Photos of Combs' handwritten to-do list should never have been given to prosecutors, a lawyer said. "I think it's clear that this material is outside the defense defending a criminal case," the prosecutor told the judge of the to-do list excerpts. The filter team then extracted all attorney-client material before passing the remaining photographs along to the Combs prosecutors, Slavik told the judge. Combs is due back in court on Friday, when his defense team will make a third argument for bail. Prosecutors cannot refer to Combs' disputed to-do list tasks in opposing bail, the judge ordered.

There could be a misalignment in how an employee thinks they're doing and how management thinks they're doing, most likely due to a lack of feedback. These things surface when it comes time for a promotion, but they're hard to fix when you're unaware it's a problem. Ask your manager what you need to work on to move on to the next level. Gary Wang, a former executive of bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX, who testified against founder Sam Bankman-Fried, attends his sentencing on fraud charges at the United States District Court in Manhattan in New York City, U.S., November 20, 2024. Wang was also ordered to forfeit $11 billion, the same as the other co-defendants. When given the opportunity to address the court, Wang said he was deeply sorry to all the customers and investors in FTX. Roos also noted that Wang was the first FTX employee to walk through the government's door but the last to be sentenced, as the FTX criminal proceedings come to a close. In March, Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison and ordered to pay $11 billion — the harshest punishment from Judge Kaplan.

The request would follow a landmark ruling in August by Judge Amit P. Mehta of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia that found Google had illegally maintained a monopoly in online search. Judge Mehta asked the Justice Department and the states that brought the antitrust case to submit solutions by the end of Wednesday to correct the search monopoly. Beyond the sale of Chrome, the government is set to ask Judge Mehta to bar Google from entering into paid agreements with Apple and others to be the automatic search engine on smartphones and in browsers, the people said. The proposals would likely be the most significant remedies to be requested in a tech antitrust case since the Justice Department asked to break up Microsoft in 2000. If Judge Mehta adopts the proposals, they will set the tone for a string of other antitrust cases that challenge the dominance of tech behemoths including Apple, Amazon and Meta.

Simply put, the leading maker of AI chips again fell victim to the curse of high expectations. Through its Nvidia AI Enterprise service, Nvidia is in the process of building out a potentially massive software business. Now, as we start this next generation, we'll be seeing models run on 100,000 Blackwell chips — and scaling is still in effect. Huang's argument is that going beyond 100,000 Blackwell chips will yield even more capable models. It's a fair question to ask because Nvidia's stock has historically taken a pretty big hit when its customers – such as cloud-computing providers – start uttering that phrase.

Trump earlier this month had urged Senate Republicans not to allow any judicial confirmations in the final weeks of the Biden administration while the upper chamber was under Democratic control. Since then, other judicial nominees have been able to clear pivotal votes because not enough Republicans were present to block them. Two of the missing Republicans, Sens. Several of the missing Republicans – which also included Sen. Marco Rubio, Trump’s pick for secretary of state – were back in the chamber Wednesday. Former billionaire investor Sung Kook "Bill" Hwang was sentenced to 18 years in prison on Wednesday over the collapse of Archegos Capital Management, which cost Wall Street banks more than $10 billion. Hwang was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein in Manhattan, where a jury convicted Hwang in July on 10 criminal charges including wire fraud, securities fraud and market manipulation. Before sentencing Hwang, Hellerstein asked the defendant's lawyer, Dani James, how she thought Hwang compared to Sam Bankman-Fried, who was sentenced in March to 25 years in prison for stealing $8 billion from users of the now-bankrupt FTX exchange. Hwang had asked for no prison, forfeiture or restitution, and to remain free on bail while he appealed his conviction. James said his low risk of committing more crimes meant a lengthy prison term served no purpose.

