Clorox says production sites back up after August cyberattack
  + stars: | 2023-09-29 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
Sept 29 (Reuters) - Clorox (CLX.N) said on Friday all its manufacturing facilities resumed operations and it is ramping up production to restock inventories after a cyberattack last month disrupted the bleach maker's business. Clorox began transitioning back to automated order processing earlier this week, the producer of Pine-Sol cleaner said, adding that it would also maximize shipping and was working to fully restore operations back to normal. It comes after the company last week warned of a material impact on its first-quarter results due to shipping delays caused by the incident. Cybersecurity attacks have also hit other companies in recent weeks. Reporting by Deborah Sophia in Bengaluru; Editing by Shweta AgarwalOur Standards: The Thomson Reuters Trust Principles.

Here's a rapid-fire update on all stocks in Jim Cramer's Charitable Trust, the portfolio we use for the CNBC Investing Club. But for investors who haven't bought into its steep pullback, it's reasonable to buy some shares at current levels around $146.50 each. Unless you believe inflation is going to keep raging, making Microsoft's price-to-earnings multiple too high, then this stock is a buy. Nvidia (NVDA): Investors who don't own Nvidia yet should use its recent weakness to start a position, Jim said. Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD): We decided to buy additional Pioneer shares Thursday as the stock fell more than 2%.

That means most current executives, who came up in the era of easy money, are unfamiliar with the complexities of running a bank under today’s conditions. Some CEOs are deciding that they need to make drastic, expensive and often unpopular institutional changes to help them keep up. Banks currently have strong managers, but not a lot of strong leaders, said David Schiff, senior partner at West Monroe. Prior to the current interest rate hikes, banks had been operating with low-interest, stable rates for nearly two decades, he said. A new market disruption is coming to grocery store shelves. In the coming weeks, just as flu season gets underway, shoppers could be peering into depleted spaces where their Clorox cleaning supplies once stood. In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday, the Clorox Company said it had identified unauthorized activity on some of its information technology systems and it was forced to process orders manually. “The cybersecurity attack damaged portions of the company’s IT infrastructure, which caused wide-scale disruption of Clorox’s operations,” it said. Clorox, a publicly traded company, said it expected to return to automated processing of orders next week.

Cyberattack at Clorox is disrupting production
  + stars: | 2023-09-18 | by ( Jordan Valinsky | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +1 min
New York CNN —A cyberattack at Clorox is causing wide-scale disruption of the company’s operations, hampering its ability to make its cleaning materials, Clorox said Monday. Clorox said some of its products are now in short supply as it has struggled to meet consumer demand during the disruption. Clorox said it immediately took action to stop the attack, including reducing its operations. Still, Clorox has not been able to get its manufacturing operations back up to full speed. “Clorox has already resumed production at the vast majority of its manufacturing sites and expects the ramp up to full production to occur over time,” the company said.

Clorox on Monday warned of a material financial hit from ongoing production disruptions caused by a cyberattack last month. It expects to start bringing systems back up to speed next week, and will ramp up to full production "over time." Now, a month later, the attack is still causing "widescale disruption" to the companies operations, according to a Clorox securities filing. The breach at Clorox comes as Las Vegas casino companies MGM and Caesars reckon with their own cyberattacks. MGM also warned of a potential material impact on its finances.

REUTERS/Andrew Kelly Acquire Licensing RightsSept 18 (Reuters) - Pine-Sol maker Clorox (CLX.N) said on Monday its first-quarter results could see a "material impact" from a cybersecurity attack last month that damaged portions of its IT infrastructure and caused widescale disruption to its operations. The household staples maker said on Aug. 14 that unauthorized activity on its computer network forced it to take its systems offline, causing delays in order processing. The company did not give a breakdown of the financial impact and said it was still evaluating the situation. Clorox shares were down more than 2% in premarket trading. Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesh Arora told CNBC's Jim Cramer on Monday that companies need integrated, modernized cybersecurity systems in order to protect themselves from "bad actors" who are getting faster at gaining access to sensitive information. Arora said the problem isn't that companies lack cybersecurity vendors. "It's important for us to make sure we're ready to deflect the stuff in hours, not in days," Arora continued. Palo Alto Networks' stock was up nearly 15% by Monday's close, likely driven by a Friday after-hours earnings report that showed the company's revenue increased 26% compared with the year-ago quarter. Palo Alto Networks' revenue came in at $1.95 billion, slightly below $1.96 billion consensus estimates, according to Refinitiv.

In one quarter — one off-cycle quarter that didn't feature a no new iPhone — Apple (AAPL) delivered a whopping $81.8 billion in sales. I came up with "own it, don't trade it" for Apple because there have been so many quarters like this one. The people who sold Apple shares on Friday no doubt sold it on their Apple devices. I would be more worried if Apple's customer satisfaction went down than I am that iPhone sales lagged. Four thousand U.S. dollars are counted out by a banker counting currency at a bank in Westminster, Colorado November 3, 2009. On Tuesday, Fitch became the second major agency, after Standard & Poor's in 2011, to strip the United States of its prized triple-A credit rating. Jefferies notes that, with two of the three major agencies listing U.S. debt at AA, U.S. bonds no longer count as AAA in some key indices. However, according to Jefferies, most investors have moved away from some of the stricter criteria around holding triple-A rated debt, given Germany is the only large issuer left with that rating. Chart shows that the U.S.'s long-term foreign currency rating was downgraded by Fitch to AA+ in 2023, following a similar move from S&P in 2011.

But major food companies, from Nestlé to Unilever, increased prices much more than that. The world's biggest food companies spent the first half of this year raising prices, according to several earnings reports released this week. Some external factors have impacted the costs that major food companies pay to produce their products. It's especially easy for global food companies to raise prices, given that a few companies own most of the brands in many US grocery stores. But there's some evidence that consumers aren't willing to put up with higher food prices indefinitely.

Shopify is going to extreme lengths to stop its workers from attending pointless meetings. This push to keep workers out of meetings is to free up time so they can, according to the company's COO, "get shit done." But here's the thing about meetings, even "pointless" ones, and especially for a company with a lot of remote workers like Shopify: they give us an opportunity to chat. Watercoolers are hard to recreate in virtual form, but if they're going to be anywhere, it's in scheduled videocalls — in other words, meetings. Better mental health has been closely linked to productivity, so perhaps addressing loneliness would be a better use of a company's resources than discouraging meetings.

Consumer goods makers say the price hikes are necessary, and that they have taken a hit to margins over the past two years. Some companies such as Clorox (CLX.N) have even begun to ease off the hikes to protect sales volumes as input costs fall. "In the U.S. in particular, these pressures are more acute than in Europe," Janus Henderson portfolio manager Luke Newman told Reuters. U.S. consumer strength has begun weakening, "and that's bad news for the consumer companies," Barclays analyst Iain Simpson said. Still, cost inflation has chipped away at margins, which have broadly fallen 2-4 percentage points over the past two years for the consumer goods industry.
