New York CNN —Airbnb has undermined users’ safety by scaling back its work to remove extremists from its platform, a former contractor alleged in a new whistleblower complaint. “Airbnb spent much of 2023 scaling back and undermining the work of its team tasked with removing individuals affiliated with dangerous and extremist organizations from the platform,” Whistleblower Aid, the organization representing Hernandez, said in a statement. Airbnb disputed Hernandez’s claims, saying that it continues to enforce against members of dangerous or extremist organizations. And in the following years, it pointed to that pledge when removing users associated with extremist organizations. Prior to her work at Airbnb, Hernandez worked as a researcher for the Terrorism Research and Analysis Consortium, an organization that tracks terrorist and hate groups, according to Whistleblower Aid.

CNN —Senate Republicans on Tuesday blocked an attempt by Democrats to pass a bill to ban bump stocks in the wake of a recent Supreme Court ruling. The bill would enact a federal ban on the sale of bump stock devices. Bump stocks allow a shooter to convert a semi-automatic rifle into a weapon that can fire at a rate of hundreds of rounds a minute. The Supreme Court on Friday struck down a federal ban on bump stocks approved by former President Donald Trump, the latest opinion from the conservative court rolling back firearm regulations. While some Republicans support a ban on bump stocks, the issue has divided GOP senators in the aftermath of the high court ruling.

But the next bottleneck in AI infrastructure — and one to invest in — is networking, according to tech analysts. An increase in investment in generative AI model training and inference will drive the AI networking spending growth of 34% over the next five years, said the firm. "Networking creates a performance bottleneck for generative AI model development," Morningstar's analysts said. "Well-positioned networking firms are a great second derivative play to invest in generative AI," they added. Stocks to play the trend Marvell Technology is Morningstar's top pick to play the generative AI networking trend, with the firm saying it is "attractively undervalued" currently and giving investors an "immediately opportunity" to tap rising generative AI networking investment.

From AppleBy adding artificial intelligence features to Siri, Apple's smart assistant will be able to do more, Apple said. Those changes start with Siri's language recognition capabilities, which can detect when users correct themselves mid-sentence. Other examples of actions users will be able to do with Siri include asking it to add a certain photo to a draft email; directing Siri to send photos from a recent event to a specific contact; or to share a summary of meeting notes in an email to a colleague. All of that is possible, Apple said, because Apple Intelligence grabs information about you from your photos, calendar events, files and messages — including PDFs of concert tickets and links shared by contacts. It will also be able to search through your photos for information that you're trying to put into an online form and add it for you, like taking the data from a photo of your driver's license and automatically inserting it into a form.

His body was found on a beach in Agia Marina, said the mayor of Symi, Eleftherios Papakalodoukas. The authorities also used dogs and drones, and the Greek coast guard also joined the effort as fears escalated that Mr. Mosley had drifted out to sea. Mr. Mosley, 67, a BBC journalist, had arrived on Tuesday on Symi, part of the Dodecanese islands in the Aegean Sea, for a weeklong trip. When hours had passed with no sign of Mr. Mosley, his wife, Clare Bailey Mosley, reported him missing to the police.

And no product is more important to Apple than the iPhone. New AI features that provide a compelling reason to upgrade when Apple rolls out the iPhone 16 in the fall could boost the company at a crucial time. Here’s the thing: No matter how Monday goes, Apple isn’t losing its status as a tech powerhouse anytime soon. The latter scenario — assuming the features are compelling — could spur the next major iPhone upgrade cycle and have ripple effects for the entire company. “That’s the key: if it’s compelling and not backward-compatible, Apple will have the first upgrade cycle in four years,” Luria said.

Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins crossed over to vote with Democrats in favor of advancing the bill. Katie Britt and Ted Cruz introduced a bill called the IVF Protection Act in May, and Republican Sen. Joni Ernst has put forward a separate bill to promote access to contraception. “We will have an alternative that will make very clear that Republicans are for contraception,” Senate GOP Whip John Thune said. Many companies are in the AI infrastructure buildout phase right now. That's because, in order to enable AI applications, companies have to make the switch from "general purpose computing to accelerated computing," she said. "You can't run AI on traditional compute, it would be prohibitively expensive, and far too energy intensive," said Pleydell-Bouverie. That's a 35% increase from last year, she said, and all this incremental investment is being directed to AI initiatives. And the world is "only in the first five minutes of this AI infrastructure buildout," she added.

CNN —The House voted Tuesday to pass a bill to sanction International Criminal Court officials – House Republicans’ response to the court seeking an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It is unlikely that the Senate will take up the sanctions bill. The House passed the bill in a 247 to 155 vote, with 42 Democrats joining Republicans in support. A decision to seek arrest warrants doesn’t immediately mean an individual is guilty, but is the first stage in a process that could lead to a lengthy trial. “The Administration is deeply concerned about the ICC Prosecutor’s heedless rush to apply for arrest warrants for senior Israeli officials.

Cadence Design Systems , a U.S. company that provides electronic design software to chip makers, has been "completely missed" by investors, according to Clare Pleydell-Bouverie, fund manager at Liontrust. Liontrust's Global Technology Fund , with $265 million in assets, is invested in both stocks with around 3.3% allocated to each as of April 30. "Cadence is going to be the key enabler of this, and that's been completely missed by the market." Pleydell-Bouverie also pointed out that Cadence benefits from a "dual growth driver" — companies designing more chips to bring AI capabilities to consumers and Cadence using AI to improve its own chip design process and efficiency. Analysts remain broadly bullish on the stock, however , with 67% rating it as a buy and 28% maintaining a hold rating.

Sunak will likely point to falling inflation and a strengthening economy as proof that his plan to “restore economic stability” is working. Here’s what data shows has happened to wages, living standards, the value of the pound, house prices and waiting times for medical treatment on the NHS. “Poor income growth has been an unfortunate feature of economic life in the UK over the last 15 years. On average, households now spend more than 29% of their after-tax income on rent, up from 24% in 2010, according to Zoopla, a property company. NHS waiting lists have grown steadily since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, contributing to worker shortages in the UK.

New York CNN —A new Utah lawsuit accuses TikTok of enabling the sexual exploitation of children through its livestreaming feature. TikTok live allows users to post live videos to the platform, where they can interact with viewers and respond to comments in real time. It also claims that TikTok has insufficient age verification and enforcement measures to ensure the app is being used safely. TikTok has repeatedly pushed back on claims that it is harmful to children’s wellbeing, saying it supports young users with various tools such as automatic time limits. The new Utah lawsuit, which is heavily redacted, claims TikTok has been aware of the misuse of its live feature but has failed to take adequate steps to address the issue.

CNN —The top four congressional leaders have formally invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address a joint meeting of Congress. The invitation comes after much speculation as additional military aid to Israel remains in question and Democrats are facing pressure from their left wing as the party remains divided over Israel’s handling of the war against Hamas. President Joe Biden on Friday laid out a three-phase proposal Israel has submitted to wind down the grinding crisis in Gaza. Less than an hour after Biden detailed the Israeli proposal, Netanyahu’s office insisted Israel would not end the war until Hamas is defeated and “all of its goals are achieved.”CNN previously reported that during a closed-door conference meeting in March, House Republicans raised the idea of inviting Netanyahu. CNN’s Kaanita Iyer, Haley Talbot, Melanie Zanona, Clare Foran, Kevin Liptak, Nikki Carvajal and Samantha Waldenberg contributed to this report.
