A spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney's Office told NBC News Monday afternoon it is unclear when he will be arraigned "based on a number of factors." The three officers were hospitalized, according to Sewell, who said one had a fractured skull and another had a bad cut. The sources added that Bickford is believed to have traveled from Wells to lower Manhattan on Thursday mainly via Amtrak. FBI agents were outside Bickford's Wells home on Sunday, NBC affiliate WCSH of Portland, Maine reported. Neighbors told NBC affiliate WJAR of Providence, Rhode Island they were shocked by the attack.
Jan 2 (Reuters) - A teenager accused of attacking three policemen with a machete on New Year's Eve near Times Square was charged with attempted murder and attempted assault, New York police said on Monday, in an incident the New York Times said was linked to Islamic extremism. Authorities did not comment on the motivation for the attack, but the Times reported that the suspect was driven by Islamic extremism. The newspaper quoted an unnamed senior law enforcement official, who said that Bickford may later face extremism charges. The Times said Bickford had converted to Islam sometime in the last year and a half. Before the attack, Bickford wrote a farewell letter to his family in a diary, the Times reported.
The New York Times reports NYU Langone gave "VIPs" like donors and trustees preferential treatment. NYU Langone broadly denied the claims in a statement to Insider. Langone told the Times that he never asked for or was offered special treatment. Ambulance workers who brought these patients to NYU Langone were sometimes pressured to take them elsewhere, the report says. New York Senator Chuck Schumer once went into Room 20 with his wife, who was experiencing shortness of breath, the Times reported.

Dec 15 (Reuters) - Agriculture commodities trader Bunge Ltd (BG.N) said on Thursday it would invest about $550 million to build a soy protein concentrate facility in Indiana to cater to a rising demand for plant-based food products and processed meats. The new facility, which is adjacent to the company's soybean processing plant in Morristown, is expected to process an additional 4.5 million bushels of soybeans. Soy protein concentrate is used to make meat alternatives, but also helps to increase nutritional value in existing meat and poultry products. The global plant-based meat market size, according to a report by Grand View Research Inc, is projected to reach $24.8 billion by 2030. Bunge also operates a soy protein concentrate operation in Bellevue, Ohio.
Participants who were offered cash incentives for either pounds lost or for completing certain activities were more likely to lose weight compared with those who were simply offered tools, such as diet books, fitness trackers and access to a weight loss program, the study found. On average, participants in the goal-directed group earned $440.44, as compared to $303.56 in the outcome-based group. “Even if less weight is lost, adopting lifelong physical activity or better eating habits may be more important,” she said. Kushner, who was not involved with the new study, agreed that low-income people face extra challenges when it comes to weight loss. What’s not clear, however, is how the strategy of offering cash for weight loss could be implemented in a real-world setting, outside of academia.

Jail-bound Allen Weisselberg, Trump's ex-CFO, is testifying in the Trump Org tax-fraud trial. Harvey Weinstein's prison coach, Craig Rothfeld, is sitting with the ex-CFO's lawyers, watching. Clearly still loyal to Trump, his boss since the mid-'80s, Weisselberg has been doing a delicate dance on the witness stand. If he displeases prosecutors, the 75-year-old accountant could find himself serving a state prison term. Prosecutors, though, must prove that Weisselberg intended this benefit to the company, something he has yet to say.
Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg apologised to employees and said the layoffs were a "last resort." The cuts at Meta come after Lyft let go almost 700 workers, Stripe cut 14% of its staff, and Twitter axed half its workforce. That compares with Twitter employees receiving blunt emails titled "Your Role at Twitter" that stated: "Today is your last working day at the company." Twitter employees have only been offered three months' pay. Elon Musk has defended Twitter's mass layoffs — saying he had "no choice" but to cut thousands of workers as the company loses $4 million a day.

Former “Saturday Night Live” star Chris Redd is publicly detailing his experience being attacked last month outside a famed New York City comedy club where he was scheduled to perform. I thought it was brass knuckles because it cut my nose to the bone," Redd said on "The Last Laugh." After being hit, Redd briefly fell to the ground before jumping back to his feet, he said: "He hit me, he was gone, I was gushing blood so I couldn't look around." Now, he's preparing to make the assault part of his next set, he said: "I got some jokes, for sure," Redd said. He was last seen wearing a blue jacket; blue shirt; black pants; black, gray and white sneakers; a multi-color fedora hat; and a black face mask.
Joshua Siegel cofounded Titan Casket, a direct-to-consumer casket seller. It sold a casket to a production company, which Taylor Swift used in her new video for "Anti-Hero." When Scott described the industry structure to me, I immediately saw the opportunity to create a direct-to-consumer business selling caskets. Liz and Scott ran the business full-time, and we brought on an intern from the University of North Carolina for the summer of 2020. Because funeral caskets don't constitute a highly competitive space, we could book Google Ads without much competition.

Former “Saturday Night Live” star Chris Redd was punched in the face outside a famed New York City comedy club and hospitalized in what police described as an unprovoked attack. Redd, 37, had just exited a vehicle in front of the club when an unknown individual approached him and punched him, police said. Fabrizio Cavallacci, the owner of Cafe Reggio, which is next door to the comedy club and whose cameras recorded the attack, said there was a "huge pool of blood" on the ground. Shares of Microsoft dropped as much as 8% early Wednesday, a day after the company released its fiscal first-quarter earnings. Microsoft surpassed expectations on the top and bottom lines, but the stock was pressured by weak guidance and cloud revenue that missed expectations. CEO Satya Nadella said on a conference call with analysts that cyclical trends are affecting Microsoft's consumer business. Analysts at Morgan Stanley also remain confident in Microsoft's growth potential despite its weak cyclical areas and guidance. Microsoft shares have fallen about 25% so far this year, while the S&P 500 stock index is down 19% over the same period.
Amazon told employees of its logistics operations center they must go into the office in person. Many of those employees were hired as remote workers in the past two years, meaning some will be forced to relocate to the hub's Phoenix offices – or lose their jobs. The freight logistics hub these employees work at, called the Relay Operations Center, is responsible for responding to unexpected shipping disruptions. Inside Amazon, remote work remains popular. Relay Operations Center employees did not take the survey, the results of which were obtained by Insider.
John Fetterman suffered days before winning the Democratic Senate nomination in May. The stroke added a new wrinkle to a race that could determine which party takes control of the 50-50 U.S. Senate. The Oz campaign is clearly hoping that perception will hurt Fetterman. In one egregious example, Oz issued a list of “concessions” for their debate Tuesday night that many see as mocking. Benjamin Abella, a professor of emergency medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, criticized the Oz campaign for shaming a stroke survivor.
Despite strong headline results, shares fell roughly 6.5% in extended trading on lighter Azure cloud growth and weaker forward guidance. Note: Constant currency growth rates, which is what we will cite in this report, help strip out fluctuations in foreign currency, namely a strong U.S. dollar, to provide a clearer financial picture. Xbox Content and Services revenue ticked up 1% in constant currency, while Xbox hardware sales jumped 19% in constant currency. Management expects Azure revenue growth to be lower sequentially by roughly five percentage points on a constant currency basis. Despite coming up a bit short versus estimates, Microsoft is still generating a ton of cash.

A sanctions compliance program was not adopted until December 2015, though Bittrex began offering virtual currency services in early 2014.
