CNN —A stowaway evaded multiple airport security checkpoints and flew aboard a Delta Airlines flight from New York to Paris Tuesday evening, authorities said – a shocking breach that raised serious alarm over airport security. Passengers weren’t alerted to the stowaway on Delta flight 264 from New York’s JFK International Airport to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport until the plane landed in Paris, said Rob Jackson, who was a passenger on the flight. “Apparently, she hid in a lavatory all the way at the rear of the aircraft when we departed JFK,” Jackson told CNN. She has a Russian passport and will soon be sent back to the United States, according to an airport official in Paris. “Nothing is of greater importance than matters of safety and security,” a Delta spokesperson said in a statement.

CNN —An Arizona man was arrested Monday after allegedly threatening to kill President-elect Donald Trump in a series of Facebook videos, including one in which he appears to hold up an AR-15-style rifle, according to court documents. Court documents did not directly identify Trump, only referring to him as “Individual 1.” Court documents identify “Individual 1” as a public figure, former president and the current president-elect. Last Thursday, according to court documents, Tamayo-Torres said in a video posted on Facebook, “[Individual 1] you’re gonna die, [Individual 1], your son’s gonna die. Tamayo-Torres posted a video on August 23 from Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, where Trump held an afternoon rally. — As President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming administration solidifies its plan for mass deportations, local law enforcement agencies are preparing to ramp up a controversial program that allows them to partner with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It authorizes ICE to delegate to state and local law enforcement officers the ability to perform certain functions of an immigration officer. According to ICE, as of May 2024, law enforcement agencies in 21 states participated in the program. Other critics have also said the 287(g) program merely serves as a political messaging tool for conservative sheriffs. Earlier this month, the Los Angeles City Council passed an ordinance that prohibits the use of city resources in immigration enforcement.

WASHINGTON — A former FBI informant whose false claims about President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden were at "the heart" of the Republican impeachment inquiry against the president has now been indicted on tax charges. Alexander Smirnov, the former FBI informant charged with lying to the FBI about President Joe Biden and his son Hunter, has now been indicted on 10 separate tax-related charges. The charges against Smirnov, who had been a confidential human source for the FBI since 2010, were brought by David Weiss, the special counsel on the Hunter Biden case, which resulted in convictions on gun charges in June and tax charges in September. Before Smirnov was indicted, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, said his claims were "the heart" of Republicans' impeachment inquiry against the president. TEL AVIV — The Israeli government failed in its “primary duty to protect its citizens” in the lead-up to and during the Oct. 7, terrorist attacks, according to an Israeli civilian report released Tuesday. Some 1,200 people were killed and 250 taken hostage during the attacks as Hamas fighters infiltrated Israel from southern Gaza and launched thousands of rockets. Traffic infractions against Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill — which escalated to a tense police confrontation caught on video two months ago — were summarily dismissed on Monday when officers didn't come to court, records showed. Bystanders recorded video of Hill lying face down on the ground as officers placed his hands behind his back and appeared to cuff him. At least two Dolphins teammates, tight end Jonnu Smith and defensive lineman Calais Campbell, were driving by, saw Hill pulled over and stopped to help. All of those Dolphins made it to their Sept. 8 season opener, won by Miami, 20-17, over the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars. “If I wasn’t Tyreek Hill, Lord knows, I probably would have been, like, worst-case scenario, I would have been shot or would have been locked up” and “put behind bars, you know, for a simple speeding ticket,” Hill told NBC News a day after the incident.

Over 18,000 people have registered online to run for Supreme Court seats and federal judgeships in Mexico’s contentious new selection process, officials said Monday. The ruling party pushed through a constitutional reform in September to make all federal judges stand for election, replacing the system where court employees and lawyers mainly move up through the ranks. Now, candidates for Supreme Court seats and federal judgeships need only a law degree, a grade point average of 3.2, “five years of professional experience” and five letters of recommendation from neighbors or friends. According to the plan, evaluation committees will have just over a month to review thousands of resumes and whittle the field to about 10 candidates or less for each of the 881 judgeships and nine seats on the Supreme Court. Some critics argue that the current justice system, which is riddled with nepotism, corruption and a lack of accountability, needs to be changed.
