A French town is buying hundreds of fleece jackets to help children to keep warm in their classrooms. Mayor Gabriel Daube said temperatures in public buildings are set to fall to 19 degrees. European countries are adopting measures to cope with the looming energy crisis this winter. The mayor of Périers, a small town in the north-west of the country, discussed the plan on French radio station France Bleu. He added that 19 degrees was bearable, but if it becomes very cold then fleece jackets would be useful for children in classrooms.

The collection, which was called sherpa fleece jackets and vests, will now be called “pile” fleece, as will all of the company's fleece products moving forward.
