will occur, according to the model. Policy has reduced total hours worked by about 4 percentage points, or about 40% of the total effect that is ultimately projected.

An IT manager was asked to delete surveillance footage at Mar-a-Lago, the Justice Department alleged. That footage was alleged to show Donald Trump's aide moving boxes of classified documents. The IT manager struck a cooperation deal and testified before a federal grand jury. A cooperation agreement generally requires an individual to assist a criminal investigation in exchange for not being prosecuted. The indictment alleges that De Oliveira, Mar-a-Lago's property manager, told Taveras — identified in court papers as "Trump Employee 4" — that "the boss" wanted surveillance footage deleted.

But aside from simply skirting a recession, it’s not obvious what the economy would look like in a soft landing. And who even declares that the Fed has officially defied the odds and achieved a soft landing? The main aspect of a soft landing, according to economists, is the absence of a recession, which is determined by the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER.) In a soft landing, the job market has to remain intact. The other key feature of a soft landing is for the Fed to successfully control inflation, but that’s open to some interpretation.
