But Huang’s family said Tesla oversold its Autopilot technology’s capabilities, and that it is not as safe to use as advertised. Tesla has come under intense scrutiny for its Autopilot technology over the six years since Huang’s fatal crash. That didn’t happen in the case of Huang’s crash, Tesla has said. Although Huang’s family acknowledges he was distracted while the car was driving, they argue Tesla is at fault because it falsely marketed Autopilot as self-driving software. If the jury finds in favor of Huang’s family, Tesla could have to pay damages, and they could add up quickly.

Sanofi has reached an agreement in principle to settle 4,000 US lawsuits linking the discontinued heartburn drug Zantac to cancer, the company said on Wednesday. Sanofi still faces about 20,000 lawsuits over Zantac in Delaware state court. That judge concluded that the opinions of the plaintiffs’ expert witnesses that Zantac can cause cancer were not supported by sound science. “We are pushing forward aggressively against GSK and Boehringer Ingelheim and are preparing for multiple trials in California state court this year,” Moore said. Lawsuits began piling up from people who said they developed cancer after taking Zantac.

Work is part of our identity here in a way that people from other countries find at turns fascinating and pathological. The bill would aim to ensure that people aren’t pinged with work emails, texts or calls outside their established work hours, with notable exceptions for emergencies or scheduling issues. If the boss intrudes on your non-work window three times, you can report them and the state could impose fines starting at $100. No one likes pausing Succession to respond to a 9pm request, but the guilt of ignoring it and wondering whether your boss will be mad at you is also, like, not fun. A historically tight labor market has given workers more leverage to negotiate their pay, hours and working conditions.

A decade ago, Jamie Bynum poured his life savings into a barbecue restaurant now tucked between a Thai eatery and a nutrition store in a Southern California strip mall. The staffing, he said, has become harder in recent years, as the state’s minimum wage has steadily increased since 2017, often rising by a dollar per year. Today, it’s $16 an hour. But on Monday, it will jump to $20 an hour for most fast-food workers in California, propelling them to the top of what minimum-wage earners make anywhere in the country. mary zieglerWell, I think it’s much easier to ban abortion than it is to enforce a criminal law against abortion. mary zieglerNo, I think that’s right. If our abortion politics don’t reflect our abortion views, what does that tell us about the health of the democracy? We’ve seen upwards of 10 states — I think it’s 14 or 15 that have changed their definition of abortion in abortion restrictive states since Dobbs. So, the idea is that abortions that are presented as life saving either are not abortions or are simply pretexts for abortion that’s elective.

Tuesday night, OpenAI published several of Musk’s emails from the early days of the company that appear to show Musk acknowledging OpenAI needed to make a ton of money to fund the incredible computing resources needed to power its AI ambitions. OpenAI in a blog post Tuesday night said Musk never followed through on his promise, committing $45 million in funding for OpenAI, while other donors raised $90 million. Musk, in a February 1, 2018, email, told company executives that the only path forward for OpenAI was for Tesla, his electric car company, to buy it. House Speaker Mike Johnson has known, as so many of us have, that the Mayorkas impeachment was doomed to fail from the start. But at its core, impeachment is a political process, not a legal one. Over the past year, Congress’ use of impeachment has gone from merely political to politically gratuitous. House Republicans opened an impeachment inquiry into President Biden himself last year over only the murkiest of corruption charges. The Mayorkas impeachment is, in essence, about policy disagreements that Republicans would like to air to the public in an election year.
