The S & P 500 suffered its first three-day decline since early September. Chief market technician Jonathan Krinsky noted a "decent probability" the broad market index could fall as much as 5% to roughly 5,500 in coming weeks. The S & P 500 has pulled back this week from record highs reached just Oct. 17. Krinsky pointed to the recent move higher in Treasury yields as the key catalyst. The remains of an unidentified missile, which Ukrainian authorities claimed to be made in North Korea, is seen at a site of a Russian strike in Kharkiv, Ukraine on January 2. China, Russia and Iran have also held four joint naval drills since 2019, and China is by far Iran’s largest energy buyer. Beijing also carefully manages its relationship with North Korea – which is almost wholly economically and diplomatically dependent on China. “Russia, North Korea, Iran is the type of grouping that China least wants to openly associate itself with,” said Tong Zhao, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Jordan Page was deeply unhappy in his 9-to-5 digital content job at a Fortune 500 company. At the beginning of this job, I'd hardly freelanced, putting all my energy into my new role. The stakes are high for Tesla when the electric vehicle giant reports results after the bell Wednesday. Analysts polled by LSEG expect the company to report earnings of 58 cents per share on $25.37 billion in revenue. The company posted adjusted earnings per share of 52 cents and revenue of $25.50 billion last quarter . Stakes are even higher for the company following an underwhelming robotaxi event earlier this month that failed to impress Wall Street analysts and investors hopeful for a turnaround. He retained an equal weight rating and $220 price target, implying shares will trade in a range from here.

Analyst Nick Lai, who has an overweight rating on the Chinese electric vehicle maker, added Xpeng to the Wall Street bank's positive catalyst watch list in a 17-page report out Sunday. This comes amid JPMorgan's forecast that EREVs and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles combined will make up about 60% of the new energy vehicle market by 2030 – almost double last year's figure. Another event that could drive the stock higher is Xpeng's third-quarter results next month, which Lai thinks will show expanded gross profit margins. Heading into 2025, Xpeng should see more volume growth, JPMorgan said, with the bank forecasting 72% volume growth in 2025. As a result, Xpeng should see positive free cash flow next year and a profit in 2026, according to Lai.

The U.S. presidential election is fast approaching, but it may not have as much an impact on markets as people may think, some investors say. History suggests the strong performance bodes well for a post-election pop into year's end. When Trump was elected in the 2016 presidential election, investors expected energy would perform well — but the subsequent two years proved unfavorable for the sector. During the 2000 election, volatility lasted for more than 30 days, through December. "We encourage investors to keep their long-term objectives in mind during periods of uncertainty and position for election related volatility," Guerra wrote.

Small-cap stocks are looking very good right now. Lower rates can boost smaller companies by allowing them to borrow money for cheaper and expand their businesses. Smaller companies are more vulnerable to economic cycles. Despite this recently strong performance, small caps are still lagging their large-cap counterparts for the year. To be sure, some on the Street are pointing to another driver for small caps: the potential of a Trump victory on Election Day.

Morgan Stanley: 16.2% Following the Fed's decision, shares advanced as investors became more optimistic about a soft landing for the U.S. economy.
