Read previewThe US Navy sacked the captain of a deployed warship after an unresolved steering problem resulted in a near-miss incident in the Middle East, according to a command investigation reviewed by Business Insider. But the command investigation said Yaste was relieved after the McCain lost steering during a July fuel replenishment that damaged a Navy oiler. The troubled destroyer remained at sea, and the command investigation said there was no evidence any notable troubleshooting efforts occurred after July 9. The August command investigation found that McCain crewmembers made a variety of mistakes, including failing to follow loss-of-steering procedures or communicating sufficiently between controlling stations. AdvertisementThe Navy has not publicly disclosed what happened with the McCain or acknowledged the steering issues during the deployment.

A former Kansas police chief linked to the Aug. 11, 2023, raid of a local newspaper was formally charged with one count of interference with the judicial process. She collapsed and died the day after the raid, and Meyer blamed her death on the stress of the raid. Joan Meyer, co-owner of the Marion County Record, swears at police officers in her home on Aug. 11, 2023. Marion County Attorney Joel Ensey, however, withdrew the search warrants after determining that "insufficient evidence exists to establish a legally sufficient nexus between this alleged crime and the places searched and the items seized." Constellation has surged 62% year to date to become the sixth-best performing stock in the S & P 500 , while Vistra has more than doubled to become the second-best performing stock, only slightly behind AI chipmaker Nvidia . Constellation owns the largest nuclear fleet in the U.S., operating 21 of the country's 93 reactors. Campanella sees the recent pullback of Constellation's stock, down 12% over the past month, as an attractive buying opportunity. Constellation and Vistra have substantial catalysts on the horizon that are not factored into their guidance, as tech companies shop for nuclear reactors to power their energy-hungry data centers , according to the analysts. Constellation is also exploring the possibility of restarting reactor Unit 1 at Three Mile Island in Pennsylvania, which ceased operations in 2019, as demand for nuclear energy grows.

The Summary Studies have found that wildfire smoke negatively affects brain health. “A lot of the research on wildfire smoke has historically focused on our lungs and our hearts,” said Stephanie Cleland, an assistant professor at Simon Fraser University who studies the health impacts of wildfire smoke. Scientists think the reason wildfire smoke affects the brain is that the tiny particles within it can cross the barrier between the bloodstream and the brain, causing inflammation in the central nervous system. Other research published the same year showed that exposure to wildfire smoke during the school year reduced students’ test scores relative to a year with no smoke. “Last summer completely changed our conversation around who’s exposed to wildfire smoke,” she said.

CNN —The stereotypical “cat lady” is one of pop culture’s most bizarre characters — and easiest punching bags. And though Vance’s description of “cat lady” didn’t include “crazy,” madness has been associated with “cat ladies” for over a century. “There is something about the independence of cats, something I like about them, which can be linked with a suspicion of independent women,” said Alice Madicott, whose book “Cat Women” prods the “crazy cat lady” stereotype. Many women proudly reclaim ‘cat lady’So-called cat ladies have been reclaiming the term for more than a century. And since Vance’s comments resurfaced this week, “childless cat lady” is now appearing on new merchandise including bumper stickers and yard signs.
