A new political group with ties to Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida began reserving airtime in Iowa on Monday, a surprising new player in the 2024 Republican primary that has emerged with less than two months until the Iowa caucuses. The reservations — more than $500,000 as of early Monday afternoon — were being made by an entity called Fight Right, according to AdImpact, a media-tracking company. A nonprofit by that name, Fight Right Inc., was registered in Florida last week and a super PAC with the same name was also registered with the Federal Election Commission by a Tallahassee-based treasurer, state and federal records show. The emergence of a new pro-DeSantis group at this stage of the race is unusual, in part because Mr. DeSantis has worked so closely with Never Back Down, his primary super PAC, after transferring $82.5 million to the group earlier this year.

The main super PAC supporting Senator Tim Scott’s presidential campaign abruptly announced to donors in a memo that it was canceling millions of dollars in television ads it had reserved this fall, writing that Donald J. Donald Trump is airing a television ad in Atlanta, and other TV markets, that attacks the Fulton County district attorney who could soon charge the former president with his fourth criminal indictment. A Trump campaign aide told NBC News the one-minute political ad will air in Atlanta, New York and Washington, D.C., as well as nationally. It also names attorneys who’ve already brought charges against Trump, including Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and special counsel Jack Smith. CNN —Ohio voters rejected Tuesday an effort to raise the threshold to amend the state’s constitution ahead of a November referendum on whether to constitutionally guarantee abortion rights there, handing abortion rights advocates a critical victory. The measure was a GOP-led effort targeting an upcoming November referendum in which voters will decide whether to enshrine abortion rights in the state’s constitution. Already, voters in two deep-red states, Kansas and Kentucky, have rejected efforts to limit abortion rights (though abortion is still banned in Kentucky). The Democratic push to enshrine abortion rights in Michigan’s constitution played a key role in the party’s victories there in the 2022 midterm elections. Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., raised $6.1 million for his presidential campaign in the second quarter, a campaign spokesperson said. It marks Scott's first financial report since jumping into the 2024 presidential race with an exploratory committee in early April. The Scott campaign got off to a quick-spending start because it transferred a sizable sum from his Senate account to fund his presidential bid. The campaign spokesperson said Scott had $21 million cash on hand at the end of June, which is down slightly from the nearly $22 million that Scott had in his Senate account at the end of March. Ron DeSantis' campaign announced raising $20 million as he jumped into the race last quarter.

Some experts expect the Florida governor's supporters to make that move around the same time DeSantis announces his White House bid.
