The Infinite Monkey Theorem hypothesizes that, given a typewriter and an infinite amount of time, a monkey could in theory produce the full works of William Shakespeare. According to Open Source Shakespeare, a web page containing all of the bard’s plays, poems and sonnets, there are 884,421 words in the entire works of Shakespeare. While the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust says the writer introduced more than 1,700 words into the English language, "banana" was not one of them. Other academics were less incredulous, suggesting that the paper was a wild goose chase — a phrase itself invented by Shakespeare. It may be time for the theorem to exit popular usage — pursued, unsuccessfully, by a monkey.

China's Ministry of Commerce on Thursday emphasized the country's efforts to restrict illegal exports of military goods to Russia as it seeks to cast Beijing as a neutral player amid the ongoing war in Ukraine. The term refers to goods or technologies that can be used for civilian as well as military purposes. China on Saturday unveiled an export control law for dual-use items, set to take effect Dec. 1. A Black man who was fatally shot four years ago by a now-fired white police officer in Columbus, Ohio, complied with commands and was wrongly killed as he walked out of a garage, prosecutors said Thursday. “Officer Coy was not justified in shooting Andre Hill,” prosecutor Renee Amlin told the jury. Hill then walked toward the officers while holding his cellphone when Coy fired his weapon. Detweiler said she and Coy walked toward the dark garage and had “no idea” why Hill was inside it. Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther has said the shooting was unwarranted and that officers on the scene failed to provide medical assistance.
