Historically, November is the best month of the year for the stock market, and December is third, according to the Stock Trader's Almanac. Under the surface this week, we also saw signs of a possible market rotation in the works. Rotation watch : We must look to next week's trading for confirmation that we're in the grips of a rotation or simply a head fake. Signs of the former were on display this week as the two of the biggest sector winners of the year, communication services and technology , trailed the market. Jobs, jobs, jobs : The most important release of the week comes Friday in the form of the November nonfarm payrolls report.

As a longevity researcher, I've spent the past 20 years studying the habits of people who live to 100 years old or longer, particularly the foods they eat. And in a tucked-away corner of Nicoya, Costa Rica, I may have found the world's healthiest breakfast. They stoke wood fires in clay ovens, put cauldrons of spicy beans to boil, and mix corn dough with wood ash. The beans cook slowly for about an hour to tender perfection and are then mixed with rice. Add water and stir until a soft dough forms (if the mixture won't form a soft ball of dough, add warm water in one tablespoon increments until it will).

This year, 59% retailers offer so-called "returnless" or "keep it" policies for unwanted products whose returns costs exceed their value, according to returns services firm goTRG, which surveyed 500 executives at 21 major retailers, including Walmart (WMT.N) and Amazon.com (AMZN.O). That information is "not something that retailers want out there" due to worries the policies could be abused by shoppers, he said. The firm helps retailers manage returns, which typically rise after pre-Christmas sales like Black Friday and Cyber Monday and continue beyond Christmas. The typical return costs retailers about $30. "You just can't afford to ignore it," she said of returns costs.

REUTERS/Roman Churikov/ File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsTBILISI, Nov 17 (Reuters) - Georgia's grape harvest may be over, but vineyard owner and hotelier George Piradashvili's work for the year is far from finished. At his winery in the eastern region of Khakheti, Piradashvili is boiling leftover grape juice from this year's harvest - on strings, together with flour and walnuts, to produce a signature delicacy: churchkhela. Throughout Georgia, the sticks of hard-boiled grape juice studded with walnuts hang from market stalls and shops. Chewy churchkhela sticks go some way to sweetening an otherwise heavy and often spicy diet. The grape juice must be stirred to prevent it setting too soon as it boils and thickens in great vats for hours on end - a highly physical task.

Morgan Stanley highlighted several companies that are prepared to withstand — and even benefit from —consumers' shifting preferences this holiday season, as inflationary pressures dampen shoppers' budgets this quarter. According to Morgan Stanley's proprietary monthly survey, most holiday shoppers are looking to see 30% discounts, on average, before they begin spending this holiday season. A strong holiday season should benefit the entire airline industry given the ongoing demand for air travel among consumers across income brackets, according to Morgan Stanley. "Durable goods spending has slowed and that is expected to continue into the holiday season," Wilson said in the note. Toys could emerge as "relative winner" this season as they become a more top-of-mind purchase for parents during the holiday season, analyst Megan Alexander wrote.

Seoul, South Korea CNN —An 82-year-old man in South Korea had a heart attack after choking on a piece of “live octopus,” or san-nakji, a local delicacy comprised of freshly severed – and still wriggling – tentacles. When first responders arrived on site, the man had a cardiac arrest, and they conducted CPR, the official said. San-nakji refers to a small octopus that is sliced and served raw, often eaten in South Korea’s coastal areas or seafood markets. Though the dish’s name translates to “live octopus,” this is slightly misleading – the octopus is killed before serving, with its tentacles cut into portions. San-nakji is often served with sesame oil, sesame seeds, and sometimes ginger, and has a chewy texture.

Amazon is considering an expansion into veterinary telehealth in its latest bid to compete with Walmart , which began offering the service to Walmart+ subscribers earlier this year, people familiar with the matter told CNBC. Veterinary telehealth allows pet parents to have virtual appointments with veterinarians and veterinary technicians. Earlier this year, Walmart signed a deal with veterinary telehealth provider Pawp to offer Walmart+ subscribers free access to the startup's membership for a year. Amazon could turn to Pawp to fuel a potential pet telehealth offering in time for the holiday season because Pawp has already proven it can scale with a large retailer. Amazon could also partner with one of the dozens of other pet telehealth startups on the market or build its own practice, which is what Chewy did when it began offering the service during the Covid pandemic.

The next morning we took a winding route through Eyyubiye toward one of Urfa’s great religious jewels, the Pool of Abraham. On the way Anya beelined to a carsi firin, a communal oven where customers waited by the window with pans of Urfa’s glossy peppers and eggplants to be char-roasted and handed back with chewy flatbread straight from the wood-fired stone oven. Dr. Bedlek reprised the details as we strolled around the large, rectangular stone pool where pilgrims and tourists were feeding the plump sacred fish. All about, couples posed in gaudy rented Ottoman outfits — and despite my protests, Anya pressured me into dressing up likewise. Just beyond lies the Dergah complex of a park, a rose garden and more mosques alongside a venerated small cave.

Ruckel had to make a choice: Lower the price on Amazon or ask Chewy to raise the price of his product. The company also invests in tools to help sellers offer “competitive prices,” he said. Scott Needham, who sells on Amazon and runs a product-finder tool for other Amazon sellers, said he was “surprised by some of the points that the FTC selected.”watch now“I have over the years been very critical of Amazon,” Needham told CNBC. Competitors like Shopify and Walmart are increasingly viable alternatives for many categories of sellers, Needham said, not to mention rapidly growing Chinese e=commerce companies like Temu. Among those is a greater ability for Amazon sellers to communicate with buyers, offering select customers certain promotions.

The couple, who started tinkering in their apartment kitchen in 2019 in an effort to recreate the breakfast tacos Jaramillo grew up eating, raised $180,000 from family and friends to bring their restaurant to life. That's a relatively small amount for opening a brand-new restaurant, noted May: "We were able to do it on a pretty shoestring budget." When they raised money, they didn't give up any equity, meaning Jaramillo and May own 100% of the company. "I think we both have strong entrepreneurial instincts but we don't come from a finance or a business background," said May.
