We can bet that they will be one-upping each other about how high they want to take fed funds, the overnight bank lending rate. They seem to want to ignore anything that's succeeded since the Fed's rate increase cycle began back in March. I think that, again, if the Fed were to wait through Christmas they would see the layoffs and the corporate failures. One thing that's for certain, the buyers of the 2-year may be more sensitive to the data than the Fed. REUTERS/Al Drago/File PhotoWASHINGTON, Nov 17 (Reuters) - U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to pass the leadership torch for House Democrats and throw her support behind congressman Hakeem Jeffries, news website Puck reported on Thursday. Pelosi plans to announce her intentions in remarks before the House at noon (1700 GMT), where she will say she plans to stay in Congress as a backbench lawmaker, Puck reporter Tara Palmeri wrote. REUTERS/Al DragoWASHINGTON, Nov 3 (Reuters) - The United States is not in a recession, White House chief of staff Ron Klain said on Thursday, adding that economic data showed the nation's economy was solid. "We are not in a recession," U.S. President Joe Biden's top aide told MSNBC in an interview following the release of weekly U.S. jobless data earlier on Thursday. The global economy is approaching a recession, a Reuters poll of economists shows, and some U.S. CEOs, including Goldman Sachs', have recently expressed concerns the U.S. could tip into recession next year. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told MSNBC earlier Friday "We are not -- there are no meetings or anything happening like that in preparing for a recession because...look, what we're seeing right now is a strong labor market."
He said the spouses of some high-profile lawmakers may need security details in the future, in addition to using home security systems. Court documents allege the suspect had been in search of the House speaker and was on a "suicide mission" with additional targets. However, "there are not enough resources available to me to do that," she said on MSNBC following the attack on Paul Pelosi. “Bloodshed is coming," Swalwell tweeted at the time, foreshadowing the Pelosi attack. The Paul Pelosi attack was foreseeable," Schuman said.
The U.S. Treasury Department in Washington. Al Drago/Bloomberg via Getty ImagesI bonds broke daily, weekly and monthly sales recordsThe Treasury sold $979 million of I bonds before the deadline on Friday — nearly as much in one day as during the three years from 2018 to 2020, when investors bought slightly more than $1 billion, according to Treasury Department figures shared Tuesday. Investors opened 95,482 new accounts on Friday, also a record. Investors purchased more than $3 billion of I bonds last week and almost $7 billion in October — which represent weekly and monthly records, too, according to initial estimates the Treasury Department provided Monday. Investors opened 359,822 new accounts last week and 731,336 new accounts during October.
No stranger to political pressure, the Fed chief this week found himself the focus of concern in a letter from Sen. Sherrod Brown. Democrats, including then-presidential hopeful Joe Biden, criticized Trump for his Fed comments, insisting the central bank be free of political pressure when formulating monetary policy. Standing firmBrown's stance was considerably more nuanced than Trump's — though equally unlikely to move the dial on monetary policy. A Fed spokesman acknowledged that Powell received the Brown letter and said normal policy is to respond to such communication directly. In the past, Powell has been generally dismissive when asked if political pressure can factor into decision making.
Al Drago | Bloomberg | Getty ImagesJPMorgan Chase President Daniel Pinto has vivid memories of what life is like when a country loses control of inflation. "If it causes a slightly deeper recession for a period of time, that is the price we have to pay." The Fed funds rate will probably peak at around 5%; that, along with a rise in unemployment, will likely curb inflation, Pinto said. "We're dealing with a market that is pricing the probability of recession and how deep it's going to be," Pinto said. "Real rates should be higher in the next 20 years than they were in the last 20 years," Pinto said.
House Democrats have unified as they fight to retain their fragile majority in next month’s midterms. But given Biden’s unpopularity and the GOP lead on the generic congressional ballot (which asks only which party people would support), the more likely scenario is a bad election night for House Democrats. If Pelosi, Hoyer and Clyburn head for the exits, the leadership matchups become pretty clear. Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., conducts a news conference in the Capitol Visitor Center on Sept. 20. The Massachusetts Democrat has significant support from fellow female members and has stayed close to the Black, Hispanic and Asian caucuses — big voting blocs in the diverse 220-member Democratic Caucus.
Dimon said in June that he was preparing the bank for an economic "hurricane" caused by the Federal Reserve and Russia's war in Ukraine. Al Drago | Bloomberg | Getty ImagesJPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said Monday that the U.S. should forge ahead in pumping more oil and gas to help alleviate the global energy crisis, likening the situation to a national security risk of war-level proportions. Speaking to CNBC, Dimon dubbed the crisis "pretty predictable" — occurring as it has from Europe's historic overdependence on Russian energy — and urged Western allies to support the U.S. in taking a lead role in international energy security. We should have gotten that right starting in March," he continued, referring to the onset of the energy crisis following Russia's invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24. And while EU nations have hit targets to shore up gas supplies over the coming winter months, Dimon said leaders should now be looking ahead to future energy security concerns.
As a result, UBS analysts lowered their rating on Ford to sell from neutral, while cutting their price target to $10 a share from $13 a share. The market took note, as Ford quickly found itself one of the biggest losers in the S & P 500 on Monday. Ford shares were down roughly 7.7%, at $11.26 a share, in midday trading. As long-term Ford believers, we're paying attention to both — especially the fact that Ford shares entered Monday's session down roughly 41% year-to-date. Al Drago | Bloomberg | Getty ImagesInvestors are closely watching the nonfarm payrolls report due out Friday, but not for the usual reasons. In normal times, strong job gains and rising wages would be considered a good thing. When they get bad news on the economy, that means the Fed is going to tighten less." In real terms, Swiber said that likely means no change until the economy is actually losing jobs. Next week's CPI reading is likely to be more consequential when it comes to any shift in Fed attitudes, she added.
Jerome Powell, chairman of the US Federal Reserve, speaks during a Fed Listens event in Washington, D.C., US, on Friday, Sept. 23, 2022. Federal Reserve officials this week gave their clearest signal yet that they're willing to tolerate a recession as the necessary trade-off for regaining control of inflation. That's monetary policy in this era of rapid inflation, swooning economic growth and heightened fears over what could go wrong. "But I would argue that they're still being overly optimistic at which the inflation rate is going to decelerate on its own." "Right now, the pain that I hear, the suffering that people are telling me what they're going through, is on the inflation side," she said during a talk at the Council on Foreign Relations.

It originally held $4.05 billion, but has grown because the Justice Department has recovered additional assets.

Law enforcement activity has not pushed these false electors from their political perches. Al Drago / Bloomberg via Getty ImagesAll told, 23 of those false electors hold positions of power within their Republican parties. Then there are additional actors that didn’t serve in the slate of false electors themselves but were instrumental in the scheme. Others hold positions of power within the state GOP, including Shafer, who is chair; Joseph Brannan, state GOP treasurer; Vikki Consiglio, the state party’s assistant treasurer; and Ken Carroll, the assistant secretary. On June 21, federal agents scattered across key states to deliver subpoenas to those who acted as Trump electors.

Companies Us Justice Department FollowWASHINGTON, Sept 16 (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department on Friday asked a federal appeals court to let it resume reviewing classified materials seized in an FBI search of former President Donald Trump's Florida estate. The Justice Department must now convince the Atlanta-based appeals court, with a conservative majority, to take its side in litigation over the records probe. The government's motion comes after U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon on Thursday rejected the same requests from the Justice Department. REUTERS/Al Drago/File PhotoThere were roughly 100 classified documents among the 11,000 records gathered in the FBI's court-approved Aug. 8 search at the former president's Mar-a-Lago resort.
