Read previewJoe Rogan wants you to know that calling Robert Kennedy Jr. "the only" presidential candidate who "makes sense" wasn't an endorsement. On Rogan's post, Trump allies continued to insult Rogan's intelligence and trustworthiness. Mike Madrid, a Republican political consultant, told The New York Times that Rogan's support of Kennedy Jr "takes straight from the Trump base." However, a potential deal between the two — in which Kennedy Jr. would receive a cabinet position in exchange for his endorsement — fell through. Representatives for Kennedy, Trump, and Rogan did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Business Insider.

The Aug. 2 dinner at the Bridgehampton, N.Y., home of Howard Lutnick, the Cantor Fitzgerald chief executive, was a high-powered affair. Among the roughly 130 people who dined under an air-conditioned tent were some of Donald Trump’s wealthiest supporters, including the billionaire hedge-fund financier Bill Ackman, who sat next to the former president, and Omeed Malik, the president of another fund, 1789 Capital. Some guests hoped Mr. Trump would signal that he was recalibrating after a series of damaging mistakes. He did not. According to two people present, Mr. Trump himself also brought up his remark, made two days earlier at a gathering of the National Association of Black Journalists, in which he had questioned Vice President Kamala Harris’s racial identity.

Leavitt later clarified, "As President Trump said numerous times during the press conference, the questions being asked were difficult to hear. His position on mifepristone remains the same — the Supreme Court unanimously decided on the issue and the matter is settled." Also at Thursday's press conference, Trump was also asked how he planned to vote in Florida’s ballot initiative this fall to expand abortion access. In June, the Supreme Court ruled that the plaintiffs did not have standing to win the case, preserving access nationwide to abortion pills. At the time, RNC spokeswoman Danielle Alvarez said in a statement: "The Supreme Court has unanimously decided 9-0.

The Federal Reserve is gearing up to cut interest rates as soon as next month, which could bring relief to people with mortgages, credit cards and car loans. Certificates of deposit — fixed-rate bank accounts with term limits — are a go-to when interest rates are high. With interest rates coming down, the idea is just pay and save as much as you can right now. There’s no bad time to do that, but when the central bank lowers interest rates, it can be even more valuable. “It’s tempting to say, ‘Well, when interest rates go down, stocks are going to do well, because people are switching from low-return to higher-return assets,’” she said.

Peggy Flanagan of Minnesota would presumably become the first Native American woman to lead a state. But the state Constitution allows Flanagan to assume the governorship if Walz, for whatever reason, vacates office. The Native vote helped Joe Biden secure a win against Trump in the state in 2020. "Donald Trump made a career demonstrating and celebrating behavior that perpetuates violence against Native women and girls," she said at the time. "We finally have Native representation in the governor's office and Native women in the Legislature."

With only days to consider a range of contenders, Ms. Harris and her team were inundated with unsolicited advice — much of it public — about whom she should pick. Andy Beshear of Kentucky, who has also been vetted by the Harris team, appeared at a Harris campaign fund-raiser in Chicago. Mr. Biden was at home in Wilmington, Del., over the weekend while Ms. Harris interviewed prospective running mates in Washington. A White House spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment about whether he had spoken to Ms. Harris as she finished her deliberations. Once she chooses, Ms. Harris will spend much of the next week with her running mate.

Republicans rush to try to define Tim Walz

CNN —Republicans moved quickly Tuesday to try to define Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, whom Vice President Kamala Harris has chosen as her running mate. “She found a 60-year-old White guy who has the same crazy ideas she does,” one of the advisers said. But he’s since fallen out of favor with the gun lobby over his support for gun safety actions as governor. Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst echoed that message, calling Walz “Bernie Sanders’ choice for VP.”

The plot revealed by US prosecutors on Tuesday adds to a growing list of detailed Iranian plans to allegedly kill Trump, according to national security officials. Although Merchant is a Pakistani national, prosecutors say he spent time in Iran and has family there. Once in the United States, Merchant allegedly contacted someone who he believed would assist him in the murder-for-hire plot. Merchant allegedly then told the confidential human source that the work was not a one-time opportunity and made a “finger gun” motion with his hand. Merchant planned to leave the country before the assassination, prosecutors say, but was arrested before he could go.

