In fact, the period just before and just after a stock reports is a perfect time to review the relevant patterns and levels. We're going to do just that today for Netflix (NFLX) , Meta (META) and Alphabet (GOOGL) , the biggest components of the S & P 500's communication services sector. Alphabet bullish pattern Alphabet reports earnings next week on Tuesday. Meta's key area Lastly, but certainly not least, Meta reports next Wednesday. There's a common belief that lower borrowing costs benefit so-called growth stocks, as they're often capital-intensive. "History also suggests value should outperform growth, at least over the six months following the first rate cut," he said. If the economic situation becomes a "hard-landing," however, he said that growth stocks could outperform. If it normalizes (i.e., becomes more upward sloping), value should outperform growth," he said, referring to a situation where short-term rates are lower than long-term rates. "Lower multiple value stocks have greater upside and less risk than the pricier 'glamor growth' group for the foreseeable future," Ball said.

Investors should look beyond the so-called "Magnificent Seven" and identify "country winners" in tech outside the U.S., according to one hedge fund manager. Beeneet Kothari, CEO and principal portfolio manager at the U.S.-headquartered hedge fund Tekne Capital Management, said there are global tech stocks that also make good investments right now. "Our view is that there is a Magnificent Seven set of companies in each of the major economies in the world [which] you can buy for a fraction of the value," he told CNBC Pro earlier this month. The Magnificent Seven stocks — Alphabet , Amazon , Apple , Meta Platforms , Microsoft , Nvidia and Tesla — have dominated investor interest in tech over recent years. Several companies scheduled to release quarterly results next week could see their shares take a dive after Wall Street analysts lowered their latest earnings estimates. As of Tuesday, 19% of S & P 500 companies had reported, with earnings and revenue coming in at 6.1% and 1.4% above analysts' expectations, respectively, according to LSEG. But a host of stocks could take a hit next week, after analysts slashed their earnings expectations in recent months. Estimates have dropped nearly 37% over the past three months and more than 84% in the past six. HUM 3M mountain Humana shares over the past three months.

As a key benchmark for long-term interest rates, including 30-year fixed mortgage rates, this rise in yields is exerting negative pressure on the real estate sector. With this in mind, I'm looking to capitalize on the continued pressure on real estate as long as yields keep climbing. Below is a 6-month daily chart of the iShares U.S. Real Estate ETF (IYR) , which tracks the performance of U.S. real estate-related equities. The options chain for Nov. 8 shows that there is a 68% chance that the $102 call will expire worthless by expiration date. The stock is consolidating just below all-time highs and if Netflix's move after earnings is any indication, I think SPOT should punch through to new all-time highs. We're currently trading at $386, just below the all-time highs of $387 set back in 2021. The earnings trajectory for this company has been insane: 2022 EPS ($3.09) 2023 EPS ($2.95) 2024 EPS +$6.37 2025 EPS +$9.06 (est.) Netflix beat expectations and broke to new all-time highs led by new subs, 50% of which are coming from an ad tier. Meta is also in the communication sector sitting close to new all-time highs like NFLX, so the trend for this group remains firmly higher.

CNBC Pro screened for stocks in the MSCI World Index that have received share price target upgrades from Wall Street analysts over the past seven days. Despite raising their price target, Phillip Capital analysts have a "neutral" rating on the stock. The median price target of 17 analysts points to 18% upside potential. That bullish consensus makes this former CBOT pit trader take pause, and I believe now is the time to hedge some semiconductor exposure. I want to use put options in the VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) to mitigate downside risk. As a global leader in digital payments, Visa has 4.2 billion credit and payment cards in circulation across more than 200 countries. Through its advanced transaction processing network, VisaNet, the company facilitates payment authorization, clearing, and settlement, and it is one of the most remarkable and consistent growth stories around — along with fellow payment processing company Mastercard. The following chart illustrates its remarkably consistent growth since the pandemic plunge (which naturally suspended considerable economic activity). While a 30 P/E is higher than the market's, the S & P trades closer to 26 times earnings; Visa should trade at a premium. The ability for consumer spending growth to continue apace is limited, so presumably, topline growth will slow somewhat.

While charts like Carnival Corp. (CCL) have once again become overbought, the strength of the recent breakout suggests they may just be getting started. The longer a resistance level is tested, the more meaningful it becomes when the price finally breaks above this price ceiling. As long as CCL remains above this breakout level, the uptrend phase appears to be in good shape. Note the daily RSI which has pushed above the crucial 70 level on the recent breakout. The recent breakout for cruise lines like Carnival Corp. suggests that the uptrend phase may just be beginning.
