CNN —The federal criminal sex trafficking case against Sean “Diddy” Combs has been assigned a new judge. Before joining the law firm, he worked as a law clerk for Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Combs’ case was first randomly assigned to Judge Andrew Carter, who was nominated by President Barack Obama in 2011. Combs is currently incarcerated and is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York while awaiting his criminal trial. He was arrested earlier this month and charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution, and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

☆ Meta found a new way to crack down on scam accounts, and it seems to be working

Meta is partnering with banks to identify scam accounts. Meta says the collaboration led to the removal of 20,000 scam accounts in the UK alone. So Meta launched a new program that allows banks to "share intelligence" directly with the social media conglomerate to more efficiently combat scams. Meta said in a statement that, based on data shared by the two banks, it has already removed 20,000 accounts it believes were run by scammers. In just the first six months, the program blocked 8,000 different pages and 9,000 celebrity scams, Meta told the outlet.

Diamond Sports — the owner of Bally Sports-branded regional sports networks — said Wednesday that it plans to drop all MLB teams from its channels except for the Atlanta Braves. A Diamond attorney made the comments before a U.S. bankruptcy judge on Wednesday as part of an update on the company's ongoing bankruptcy process and attempt at finalizing a reorganization plan. Some of those teams were already slated to see their contracts end this season, and some contracts are not being determined by the bankruptcy process, a Diamond spokesperson said. "To be clear, rejecting these teams is not our preferred path," Diamond attorney Andrew Goldman said on Wednesday. Goldman said Diamond had warned the league about this outcome in August, noting it was a possibility if the MLB rejected Diamond's latest proposal.

“The idea was that all you need to defend against antisemitism is a table and a couple of Jewish students willing to have a conversation,” he explained. “It was a very difficult time and a lot of Jewish students started to become scared. “Jewish students had a terrible year last year,” Emma Hallali, president of the European Union of Jewish Students (EUJS), an umbrella organization representing 160,000 young people in 36 different countries, told CNN. “The community of Jewish students in Oxford has never been stronger and it’s a really vibrant place to be,” he said. Jon-Adrian Velazquez spent close to 27 years caught in the criminal justice system — nearly all of it behind bars in New York's Sing Sing prison, convicted of a murder he insisted he did not commit. Andrew Cuomo granted Velazquez executive clemency, citing his work in Sing Sing on an educational initiative by those incarcerated to combat gun violence, and he was freed after serving almost 24 years of a 25-year-to-life sentence. The results determined Velazquez's DNA was not on the key evidence. Since his release from prison, Velazquez has used his experience to become an advocate for criminal legal reform and even played himself in the 2023 drama "Sing Sing," based on an actual Rehabilitation Through the Arts program at the prison. The podcast "Letters from Sing Sing" was a finalist for a 2024 Pulitzer Prize in audio reporting and Slepian's book about the case, "The Sing Sing Files: One Journalist, Six Innocent Men, and a Twenty-Year Fight for Justice," was released this month.