When Vice President Kamala Harris gathered some of her closest advisers in the dining room of the Naval Observatory on Saturday, they had more choices than time. The advisers were there to present their findings on a list that still technically ran six deep to Ms. Harris, who had less than 72 hours to sift through it to make her final decision. One by one, the circle of her most trusted confidants ran through the pros and cons of each possible No. Tim Walz of Minnesota, Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona and Gov. And the upshot, Ms. Harris was told, was this: She could win the White House with any of the three finalists by her side.

Ms. Harris has conducted a fast search for a running mate and brought on a slate of new advisers to her campaign. By Friday afternoon, Ms. Harris — the only candidate on the ballot — had clinched a majority of the delegates she needed for the nomination. Ms. Harris first ran for president in 2019, while in her third year as a senator from California. Now Ms. Harris is setting out to prove she can lead a party desperate to block Mr. Trump’s attempt to return to office. On Tuesday, Ms. Harris is expected to announce her running mate before holding a joint campaign rally in Philadelphia and then touring the battleground states.

Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to reveal her running mate on Tuesday morning, a decision that will end a 16-day sprint to vet, interview and choose a person who could potentially become the future leader of the Democratic Party. Ms. Harris’s announcement, coupled with a major rally she plans to hold with her running mate on Tuesday evening in Philadelphia, will also cap a frenzied period that had, in recent days, exposed some of the party’s internal fissures on matters ranging from labor rights to Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. With only days to consider a range of contenders, Ms. Harris and her team were inundated with unsolicited advice — much of it public — about whom she should pick. In the final hours, her allies, fellow Democrats, progressive activists and even some of the potential nominees themselves tried to find ways to sway her decision. At the center of the maelstrom is Ms. Harris, who has fielded input from a small group of formal and informal advisers, including former President Barack Obama, whom she has consulted on policy, personnel decisions and her vice-presidential pick during her whirlwind ascent to the Democratic presidential nomination, according to a person familiar with their conversations.

Here's Jim Cramer's market sell-off playbook

watch nowCNBC's Jim Cramer shared his playbook for the brutal global market sell-off on Monday. Identify what's actually wrongAlthough the global sell-off hit U.S. markets hard, "the epicenter of the damage" was Japan, Cramer said. The sell-off started when Japan's stock market posted its worst drop since the stock market crash of 1987 known as Black Monday. The sell-off is sparked by money managers who think the Federal Reserve should have cut rates last week. Investors can also take advantage of the decline in interest rates and buy stocks that yield more than 4%, Cramer said.

CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris is making the biggest decision of her two-week-old presidential campaign as she chooses a running mate and prepares to introduce the new Democratic ticket to voters in several key battleground states this week. The whirlwind vice presidential search entered its final hours Sunday after Harris had interviewed three final contenders — Gov. It was four years ago this week that Biden announced his decision to choose Harris as his running mate. Brian Kemp, who revealed last month that he did not support Trump in the state’s GOP primary. Harris’ campaign has said she will attend the ABC News event, and taunted the former president for backing out of that event.

Progressive groups have trained their criticisms on Mr. Shapiro and Mr. Kelly, who they accuse of being too conservative on key issues. The debate grew heated during a discussion about whether using the phrase “Genocide Josh” to describe Mr. Shapiro, who is an observant Jew, was antisemitic. One of his advisers called the Harris campaign to object to Mr. Shapiro, a development that was first reported by Politico. Manuel Bonder, a spokesman for Mr. Shapiro, declined to comment on the vice-presidential selection process. Mr. Walz and Mr. Beshear are set to appear at dueling, simultaneous fund-raisers to benefit Ms. Harris on Monday evening.

Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, who is on the short list to be Kamala Harris’s running mate, is facing renewed criticism for his handling of a sexual harassment complaint against a longtime top aide. An employee had accused Mr. Vereb of making repeated and graphic sexual overtures and then criticizing her job performance after she refused him. She resigned rather than continue to work for him, her only other option, she said in her written complaint. Mr. Vereb, 57, kept his post for six months after his accuser first alleged misconduct. He resigned only after local reporters obtained a copy of the employee’s complaint, weeks after the settlement had been secretly reached.

Vice President Kamala Harris will meet with top candidates to serve as her vice president on Sunday, closing out her search for a running mate with a test of whether she and her potential new partner click. It was unclear whether other potential candidates — including Gov. Andy Beshear of Kentucky and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg — were also on the schedule, or if they had already met with Ms. Harris. The in-person meeting, described as a “chemistry test,” is a final step in the search, but one that Ms. Harris is expected to put considerable stock in. Aides and associates have said that she often prioritizes personal rapport with her staff and advisers.
