Florida and Texas each welcomed over 600,000 new residents from 2021 to 2022, the most of any state. Florida and Texas welcomed the greatest number of new residents between 2021 and 2022, just shy of 740,000 and 670,000 people, respectively, according to new Census Bureau data. Many have relocated to Texas, as higher housing costs drive them out of the Golden State, Insider previously reported. In terms of who's leaving their home state, the Golden State had more residents leave than any other between 2021 and 2022, as residents chase affordability across the country. An “American hero,” is how Republican colleagues describe Scalise after the 2017 shooting and on Wednesday, a narrow majority of them nominated him as their next House speaker following the unprecedented ouster of the former speaker, Rep. More importantly Tuesday’s political regicide showed that the majority in the House is inoperable and that the Republican Party is unmanageable. But far from ejecting Biden from office, McCarthy himself was gone in less than a month of launching that inquiry. But a Republican speaker who needs Democratic votes is on borrowed time, although no one could have know that the end would come so soon. I spoke with veteran market watcher Tom McClellan, editor of the McClellan Market Report. It is seasonal factors, which are behaving almost exactly to the script. Is the market weakness mostly due to seasonal factors? That's happening right now, so that's getting cited in the news as the coincident factors but it's not really related. But that's not a good explanation anymore because farming is such a small portion of the economy, and yet the seasonal factors still work.

CNN —Republicans are about to deliver on the driving purpose of their House majority – enacting Donald Trump’s retribution. Rather than try to solve the crisis, hardline House Republicans are driving the country toward a shutdown that Trump ordered up on social media, insisting it will will damage Biden, his potential general election rival. The two showdowns – and the return to power of Trump’s movement in the House – could shape the fate of the Republican House majority, which was narrowly won in last year’s midterm elections. But paradoxically, the tiny House majority – McCarthy can only lose four votes and still pass legislation on a party line – has given the most extreme GOP members more leverage. Some House Republicans are now refusing to vote for any temporary spending extension expected to come over from the Senate.

CNN —Californian EV-maker Lucid has opened the first ever car manufacturing plant in Saudi Arabia, as the kingdom looks to establish itself as a global player in the EV race. The factory — the company’s first international plant — will initially focus on re-assembling vehicle kits sent over from the United States. “We look forward to delivering Saudi-assembled cars to customers in Saudi Arabia and beyond.” Saudi Arabia’s powerful Public Investment Fund (PIF), controlled by the Saudi government, is Lucid’s largest shareholder. Saudi Arabia wants 30% of new car sales in the kingdom to be electric by 2030. Earlier this month, The Wall Street Journal reported that Saudi Arabia had also held talks with Tesla over an EV factory in the kingdom.

New York had its share of startup investors and venture-backed companies, but it wasn't a hotbed of tech activity. After four years at the company, Wang left but chose to stay in New York to launch Bearworks, providing software to sales reps. In 2014, prior to the run of New York City IPOs, California was the leader, followed by Massachusetts and then New York. During the record fundraising year of 2021, New York startups received almost $50 billion across 1,935 companies. Northern California has long been the heartbeat of the tech industry, but Murat Bicer remembers what it was like for New York startups before the rush.
