Adtech company Infillion is set to acquire the assets of bankrupt adtech firm MediaMath. US-based adtech company Infillion has emerged as the highest bidder for the assets of MediaMath, the high-profile adtech firm that filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June, according to court filings. Adtech firms are racing to grab more of the retail media business, expected to be worth $130B. E-commerce startup MikMak has acquired the shoppable media and brand analytics arm of rival ChannelAdvisor for an undisclosed amount. With the new employees from ChannelAdvisor, MikMak will have 175 staffers. In buying part of ChannelAdvisor, MikMak inherits analytics that advertisers want to justify increasing ad spend with retailers. As part of the deal, MikMak and ChannelAdvisor will cross-sell their products.

New sustainability-minded startups are calculating the carbon footprint of data-driven advertising. While digital advertising isn't nearly as big a polluter as other industries like manufacturing, big brands are looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint anywhere they can. These firms are taking on challenges like reducing the carbon footprint of production shoots or replacing decades of adtech infrastructure that powers billions of spend across the open web. They promise not only to help marketers produce less greenhouse gases, they also claim to help digital ads load faster, cut down on ad fraud, and help premium publishers increase ad prices. The tech will help publishers sell ads on and off Amazon, according to job postings. The retail giant has 11 job postings for a new team called "PubTech" that will be part of Amazon Ads. The Amazon Ads' team is building products for first-party publishers that have channels on Amazon — like Twitch, FireTV, and Freevee — as well as third-party web publishers, according to the job listings. While Amazon does help publishers sell ads through a unit called Amazon Publisher Services, that unit is not part of Amazon Ads, and those services require publishers work with third-party SSPs. The core of Amazon's $37 billion ad business are search ads, and its ad division has mostly focused on building tools for advertisers.

"Project Phoenix" is seeking to raise at least $10 million in a SAFE financing. Project Phoenix is being operated by team members of Zawadzki's VC fund AperiamVentures. Project Phoenix, registered as Phoenix Project Acquisition Inc., is raising the investment with a "post-money valuation cap" of $20 million — the maximum price at which investors can convert their SAFE investment notes into equity. PE firm Novacap has acquired TV adtech company Cadent. Canadian private equity firm Novacap has acquired the US TV adtech platform Cadent, the pair said Wednesday. With traditional TV viewing long in decline, advertisers have increasingly turned to connected-TV platforms. US broadcast and cable TV ad spending is expected to drop by 8% this year, but will still be significant at $61.3 billion, per Insider Intelligence's forecast. Cadent had previously been owned by another private equity firm, Lee Equity Partners, which acquired the company in 2013.

Ad prices declined in the second quarter as new formats like Reels and Shorts rolled out. After some rough quarters, Google's and Meta's ad businesses are on the rebound , and they're creating so much short-form video ad inventory that the surge in supply is driving ad prices down. "Anytime you've got an influx of newer ad inventory, typically that inventory does come with lower ad pricing," he said. TikTok is building a solution that works like a data clean room called PrivacyGo. PrivacyGo may boost TikTok's pitch to brands as regulations and privacy rules weaken ad targeting. TikTok is developing a new privacy-tech solution for advertisers called PrivacyGo, a company spokesperson confirmed to Insider. Though TikTok is a much smaller ad seller compared to Google, Meta, and Amazon, it has been building solutions to entice advertiser budgets. DoubleVerify, the publicly-listed ad verification company, has entered into an agreement to acquire AI-powered adtech firm Scibids in a cash and stock deal valued at $125 million. The product matches DoubleVerify's media quality and ad performance data with Scibids' AI algorithms to let advertisers improve the performance of their campaigns. Around $66 million of the Scibids purchase price will be paid in cash with the remainder in DoubleVerify common stock.

July 18 (Reuters) - Aleph Group Inc said on Tuesday it had filed to withdraw its IPO plans, citing "public interest and the protection of investors," more than a year after the digital advertising firm submitted paperwork to go public. Emerging markets-focused Aleph, which helps large digital platforms connect with advertisers and customers, counts Meta Platforms (META.O), Spotify Technology (SPOT.N) and Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O)-owned LinkedIn among its customers. Founded in 2005 as IMS Internet Media Services, Aleph was valued at $2 billion in 2021 after private equity firm CVC Capital Partners bought a stake worth $470 million. Now MediaMath's creditors, who are cumulatively owed more than $100 million, are scrambling to figure out their next moves. Inserting ads into video games — like as a billboard in a car-racing game — is increasingly enticing to advertisers hoping to message hard-to-find Gen Zers. Washington CNN —Google’s advertising business should be broken up, European Union officials said Wednesday, alleging that the tech giant’s involvement in multiple parts of the digital advertising supply chain creates “inherent conflicts of interest” that risk harming competition. The formal accusations mark the latest antitrust challenge to Google over its sprawling ad tech business, following a lawsuit by the US Justice Department in January that also called for a breakup of the company. For example, the commission claims, advertisers who used Google’s ad buying tools frequently had their purchases routed to AdX instead of to rival ad exchanges. One proposed solution by the commission would spin off Google’s ad exchange and publisher tools from the ad-buying tools it provides to advertisers. The European Commission, the executive arm of the EU, reached a preliminary conclusion that Google is dominant in the European market for publisher ad servers and for programmatic ad-buying tools for the open web. The commission also said Google has abused this dominant position since at least 2014. "The Commission's preliminary view is therefore that only the mandatory divestment by Google of part of its services would address its competition concerns," EU competition chief Margrethe Vestager said in a statement. "Our preliminary concern is that Google may have used its market position to favour its own intermediation services. If confirmed, Google's practices would be illegal under our competition rules,"Google was not immediately available for comment when contacted by CNBC.
