The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the Fed and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. are expected to sign off on the new requirements for banks on Tuesday. Photo: Andrew Harrer/Bloomberg NewsWASHINGTON—Top U.S. banking regulators struggled for more than five years to update anti-redlining rules aimed at making banks lend more in lower-income communities. On Tuesday, they are completing a revamp of them for the era of online banking. The 1977 Community Reinvestment Act sought to end banks’ historical practice of denying or limiting financial services in minority neighborhoods. The current rules, which are nearly 30 years old, generally require banks to serve everyone in the communities surrounding their branches, including lower-income people.

The population of the super wealthy, or those worth $100 million or more, doubled over the past 20 years as asset prices soared around the world, according to a new report. The rise of tech wealth, especially in the U.S., has also helped fueled the growth in the super-wealthy. The number of billionaires in the world has skyrocketed from under 500 in 2003 to more than 2,600 today, according to Forbes and other wealth-tracking firms. "The value of money has declined, so in dollar terms, you would expect more centi-millionaires," said Andrew Amoils, head of research at New World Wealth. The U.S. is still the dominant capital of entrepreneurship and centi-millionaires, with 38% of the global population of people worth $100 million or more, according to the report.

CNN —The former controller of the Trump Organization says that Eric Trump directed him to make certain decisions that led to the inflated valuations of several Trump properties. Jeff McConney, also a co-defendant of former President Donald Trump, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., testified Friday as the first week of the civil fraud trial came to an end. (Attorneys for Eric Trump have argued he was not aware that any phone conversations with McConney were used to formulate value assets in the financial statements for Trump properties.) McConney testified that he did not know at the time that Trump had deeded away his right to develop the property beyond its use as a social club in 2005. He said he did this at the direction of Eric Trump, who oversaw the project.

Former President Donald Trump sits in the courtroom for the third day of his civil fraud trial in New York, Oct. 4, 2023. But Kise said he did not want to reveal the scope of the appeal planned for Friday morning, upsetting a lawyer from the New York Attorney General's Office. Lawyers for Donald Trump may ask a New York appeals court to pause his ongoing $250 million business fraud trial and stay a judge's order that could gut the former president's company, lawyers said Thursday afternoon. Engoron last month issued a summary judgment finding that James had proven her top claim, that the defendants engaged in business fraud. Trump was present in court for the first 2½ days of the trial, which began Monday.

Making mistakes doesn't feel great, but they can provide some lessons you might not have learned otherwise. We asked this year's rising stars of Wall Street to open up about the biggest missteps of their careers so far and what they took away from them. Some shared their rookie errors — like slamming their laptop shut after forgetting to save their first big pitch deck or duplicating a trade — while others gave more reflective answers about how early career mistakes impacted their paths. We've got to iterate and change how we do things, and I think that's helped our team's process a lot. So my mistakes also brought me here, and everything that has been a mistake is always a learning experience.
