Turkey's Bayraktar TB2 drone has been praised for its performance against Russia in Ukraine. A Bayraktar TB2 drone, purchased in a crowdfunding campaign, displayed at a Lithuanian air base in July 2022. ReutersThe US no doubt supports Turkish drone sales to Ukraine and welcomes the TB2's success against Russian forces. In 2021, the US took issue with Turkey's sale of TB2 armed drones to Ethiopia during the Tigray War. The US government frequently touts its efforts to rally international support for Ukraine, and it undoubtedly welcomes the addition of Turkish TB2s Kyiv's arsenal.

Israel accused Iran of instructing Lebanese militant group Hezbollah to conduct recent attacks on Israel's northern border to distract from the situation further south, where Israel is preparing for a ground operation in Gaza. Gen. Daniel Hagari warned Iran-backed Hezbollah forces in southern Lebanon that they would face deadly consequences if they continue to attack Israel Defense Forces. “The IDF is strongly prepared, we have reinforced troops and are responding to any actions,” he said during a press conference Monday.

Israel Says It Has Intelligence on Location of Hostages

The Israeli military for the first time said it had intelligence relating to the whereabouts of hostages taken during raids into Israel by Hamas militants, who are holding at least 199 people captive in Gaza. Gen. Daniel Hagari said at a briefing Monday that the military "will not carry out an attack that would endanger our people." The presence of hostages across the Palestinian enclave has complicated Israel's response to the attacks that left at least 1,400 dead as it has carried out retaliatory airstrikes killing more than 2,750 people. Twenty-two of the hostages have been killed in Israeli airstrikes, Hamas said, in a claim that couldn’t be verified. Abu Obeida, a spokesman for Hamas’s armed wing, said in a statement on Telegram app that “dozens of hostages” had been hidden in “safe places and the tunnels of the resistance.”

Gen. Daniel Hagari warned Iran-backed Hezbollah forces in southern Lebanon that they would face devastating consequences if they continue to attack. “Hezbollah is escalating along the Northern border in order to challenge Israel in its war in Gaza and is doing so with Iran’s support and instruction, endangering Lebanon and its citizens,” Hagari said. “Israel has a strong army prepared to act and fight on two fronts and even more,” he added. Israel and Hezbollah have traded attacks ever since Hamas carried out a deadly attack in southern Israel last weekend that killed at least 1,400 Israelis. Hagari said that 600,000 people from the northern Gaza Strip had followed Israeli military directives to move south as the Israeli military prepared for its largest ground operation ever in the isolated Palestinian enclave.

Israeli General Says Hamas Attack Surprised the Military

The Hamas attack last weekend surprised the Israeli military, but now the focus must be on defeating the militant group rather than figuring out what errors occurred, the commander of the Israeli military’s Gaza Division told soldiers stationed in the south. “From here we are only looking forward, at nothing but defense and offense, until victory, until we crush and break Hamas,” said Brig. Gen. Avi Rosenfeld, speaking publicly for the first time since the attack that left 1,300 dead.

Since 1949, all female recruits have gone through boot camp at the South Carolina base; the 4th Battalion was created in 1986 as the women's unit. Inside the pool, men and women struggle side by side, jumping off a platform and swimming to the other end. Some measure of all-male companies would be necessary no matter what because there just are not enough female recruits to go around. The split, she said, divided them into “male Marines” and “female Marines,” and that shaped the men’s view of the women and made it more difficult for them to work together as they moved along. Young female recruits, who usually come from high schools where there is little separation, acknowledge the differences but voice no complaints.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea said Wednesday that it will expel a U.S. soldier who crossed into the country through the heavily armed border between the Koreas in July. At the time he crossed the border, King was supposed to be heading to Fort Bliss, Texas, following his release from prison in South Korea on an assault conviction. Following weeks of silence, North Korea confirmed in August that it had detained King, 23, and was investigating the circumstances surrounding his border crossing. King, who is from Wisconsin, was among about 28,000 U.S. troops stationed in South Korea as deterrence against potential aggression from North Korea. That happened in 2017 when North Korea deported Otto Warmbier, an American college student who was in a coma at the time of his release and later died.

CNN —China appears to have suspended its surveillance balloon program following a major diplomatic incident earlier this year, when one of the country’s high-altitude spy balloons transited the United States, multiple sources familiar with US intelligence assessments told CNN. The apparent suspension of the program comes as both the US and China have sought to stabilize an increasingly tense relationship. The US assessed at the time that the spy balloon was part of an extensive surveillance program run by the Chinese military, CNN has previously reported. “We believe that (the balloon) did not collect while it was transiting the United States or flying over the United States, and certainly the efforts that we made contributed,” Pentagon Press Secretary Brig. The more sensitive radar systems led the US military to spot more unidentified objects in US airspace, however, leading to three additional shootdowns of unidentified high-altitude objects in the weeks following the Chinese balloon incident.
