While charging and fueling trucks cost the same, other cars and their electric counterparts differ. It's not yet cheaper to charge some electric cars than to fuel them with gas, a new study suggests. It's not yet cheaper to charge many electric cars than it would be to fuel their gas-powered counterparts up with gas, a new study indicates. Trucks cost about the same to fuel and charge, while entry and midlevel cars and SUVs cost more to charge at home and in public than they do to fuel at a gas station, the group found. Luxury-segment EVs may cost less to charge at home than their gas counterparts would cost to fuel.

But the automaker is having a hard time moving its inventory of Mach-E and Lightning EVs. Ford dealerships are selling fewer Ford EVs than they were this time last year, per Cloud Theory. Erich Merkle, Ford's head of US sales analysis, said EV sales were up nearly 12% through June. He also said the unsold Mach-E inventory wasn't just sitting on dealer lots because it spent more time in transit. Rising inventories and price-cutting could represent only a short-term pause in EV market growth. If production of EVs continues to outpace demand, automakers will have to choose between slashing prices and profit margins, or slowing assembly lines. More than 90 new EV models are expected to hit the U.S. market through 2026, according to AutoForecast Solutions. In a statement, Volkswagen's U.S. sales arm said "we have seen some softening in EV sales in the U.S. recently" as supply chain bottlenecks have eased, allowing for increased production. Wakefield said it is too soon to declare that U.S. EV demand has hit a plateau.

But many customers still witness challenges during and after checkout, including false declines and fraud. Below are four common checkout mistakes that enterprise e-commerce businesses make and how to avoid them. If those thresholds are too conservative, they can lead to false declines; if they're too liberal, they become more vulnerable to fraud. E-commerce merchants lost an estimated $11.1 billion in false declines last year. The machine learning models can distinguish between legitimate and fraudulent transactions to reduce false declines.

Much like a crossword, a translation isn’t finished until all the answers are present and correct, with each conditioning the others. Below are two attempts to show the thought processes involved in the kind of translation I do. Nobody would say “the truth, the truth, the truth” in English. Without it, the translation is faithful to the meaning of the Spanish clause, but it feels stale, spiritless, not faithful to the voice.

In the world of business, multinationals from Iberdrola to Siemens Energy are also looking to make plays in green hydrogen. The DOE adds that more research is required to "analyze the trade-offs between the hydrogen production options and the hydrogen delivery options when considered together as a system." "You produce the hydrogen, the green hydrogen, and then you would synthesize it into ammonia with nitrogen," he said. Despite some clearly big obstacles, partnerships and programs related to the supply and distribution of green hydrogen are starting to take shape. Elsewhere, German firm Enertrag says it's been "operating a tanker and transport trailer to deliver large quantities of green hydrogen to customers" since 2021.

The Africans fighting on Russia’s front line in Ukraine

In journeying to Russia, Tarimo was following the route of many young Africans, including future heads of state, since the 1960s. Tarimo also ended up treading the path of a handful of other Africans who took up arms for Wagner in Ukraine. The presidents of South Africa and Zambia are now among a group of African leaders seeking to mediate between Russia and Ukraine. In November last year, his family learned he too had died in Ukraine fighting for Wagner. He said that, like Tarimo, Nyirenda cast his desire to join Wagner as repayment for Soviet and Russian support of African anti-colonial movements.

After Ford signed a deal to get its owners access to Tesla charging, it increased Mach-E inventory. Ford tripled its advertised inventory of the Mach-E electric SUV to a total of 11,000 cars, according to S&P Global Mobility. Experts say this is a sign Ford is optimistic about the Tesla partnership boosting demand. Ford aggressively grew its stock of Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles after signing a groundbreaking deal with Elon Musk giving its customers access to Tesla charging stations, according to S&P Global Mobility. Bolstering Mach-E inventory might be Ford's way of "perhaps maximizing the marketing impact of its shared-charger arrangement with Tesla," the S&P Global Mobility note said.

[1/5] Participants react with Pride rainbow flags as they attend the Badilika festival to celebrate the LGBT rights in Nairobi, Kenya, June 11, 2023. Some regional lawmakers frame the issue as an almost existential battle to save African values and sovereignty, which they say have been battered by Western pressure to capitulate on gay rights. Spokespeople for the Kenyan presidency and government didn't respond to requests for comment about the proposed bill. Several called for legislation to strengthen penalties for same-sex acts, including the deputy majority leader, who said gay sex could be punished by hanging. President William Ruto, an evangelical Christian, has criticized a February supreme court decision allowing an LGBT rights group to register as a non-governmental organization.

