CNN —A drug currently used to treat HIV has also been found to dramatically reduce the risk of infection, significantly more than the primary option available for pre-exposure prophylaxis or PrEP. In a Phase 3 clinical trial, 99.9% of participants who took a twice-a-year injection of lenacapavir for HIV prevention did not acquire an infection, according to data from drugmaker Gilead Sciences. There were only two cases among 2,180 patients – effectively reducing the risk of HIV infection by 96% and proving 89% more effective than Truvada, a pill taken once a day. It’s a “significant breakthrough in HIV prevention,” according to a news release from the World Health Organization in July. Gilead said it will use these trial data to start the drug approval process in multiple countries by the end of the year.

CNN —Julián Álvarez has signed for Atlético Madrid from Manchester City in reported deal worth approximately $104 million, the Spanish club announced on Monday. According to British media, Atleti will pay an initial $82m (£64m) for Álvarez, with a further $22m (£17m) in potential add-ons. CNN has reached out to City and Atlético to confirm the reported transfer fee. “New challenges, with the same people as always,” Álvarez posted on Instagram after sealing his move to the Spanish capital. CNN —A 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196 Streamliner valued between $50-70 million is among the historic cars set to be sold by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. “These vehicles will be some of the world’s most significant cars ever sold,” Gord Duff, global head of auctions at RM Sotheby’s, said in the statement. The cars will be sold at different events late this year and in 2025, according to the statement. In 2022, a very rare 1955 Mercedes-Benz SLR coupe that had been kept in the German automaker’s collection was sold to a private buyer for €135 million ($142 million at the time). “The Ferrari 250 GTO is the motoring market’s equivalent of Van Gogh’s ‘Sunflowers’ and a talisman for any top-end collection,” he said.