The request follows a landmark ruling in August by Judge Amit P. Mehta of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia that found Google had illegally maintained a monopoly in online search. Judge Mehta asked the Justice Department and the states that brought the antitrust case to submit solutions by the end of Wednesday to correct the search monopoly. Beyond the sale of Chrome, the government asked Judge Mehta to give Google a choice: either sell Android, its smartphone operating system, or bar Google from making its services mandatory on phones that use Android to operate. If Google broke those terms, or the remedies failed to improve competition, the government could force the company to sell Android at a later date. Google should also be required by the court to allow rival search engines to display the company’s results and access its data for a decade, the government said.

AdvertisementI first went to law school in Mexico, where people were more open to friendships. However, the top three global financial hubs (New York, London, and Singapore) belong to common law countries. The US has a common law system, meaning that laws come from uncodified case law resulting from court decisions. Law schools in Mexico take a more theoretical approach, while law schools in the US focus on the practical side. In my case, both law schools made sure we acknowledged this in order to understand how useful we can be.

Donald Trump's legal team filed for immediate dismissal of his New York hush-money case on Wednesday, arguing that he cannot be sentenced while either president-elect or president. "On November 5, 2024, the Nation's People issued a mandate that supersedes the political motivations of DANY's 'People,'" the defense filing concludes, using the acronym for the District Attorney of New York. Chris Unger | Ufc | Getty ImagesThere's considerable uncertainty over the contents of a future Republican tax package and the fate of the EV credit, experts said. Repealing all the IRA's green energy tax credits, including the EV credit, would offset that cost by about $921 billion, it said. She was getting ready to buy one thanks to the $7,500 EV credit, which made the vehicles more affordable, she said. To wait and buy in 2025 is "too big of a gamble" given Trump's antipathy toward the EV credit, she said. There's no question there's real risk in the EV credit going away.

Google has promised to appeal; the company didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday’s filing. “Google is a monopolist, and it has acted as one to maintain its monopoly,” Mehta wrote in his opinion. The Microsoft case has been credited with paving the way for Mozilla’s Firefox and Google’s Chrome browsers, which ultimately allowed Google to promote its search engine to billions of internet users. The Microsoft parallels in the Google case are clear, Mehta wrote in his August opinion. Even as Google fights the Justice Department on remedies in the search case, the company is embroiled in another antitrust battle just across the Potomac River in Alexandria, Virginia.

Musk, the Tesla and SpaceX visionary, has spent the last two weeks basking in Trump’s reflected glory at Mar-a-Lago. He’s around so much it’s almost like he’s family, and he even made it into a photo of Trump’s extended clan. Trump’s growing cultural cloutTrump’s visit to Musk’s launchpad was also the latest occasion since the election when he has inserted himself into high-profile photo-ops. The hit perhaps reflects Trump’s starry-eyed infatuation with Musk’s amazing array of spaceships and limitless ambition. With Musk, Trump might get more than he bargained for.

The long-standing promise of a ban on menthol cigarettes, which has been years in the making, is unlikely to move forward before President-elect Donald Trump takes office in January. The FDA announced it would begin the process of banning menthol tobacco cigarettes in 2021. Since then, it has done all it is legally authorized to do to put the finalized rule to ban menthol in motion. But it’s politics, not public health, that is likely to keep menthol cigarettes on the market as Biden’s term ends. Murthy deferred questions about whether the Biden administration would push the ban through as one of its final acts.

Investigators discovered that a low-level Israeli soldier had illegally removed Hamas documents from a military database and passed them to Eli Feldstein, a communications consultant working for Netanyahu, prosecutors said. Feldstein acted “with the intention of influencing public opinion in Israel on the negotiations regarding the hostages and in particular the issue of the contribution of the demonstrations to the strengthening of Hamas,” prosecutors said. Days after it was published, Netanyahu cited the article as evidence of Hamas’ intent “to use psychological warfare on the hostage families” and to put pressure on the Israeli government. The Israeli soldier accused of leaking the document to him has also been arrested, along with three other military personnel, prosecutors said. “For the past few days, my office has been under a wild and unrestrained attack,” Netanyahu said at the time.