During the streak, Tesla shares rose by more than 40%, boosting its market value to roughly $814 billion. The rally was kicked off by news of the adoption of Tesla's charging system by legacy U.S. automakers Ford (F.N) and General Motors (GM.N). Wedbush compared Tesla's share gains to Amazon, which for years defied many investor expectations that its stock would eventually fall. Tesla shares slumped in 2022, losing 65% of their value, and helping the shorts make a mint. The 13-day rally cost short sellers more than $7 billion in mark-to-market losses, taking year-to-date losses to nearly $12.7 billion, according to S3 Partners.

The sky-high valuations seen in tech stocks due to the promise of artificial intelligence aren't so "extreme" when looking at prior innovation cycles. "The relative forward-P/Es of today's AI leadership are still a far cry from what was seen at the peaks of past innovation waves," said managing partner Michael Goldstein in a Tuesday note." In fact, they sit close to the level reached a year before the tops." For AI, he examined holdings within the Roundhill Generative AI and Technology ETF (CHAT) , which includes Nvidia, Microsoft , Alphabet , Baidu and more. While valuations for these stocks appear "rooted in reality," Goldstein noted that a correction isn't out of the question.

Ms. Friesdat and other activists like her fear that their work may become too closely tied to conspiracy theorists and Mr. Trump’s cause, making potential allies, like progressives, wary of joining the fight. “You sow a seed of doubt, and that will grow and fester into a conspiracy theory,” said Tim Weninger, a computer science professor at the University of Notre Dame who studies misinformation on social media. It is now happening in New York, where officials are considering certifying new voting machines made by Election Systems & Software, a manufacturer based in Omaha. The company has been targeted in Mr. Trump’s voting fraud narrative, alongside competitors like Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic. Yet, ES&S and its machines have also come under scrutiny by election activists and security experts.

Phil Rosen: The MBA's Purchase Applications Payment Index just hit a new high in April. For new home buyers, this is the worst situation since the end of the Great Recession. Current homeowners that were lucky enough to get a 2.75% interest rate in 2022 are in a great position, but for new buyers looking to buy a first home, or those looking to move to another home, it's a very daunting proposition. In his view, monthly payments for first-time buyers are up roughly one-third compared to last year — and that's going to keep buyers on the sidelines and weigh on demand.

Consider: On Wednesday, the price-to-earnings ratio for Club holding Nvidia was 66.1 based on full-year 2024 estimates, and 49.1 based on 2025 projections. As a result, the valuation, which is simply price divided by the forward estimates, declined materially. Marvell shares soared 28% on Friday after the semiconductor company reported an earnings beat Thursday after the bell. But the update we got from Nvidia management this week shows Nvidia is actually a better value Friday than it was a week ago. CEO Stephen Saad discussed the future of the pharmaceutical sector in Africa, and what lessons Aspen Pharmacare has learned from the Covid-19 pandemic, with CNN’s Eleni Giokos. During the pandemic, we’ve seen a spotlight on the inequalities that exist on the continent in the pharmaceutical sector. Aspen has had a very strong commercial presence across Africa and now you’re moving up the value chain. When Covid came and Africa needed vaccines, over 90% of the vaccines were supplied by India — and that wasn’t great. If it hadn’t been for Aspen, there would have been no vaccines made in Africa for the continent.

Leaving Dr. S made it possible to imagine going back — both humbled and emboldened by our mutual capacity to abide the separation. I was gone only for a little more than a year, and when I went back to Dr. S, we saw each other once a week.

May 8 (Reuters) - Vanguard Group, the largest provider of mutual funds, has secured regulatory approval to continue to own big stakes in U.S. power utilities, overcoming Republican concerns over its environmental, social and governance (ESG) policies. Regulators had previously allowed Vanguard to exceed that antitrust limit on the basis that this would not interfere with the utilities' operations. Vanguard countered that its funds do not exert control over the decisions of the utilities. Vanguard reiterated in a statement on Monday that it leaves "management decisions to companies and policy decisions to policymakers." A representative for Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita, one of the leaders of the group challenging the FERC extension, said he would comment in coming days.
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, a brand called Lu Style opened four new restaurants in the last three years in Beijing and Shanghai. Since Lu Style launched in 2016, more people no longer focus on just being able to eat, said Tian Junfeng, director of operations. Tian said Lu Style will be focused on improving customer service in the coming months. The 2023 rankings selected 304 restaurants — most of which were in China, including Lu Style. Two Lu Style locations have one Michelin star each, and the France-based guide includes more than 400 restaurants in mainland China.

The first novel was probably Murasaki Shikibu’s ‘Tale of Genji,’ written in the 11th century. The last one that mattered, closing a millennium’s loop, was probably Zadie Smith’s ‘White Teeth,’ published in 2000. What’s come since has been the death rattle, and remixes of that death rattle.”Those weren’t, you might have guessed, words from Siri. Samuel Richardson, in the 18th century, wondered if the novel had said what it had to say. The fire has been stirred under these questions thanks to the sudden arrival of sophisticated artificial intelligence chatbots, notably ChatGPT.
