Assisted suicide is currently illegal in Britain and carries a prison sentence of up to 14 years. The resurrection of Notre Dame – the treasured Gothic gem in the heart of Paris struck by a devastating fire in 2019 – has been a closely guarded secret. Few had seen the meticulous work of architects, artisans and master craftspeople who have carefully brought the cathedral back to life. Many will remember watching in horror five years ago as bright orange flames engulfed the 860-year-old Gothic cathedral, its famed spire toppling from the Paris skyline. At the time, Macron vowed the beloved building would be restored and set an ambitious deadline of five years. Fast forward 2,055 days, the seemingly impossible has been achieved and the €700 million ($737 million) restoration is complete.

CNN —The Chicago Bears fired head coach Matt Eberflus following the team’s disastrous Thanksgiving day loss to the Detroit Lions to extend its losing streak to six games. With 32 seconds left in the game and one timeout remaining, the Bears needed a field goal to force overtime. Instead, Eberflus watched the seconds tick off the clock without calling a timeout, and the Bears only managed to get one play off before the clock ran out. After the calamitous ending to the game, Eberflus said he was “taking the blame” but defended his handling of the situation. Earlier this month, Brown was elevated to offensive coordinator following the firing of Shane Waldron.

After an emotive and at times impassioned debate, Britain’s lawmakers on Friday voted to allow assisted dying for terminally ill patients in England and Wales under strict conditions, opening the way to one of the most profound social changes in the country in decades. By 330 votes to 275, members of Parliament gave their support to a bill that would permit doctors to help some terminally ill patients to end their lives. Friday’s vote was not the final say on the matter for Parliament, as it will now be scrutinized in parliamentary committees and amendments to the bill may be put forward. The new legislation would apply to a narrow group: Applicants would have to be over 18, diagnosed with a terminal illness and have been given no more than six months to live. Two doctors and a judge would be required to give their approval, and the fatal drugs would have to be self-administered.
