CNN —Texas Sen. Ted Cruz will win reelection to a third term, CNN projects, defeating Democratic challenger Rep. Colin Allred and denying Democrats one of their best chances to mitigate potential losses elsewhere. The Longhorn State has long been a Republican stronghold, with the GOP winning every statewide election there since 1994. Allred, a former NFL linebacker who defeated GOP Rep. Pete Sessions to win his House seat in 2018, was seen as a viable challenger. He attacked Cruz for voting against the bipartisan border deal and featured testimonials from border law enforcement officers in his own ads. Critics have said that school choice puts public education at risk by diverting funds away from public schools and that some school choice initiatives have disproportionately helped wealthier families. Colorado's Amendment 80 establishes a constitutionally protected right to school choice for children from kindergarten through 12th grade. If the law is repealed, it would get rid of the state's school choice program. Altman responded that open source "plays an important role in the ecosystem and there are great open source models in the world." The comments from Altman follow a year in which OpenAI has received criticism for no longer open-sourcing its AI models. "There is no single open source AI definition, and defining it is a challenge because previous open source definitions do not encompass the complexities of today's rapidly advancing AI models," the spokesperson said.

The final undecided voters could sway the election. But in a narrowly divided presidential election, voters who have put off making a decision until the last minute could find themselves with the power to decide the future of the country. Late-deciding voters broke for Trump in 2020 and 2016, with some analysts and strategists in both campaigns crediting them for electing Trump eight years ago. And it was true in 2020, when the pandemic and debates played an oversize role in the election featuring Trump and Joe Biden.
