JERUSALEM, Sept 13 (Reuters) - Israel's UBQ Materials, which converts household waste into thermoplastic material, said on Wednesday it raised $70 million in a private funding round led by Eden Global Partners. Existing investors in the company, including TPG Rise Climate, TPG’s Rise Fund, Battery Ventures, and M&G’s Catalyst strategy, also participated in the funding round. UBQ said the funds will be used for its global expansion, such as additional facilities in Europe and North America, alongside the soon to open facility in Bergen Op Zoom, Netherlands. UBQ noted that its bio-based thermoplastic that is made from residual waste serves as a sustainable alternative to fossil-based plastics. UBQ converts residual household waste diverted from landfills or incineration, including all organics, into an thermoplastic material that is both climate-positive and highly recyclable.

STAVANGER, Norway (AP) — The Norwegian king’s eldest child, Princess Märtha Louise, will marry her Hollywood partner, the self-professed shaman Durek Verrett, next summer, the couple announced Wednesday. Russian President Vladimir Putin made a speech Saturday condemning the mutiny by the Wagner group, comparing the uprising to the events sparked by Russia’s 1917 revolution. Putin claimed that the Russians were stabbed “in the back” by nameless enemies towards the end of World War I, which he said is why the Russians lost that war and that in turn led to “a civil war” in Russia, Putin said. The Russians were not stabbed in the back during World War I, as Putin suggested during his remarks on Saturday. During the 1917 revolution, a Marxist party known as the Bolsheviks seized power. A year later, Nicholas II and other members of the ruling Romanov family ended up on the wrong end of a firing squad.

An orca repeatedly rammed a yacht in the Shetland Islands, a sailor told the Guardian. The attack follows a series of orca incidents around the Iberian peninsula. The 72-year-old Dutch physicist, an experienced sailor, said he had heard about orca incidents around Portugal, adding that he found the loud breathing of the orca the "most frightening." While many boat interactions with orcas in the area have been harmless, killer whales have increasingly rammed and even sank boats. The rising number of incidents has left researchers concerned for sailors' safety and the dwindling orca population around the Iberian peninsula.
