Yet in over half of the shootings we identified, ICE agents never made an arrest. But Ramos still became one of dozens of people on the receiving end of an ICE agent's deadly force. A significant number of the shootings documented in the logs happened while ICE agents were off-duty or in plain clothes.

The leader of one of New York’s most elite private schools has left his post after an academic year marked by infighting among parents, students, faculty and alumni over the war in Gaza. Joe Algrant stepped down on Thursday as the head of school at Ethical Culture Fieldston School after a two-year tenure, “to pursue other personal and professional goals and opportunities,” according to an email sent to the school community by the Fieldston board of trustees. This spring, Fieldston was torn apart by pro-Palestinian student activism, including graffiti on the high school that drew widespread public attention. The friction at Fieldston was mirrored at private schools across the city. Mr. Algrant’s departure comes less that two months after the board of the Collegiate School, another elite private school in New York, announced that its head of school would depart, after an internal report found “disquieting problems of religious and cultural bias” at the school.

Anne Wojcicki, CEO of 23andMe , has submitted a proposal to take the genetic testing company private as its stock price continues to hover below $1. The proposed price of 40 cents per share reflects an 11% premium to 23andMe's closing stock price from April. 23andMe went public in 2021 via a merger with a special purpose acquisition company, which valued the company at around $3.5 billion. In November, the company received a deficiency letter from the Nasdaq Listing Qualifications Department, which said the company had 180 days to bring its share price back above $1. The Special Committee will need to approve or reject Wojcicki's proposal to take the company private, according to the filing Wednesday.

The vote on Tuesday by the board of supervisors, the five-member governing body of the county, reflected the deep motivation of local leaders to align themselves on strategy for a vast region that includes 88 cities and more than 75,000 homeless people. CNN —Three members of the Nelons, a Georgia-based family gospel group, were among seven people killed in a plane crash in Wyoming on Friday, according to a statement from the family’s management company. Kelly Nelon Clark, her husband, Jason Clark, and their daughter Amber Kistler died in the crash Friday afternoon, according to a statement by daughter Autumn Nelon Streetman, who was not on the plane, that was included with the Gaither Music Group announcement. “Through a career of valued service in public safety, Larry’s impact on our state will not be forgotten,” Kemp wrote. The Gaither statement said Nelon Streetman and her husband were notified of the deaths in Seattle and were returning to their home. New York CNN —The US Department of Justice on Wednesday for the first time shared details of its finalized plea deal agreement with Boeing, in which the troubled aviation company will plead guilty to a felony charge of defrauding the US government. The plea deal is subject to approval of a federal judge. “We will continue to work transparently with our regulators as we take significant actions across Boeing to further strengthen our safety, quality and compliance programs,” Boeing said in a statement. It had already paid half the fine as part of the original plea deal in 2021. The families of victims of two fatal crashes of the 737 Max oppose the deal, the Justice Department said.

Silicon Valley’s plans for a start-up city are on hold. The delay was announced as part of a joint agreement between California Forever, the company behind the development, and a member of the Solano County’s Board of Supervisors. The agreement means that a ballot initiative, which the company had hoped to put before Solano County’s voters this year, will not appear on the November ballot as planned. California Forever said it would instead spend the rest of this year and next preparing an environmental impact report and trying to craft a development agreement with the county. The project would still have to go before voters to win final approval.
