To escape high rents, he moved into an ambulance he bought off of Facebook Marketplace for $9,000. Smith spent $8,000 converting the ambulance into a mobile home and vlogs about traveling in it. Living in an ambulance has been very affordable because I don't have to pay rent and have limited expenses. From what I've seen and heard, I think a lot more young people are interested in different lifestyles. I think I'm really lucky to be in the position where I can be an inspiration to others.

Instagram is testing a "Close Friends" feature for the feed, the company confirmed. The Meta-owned platform is starting to test a feature that will allow users to post content in their feed to a "Close Friends" audience — similar to the Close Friends feature the app rolled out for stories. "We're testing the ability for people in select countries to share feed posts with their Close Friends," a Meta spokesperson told Insider in an email. Coming to Instagram 🔥 Close Friends feed post. Instagram's push to expand "Close Friends" could signal a bigger change in how the company is thinking about what users want.

Elon Musk's X tells users it could use their posts to train artificial intelligence models. AdvertisementAdvertisementElon Musk's X has changed its policies to allow information posted by users to be used to train its AI models. It is not clear how it will use the information from X and which AI models this relates to. Meta, which is also developing its own generative AI models, recently introduced an option for Facebook users to opt out of sharing their data to train its AI models. But this comes with limitations, per Gizmodo, and it's not guaranteed that all of a user's information will be removed from its AI training databases.

Elon Musk says X will strip ability to block accounts
  + stars: | 2023-08-19 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
'X' logo is seen reflected on an apartment window across the street from the headquarters of the messaging platform X, formerly known as Twitter, in downtown San Francisco, California, U.S., July 30, 2023. The block function on X allows a user to restrict specific accounts from contacting them, seeing their posts or following them. "Block is going to be deleted as a 'feature', except for DMs," Musk said in a post on the platform, referring to direct messages. Removing or limiting the block feature might bring X into conflict with guidelines incorporated by Apple's (AAPL.O) App Store and Alphabet's (GOOGL.O) Google Play. X, Google and Apple did not immediately reply to requests for comment.

Elon Musk says the block feature will be "deleted" from X, formerly Twitter. Musk's posts suggest X users will only be able to block others from direct messaging them. The platform's owner, Elon Musk, announced plans to do away with X's block feature in a series of posts on Friday. Musk's posts on Friday aren't the first time the billionaire has expressed his distaste for the block feature — he said something similar in June. You will still be able to mute accounts and block users for DMs — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) August 18, 2023It's unclear when this change will go into effect at X.

Users of X, formerly known as Twitter, will no longer be able to block comments from unwanted followers, according to a post by X owner Elon Musk on Friday, eliminating what's long been viewed as a key safety feature. "Block is going to be deleted as a 'feature', except for DMs," Musk wrote Friday. The mute feature just keeps the individual user from seeing the undesired responses, but doesn't eliminate them from others' feeds. Twitter users have also long employed the block feature in boycotts and to avoid seeing ads from specific brands or promoters on the platform. Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, an investor in the new Twitter alongside Musk, said in a post that the company should focus its attention elsewhere.

The federal prosecutors who charged former President Donald J. Trump this month with conspiring to overturn the 2020 election got access this winter to a trove of so-called direct messages that Mr. Trump sent others privately through his Twitter account, according to court papers unsealed on Tuesday. While it remained unclear what sorts of information the messages contained and who exactly may have written them, it was a revelation that there were private messages associated with the Twitter account of Mr. Trump, who has famously been cautious about using written forms of communications in his dealings with aides and allies. The court papers disclosing that prosecutors in the office of the special counsel, Jack Smith, obtained direct messages from Mr. Trump’s Twitter account emerged from a fight with Twitter over the legality of executing a warrant on the former president’s social media. Days after the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, the platform shut down his account. The papers included transcripts of hearings in Federal District Court in Washington in February during which Judge Beryl A. Howell asserted that Mr. Smith’s office had sought Mr. Trump’s direct messages — or DMs — from Twitter as part of a search warrant it executed on the account in January.

Instagram's new app, Threads, has dominated the discourse around Meta since its July 5 launch. With the launch of Threads, Instagram and its top executive, Adam Mosseri, have been enjoying the limelight. Mark Zuckerberg was "by far the most convicted" about launching Threads as a separate app, Mosseri said on the podcast. "But, the thing is, we're not a messaging app," Mosseri noted. Mosseri has a bias for simplicity and said he recognizes that the Instagram app is overrun with too many features.
