HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Marijuana retailers in Connecticut say a dearth of licensed growers in the state’s fledgling legal pot industry has left them with a shortage of product to sell. The supply problem has appeared after slow retail growth in neighboring New York last year left growers there struggling with the opposite: an excess of supply. So each state that legalizes marijuana is left with its own process for licensing growers and sellers, and trying to create a balance between the two within state borders. When recreational sales became legal in Connecticut in January 2023, he said, there were seven dispensaries in the state and four producers. Rex Heuermann, whom prosecutors charged in July as the Gilgo Beach serial killer, was indicted Tuesday morning in connection with a fourth murder. Mr. Heuermann, 60, was previously charged in the killings of three of the four women who in 2010 were found bound in similar fashion with burlap, belts and tape on the Long Island oceanfront. In July, prosecutors called Mr. Heuermann the prime suspect in the murder of the fourth woman, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25, of Norwich, Conn. Ms. Brainard-Barnes disappeared in 2007, becoming the first of the so-called Gilgo Four to vanish. But charges in her killing were delayed, pending DNA test results on a hair recovered from her remains, and the grand jury in the case continued its work. STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) — Saturday night's AFC wild-card playoff game between the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs on Peacock set a record for the most-watched event on a streaming service. According to Nielsen, the Chiefs' 26-7 victory in frigid temperatures averaged 23 million viewers on Peacock, NFL+ and on NBC affiliates in Kansas City and Miami. Last year’s first-round playoff game between the Los Angeles Chargers and Jacksonville Jaguars averaged 20.61 million viewers. Judging by the audience, Saturday's game is unlikely to be the last playoff matchup shown on a streaming service. Interest rates that banks pay on certificates of deposit are closely tied to short-term interest rates set by the Federal Reserve. Now that the inflation rate has come down, many investing pros see two possible outcomes for interest rates in 2024: one in which the Fed has little choice but to cut rates steeply, and another in which the Fed can cut rates modestly. Either scenario would eventually result in CD rates decreasing, since rates on CDs tend to quickly follow Fed moves. Where will CD rates go in 2024? But if investors are correct that rate cuts are coming, those high CD rates will come down over the next few years, too.

Patrick Kane is joining the Detroit Red Wings for the rest of the season, choosing the championship-rich franchise over other suitors for the four-time All-Star's return to the NHL from hip surgery. After the Blackhawks and New York Rangers he joined after a pre-deadline trade, the Red Wings are set to become Kane’s third Original Six team.
